The name is very misleading. The tents are next to a pine plantation. A plantation can never be called a forest. Furthermore, the plantation gets clear cut, and then you look out onto a wasteland. It's not a retreat either, as it's next to a main thoroughfare for big industrial trucks that pass throughout the night. It's also next to a popular picnic spot where people bring massive speakers to party and braai. The tents don't feel safe, as literally anyone can walk up from the main road and cut the fabric to get inside. And it's not even a case of "you get what you pay for" because we stayed at 3 other places during this trip, none of which were over R1000, yet all were levels above this place. The manager is really nice and kind, but the facilities are not. The only reason I can imagine staying here is that you have to be in this exact geographical location for some reason. If that's not the case, go elsewhere.…
Peaceful country retreat surrounded by nature. Able to hear the wind whispering in the trees; able to see the stars clearly at night. Staff members friendly and helpful at all times. An absolute pleasure to stay there. Thanks to one and all who made our stay so memorable.
It is relative central to various towns and scenery. Enjoyed it very much. The facilities are in good and clean conditions. Kick off your shoes and just relax in nature with a variety of birds and other animals.
Hi Our stay at Mac Mac was ok. Though more toilet facilities would have been appreciated and some information to the campers/stayers of the attractions around would be lovely. The nature around is lovely gives the relief and calmness needed from the city life.
Mac Mac Forest Retreat is exactly what you would expect for a budget camping experience. Two things i would change... 1. Cut the grass in the camping areas 2. Clean the bathrooms, a simple pressure hose will remove the dead stuck insects and spider webs from the shower area. Apart from the above, a good time was had at Mac Mac.
