About 20 years ago I spent my very first night in Africa at Böhm's, and it was a fantastic experience.
This year in February I returned for two short stays on the way in and out of Kruger Park, and I did not regret it.
This is a very nice, very genuine place in the green area - wilderness, bananas, pineapples, avocados etc. all around in the area.
Very nice rooms - in separate small chalets, with a wonderful view every single one.
Location is superb, Hazyview and Kruger Park gate only 20-30 Km away.
The three course dinner was very nice. The atmosphere very pleasant. The owner (Renate, who has lived in SA since 1965, German speaking) takes good care of you and helps with whatever you might need.
Highly recommended, and it's at a good distance from Johannesburg, on the way into the wild.

We were so happy that in the lodge, in which we were in 2006 and 2011 already, still remains the same - a beautiful, well-kept subtropical garden, everything lovingly maintained and decorated and top in shot. "Fancy chi chi" you look in vain, but we find that exceedingly charming.
Also our chalet was still exactly as we remembered it - but a good shower was installed in the bathroom. Everything, although just as it was a few years ago, is very well maintained, works perfectly and is "just right" for our taste.
Renate Böhm is a wonderful hostess, helped us to rebook the helicopter flight and takes care of the guests in a nice and unobtrusive way. Her tips should definitely be followed. In the evening there is a very good menu for a more than fair price, which you enjoy in the dining room with a fireplace.

The hostess was very friendly and lovely. The guesthouse is clean and comfortable. There is a really big area and a nice garden with a big pool. In the evening we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and a good meal. We were happy to stay there for a night.

Böhms Zeederberg Country House Bed & Breakfast on the R536 road between Hazyview & Sabie, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

This small German owner run Guest House situated between Hazyview and Sabie near the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga so we thought an idea base to explore Kruger and the other scenic routes in the area. While the rooms and the gardens are well kept, and the views spectacular, the owners seem to go out of their way to rip off customers at every given opportunity.

Unlike many other establishments (and my partner and I are well travelled, especially in Southern Africa) on arrival, don’t expect to be welcomed with a complimentary coffee or fruit juice, as you will have to pay for the refreshment.

The owners also claim the natural water supply is not safe to drink and you will need to buy bottled water. However, on checking and speaking to a number of local residents in the area, they told us there is nothing wrong with the tap water. So who is telling the truth?

When it comes to food, the Buffet breakfast selection is fine with a choice of either a continental breakfast or an “English breakfast” with this offering varying each day.

However, do not ever fall for their invitation to have dinner at this establishment. Once again, like the price of any liquid refreshments - this is a rip off. The set menu each night consists of a paltry starter, a cheap and nasty main meal and a cheap desert for the grand sum of R180 (approx. £13) per head, while they push for you to buy from the over-priced wine list.

We made the mistake of having our first evening meal at this venue. The meal consisted of a salmon trout salad starter, where you battled to find any trout, followed by braised beef in a on top of some spaghetti and spinach, and the desert a spoonful of vanilla ice-cream with a stewed fruit topping.

I was forced to send my beef back. I doubt if our dogs would have even eaten it. It was dry, over cooked and tough. I would have need a chain saw to cut it, and unfortunately, this is not one of the items I carry with me while on holiday.

The owners did offer my partner and I a free meal while we were there in compensation, or the money back for my meal as my partner seldom complains about issues even if she is unhappy at the time. You would be right in thinking, we declined the offer of a free meal. Once bitten twice shy, so we took the money.

For the amount of money it will cost you for this third-rate meal you will be better off visiting one of the many first-rate restaurants in the area, where you will find excellent food, and more importantly at least have a choice of food options.

Another rip off is their laundry service. Rather visit the laundrette in Hazyview about 16km away, where you can get your clothes washed and iron for less than half the price.

I noticed the company website claims the venue was recently awarded a 4-Star Grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, but this couldn't have been for their evening meals or the price of refreshments even though they claim excellent cuisine is on offer by the owners. In addition to this the website claims a sauna and jacuzzi, however neither of these were operable whilst we stayed, and on enquiring about them they seemed to have been out of action for quite some time with no expectation of them being repaired / brought back into service. These facilities were part of the reason why we booked the venue in the first place.

Achtung!

A special message to all German, Dutch, French, and Swiss and by the looks of it any European visitors or tour groups, which the venue seems to attract, please do not be fleeced when staying or visiting this venue. Take your own bottled water, fruit juice and any other liquid refreshment with you, or buy them in the near by towns.

This place is really beautiful located. There are about 10 little guesthoses located around the main building in a beautiful setting. The Böhm-Family has created a lovely place over the last decades.

Our room was very spacy, decorated with African originals like plaids, masks, skins. There were lots of candles and matches, so we had a very romantic setting. Every guesthouse has its own little terrace with a view to the mountains.

The 3-course dinner was delicious and we very much enjoyed sitting at the fireplace in the main building sipping a good Southafrican Cabernet.

To Start, Please Note that the Owner or Management have No idea that I am about to Post this Review and that I have not in anyway been treated favors or discounts to give them a great review. They have not even asked Me to make a review for them. We booked in as ordinary clients.

Also take Note!! You should push aside what you have read from some reviews stated and have a good look and reed on what i am about to say.

I cannot believe some of their Non 5 Star reviews seen on this page.
Nor can I believe that they have such few reviews!

As a Tour Operator staying at several different accommodations on a weekly basis, I value the importance of an accurate review and feel the importance of praising a well deserved establishment when i have come across one.

I and my clients stayed at Bohm's Zeederberg Country House in January.
This was my first visit to Bohm's Zeerderberg and we were (Sadly) only booked in for 1 night there.

I was not expecting this Country House to be the Highlight Accommodation Location of our entire 6 Night Kruger and Panorama Route adventure. Brilliant Brilliant!!

Zeerderberg House was about 20min drive from Sabie, an ideal location if travelling to Panorama Route or Kruger. It would also be ideal to base Yourself there for a couple of days and travel out to all attractions from there.

Attractions nearby, Go see Mac Mac Falls, Lone Creek Falls, Lisban Falls, Pinnacle Rock, God's Window, Lourke Luck Potholes, Sabie Town, Pilgrems Rest and Kruger National Park just to name a few while being based at Zeerderberg House.

The Accommodation:

Rustic Main House!! Is Correct!
But no reason to give them anything less than 5 stars for that. It is a Stunning Rustic House!! You could easily Picture it being a Popular Heritage House in the the Late district of England. Some Modern Homes Pay Double the amount of money to make their home look more rustic and Mid evil such as the spectacular House! It Has Beautiful Stone and Brick work, Huge Wooden Large doors and window frames. Beautiful Lounge, Massive Fire Place, Great Patio, Very well decoded and a great warm home feeling.

Rooms: All Very Private and separate from the main House.
I find it hard to believe on what has been said on other reviews. Stunning Bedrooms, Very Luxurious with King-size Beds both in My rooms as well as clients. The Linen was Top Notch. The Bathrooms very stunning. They have Heating and Coolants. And I think they have as Many as 10 Unit's that can sleep over 20 People.

The Views: Wow Wow Wow, The Rooms have a Stunning view overlooking the Forrest and Mountain Hill. It was really like a little Paradise.

The Gardens and Property:
Again I am in disbelief in what i have read from some other reviews. The Gardens were stunning!! Flowers everywhere!! This Beautiful Green Moss growing over all the walls makes it look so beautiful. a Stunning Chapel in the Middle of the very Large Gardens perfect for that romantic wedding, a very Large well cleaned Pool with a great view and shade cover, the gardens also had stunning large trees everywhere.

The Food:
5 Stars!! 3 Source Meal and We all loved all of it!! Very well Cooked, fantastic presentation, and really Tasty. You could imagine sitting at a famous restaurant the quality was that good.

The Staff and Service:
Brilliant Brilliant! So super friendly staff, The Manager (a great Guy) spend a good amount of time telling us the fascinating History of this very Old Historical looking House and the History of the Interesting Lady Owner. He was very friendly and informative. The Grounds Staff are very friendly and all greet you when they walk past. The waiters at Dinner and Breakfast were Fantastic and served with great Smiles and were very well presented.

Location:
Perfect, Near Sabie and Kruger. Hidden down a Beautiful Valley with not a Neighboring House to be seen.

This Place does not deserve some of the reviews it has received before!
It is a Real Gem and was our Highlight of our Tour Trip!

My Only regrets was that we were only booked to stay there for 1 night and next time would def book for more nights.

The other regret is that I did not take Pictures of this great establishment. (With a long day of attractions stops we arrived there very tired late and left early for our next day's planed attractions in the morning not really having the time to take pictures apart from a refreshing morning walk around the property)

Well Done Bohm's Zeederberg!! Well Deserved review and a New Tour Operator that would be back for Future travels!!

I Highly Highly recommend staying here if passing nearby to the Kruger or Panorama Route!!

Many Thanks again Staff

During our private tour with a guide of the area, we stayed here one night. We had excellent service as our guide is a regular.
Our room, No. 5, was spacious and nicely decorated. However we did struggle to unlock the second (metal) door as there was no outside light (we arrived late).
Included in the room was a fridge, kettle, coffee plunger, but only instant coffee, powdered milk and tea bags. In the bathroom, soap is provided but no shampoo etc. A large bottle of water was provided as it was recommended not to drink the tap water.
The only wifi is in the main building and has to be bought (39 rand).
We had a nice three course meal and tried some of the recommended wine (R33 & 37). They were very full glasses so we thought good value. Vegetarian meals are catered for on request. Breakfast was a buffet including cereal, fruit, yoghurt, muffins, scones, corn fritters, scrambled eggs, bacon and more.
The grounds are lovely and it was very peaceful. We found the staff generally very friendly.
I would stay again.

I stayed here with a friend for one night as we were transiting out of Kruger area. While the grounds of the property are lovely, the room and common areas are quite dated. Our room had an old, moldy/musty smell that was a bit off-putting. Also the door locks were so dated and confusing, that we had a get a tutorial from the staff just to exit our room. In addition, there was no wifi in the room.

The general outdated feeling continues into the hotel lobby and the restaurant areas, where elevator music is piped over a speaker system. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was average.

Overall, our stay was not terrible, but I would not classify this property as a four star inn/hotel by any stretch. With some overdue updates, this property could be much better.

We stayed here two nights while enjoying a tour of the Blyde Canyon. We found Bohms to be quite old and in need of some upgrading. The room was small and very dated. The outdoor furniture is all rod iron, uncomfortable and older. Beautiful views of the countryside and grounds are well kept but very uncomfortable to sit on deck off rooms to enjoy view. Thomas was very helpful in answering any of our questions but we found his wife to be very unfriendly and unwelcoming. She runs the wine store next door and hardly even spoke to us when we went in there also! You pay extra for wifi and they ask you to use it very little which was fine. Breakfast was good, they offered a good selection and made our eggs anyway we asked! We ate two dinners there and they were quite good! Monkeys are on property, cute to see!
