Detailed Reviews
Just stayed at Axim beach resort. After reading previous reviews decided to just reserve 2 nights as recent reviews weren’t very positive.
Location and grounds are stunning. A beautiful sandy beach although the ocean is too rough to swim in. The resort’s swimming pool although not big, was clean and it is situated close to the beach. I loved the pool area and the fact that someone offered me a clean towel and cushion so that I could sit around the pool or on a longer by the beach. Public areas were clean and well cared for. I stayed in 2 different rooms. Both rooms were clean, beds comfortable and clean sheets and towels were provided. The budget room had a fan and the more expensive chalet had AC which worked perfectly. In the budget room the water pressure wasn’t very strong but was perfect in the more expensive chalet. Some of the rooms have beautiful views and you can see and hear the sea crashing on the rocks. Managed to get the TV working but programmes were very limited. The more expensive chalet had a mini fridge. WiFi was available only in the reception. Staff were friendly and helpful and Philip arranged a taxi for us to visit local sights. Enjoyed a decent massage at the spa. Breakfast is included in the room rates and I found it adequate. Fresh juice, cereal, instant coffee and a choice of eggs/ pancakes and bread. The most negative thing for me about this resort was the poor menu offered for lunch and dinner. No fresh fish, no deserts and the pizza was very spicy even though I requested no spice. Most dishes were chicken based and not very appealing for foreign tourists. If the resort could improve the menu and cuisine then it would be a great place to stay at. I would be happy to return in the future but I do hope that the food improves.

Eric, the general manager was very helpful and so was Bernard the Marketing Manager.
We loved the 3 days spent there, we took 4 other couples to the region for a tour and this was our place for accommodation.
One thing i liked about them was their willingness and eagerness to attend to the challenges we had.
They should however work on perhaps getting more helping hands in the kitchen during peak seasons so guest can get their food faster.

A very exceptional Coastal Beach experience fully of breezy environment, sunshine and restful night experience. Far to reach from Accra but close to pure relaxation after busy work schedules. I love the sunny scenery and long beach shoreline for social events.

I liked it . Beautiful beach. Serene environment. Just went to the beach so I cannot comment on their rooms. Excellent food as well and I like their pool although some got confused and thought it was dirty so maybe a little education about their pool would be helpful for those not used to such pool colour . Overall experience was great as there have some activities one can do like volley ball and some gliding thing .

On 21/8/2011, at 12 noon my son Kunal Moorthy was standing in knee deep water when he and his friend were swept away.My son drowned while the friend made it.I have spoken and told the Manager Charles to amend the web stating this Hotel is safe for swimming, including for children. I also asked about accident insurance, however, the Hotel have not replied to my request to let me know how they intend to compensate for my high flying son who at 26 was a Cambridge economics graduate & a CA with PWC & was a restructuring Manager with them. He was on deputation to Vodafone, Ghana & was due to take up a 3 year assignment with PWC, Dubai restructuring team.

My friend and I travelled to Axim Beach Resort a few weeks ago. This trip was one of the worst I have ever experienced in Ghana, or elsewhere for that matter. I have been living in Accra for four years, with extensive travel around the country, and I have never had such poor, disrespectful and hurtful customer service, as I had at Axim Beach Hotel.
From a former review, we read that people often go to the neighbouring (about 30 minute drive away) hotel, Lou Moon, for dinner. We thought this was a great idea. We arranged with Axim to get a taxi for us, which they agreed. When we arrived at Lou Moon, we exchanged numbers with the driver, so that when we were finished, he could come back and pick us up.
After a lovely dinner, we called the driver, whose phone was off. Confused, we called Axim Hotel, to ask what we should do. The night receptionist, said he would call some other numbers and call us back. He never called, so we called him. He proceeded to tell us that no one was answering. He had no other options for us, and could care less that it was 11pm, and we were two foreign women essentially stranded. After many phone calls back to this receptionist, pleading with him to find us a way back, the evening ended with us having to spend 200 euros on a room for the night at Lou Moon.
Beyond tired and angry (and 200 euros wasted!), we finally made our way back to Axim Hotel the next morning. As we approached the daytime receptionist, we explained the whole story. At least he was apologetic, and understood our anger and disappointment. At the end of our conversations, we exclaimed 'i assume we will not be paying the 30 cedis rate for last night?'. This promoted him to call over the owner - Jonas.
We reexplained the whole story to Jonas, concluding that because we had to spend 200 euros for a night accommodation elsewhere (because they had left us stranded), we were not prepared to pay the 30 Cedis for the room we had at Axim.
Jonas could not care less. He put all the blame on us, laughed in our faces and while pointing his finger at us, explained that he had travelled around the world, and is shocked that we think we could not pay for the previous nights room rate.
To me, this is all about the principle. The fact that he showed such disrespect to his customers, to turn the whole situation around to make it seem like it was our fault, and on top of it to laugh in our faces, is beyond unacceptable.
We were happy to pay for the other nights we spent there, along with our meals and drinks etc. All we were asking for was to deduct 30 cedis (less than 15USD) because of the principle. The fact that they could not do that is shocking, and I hope that people will take this into consideration when choosing where to stay near Takoradi.
I have never experienced this kind of disrespect from hotel staff - let alone from the owner!

the staff were great and the room was ok with a great view of the ocean.
Contrary to the advertisement, the room had no amenities and no television. It literally wasn't there. Be prepared to live out of your luggage, there is no place for your clothes or toiletries. Reminds me of my time in the Army. Doable but so is five-man tent. Not acceptable for the amount spent on this place
The Wifi is only available in the reception hut. There is none in the rest of the Resort as set out.
The so-called solar heater for the showers simply doesn't work. The water never became better than cold/tepid with no pressure. Use the plastic buckets.
Food services were well below the norm for African standards. Breakfast was barely warm and consistently the same, In my two years in Ghana this was simply the worst. Bring you own snacks
The fridge worked
We were called down to the dining facillity for supper at 630pm by the front desk. When we arrived at 645, we were told that the food was "all finished". A half hearted attempt was made to bring us some food at 830 but we were told what we could eat. Pass.
On a second occasion, we ordered a late lunch of Jollof rice and french fries. The Jollof rice was "all finished" (in Ghana?). Finally lunch arrived two hours later...cold.
Find another place, it ain't worth the hassle.

Further to my friends note above, my friend died in the sea at the Axim Beach Resort beach just 3 months ago. Please be careful at this beach. I would really not recommend you swim in the sea here or if you do you make yourselves fully aware of the dangers. My friend was only in water up to his waist but the strength of a few waves was enough to sweep him of his feet and then ultimately for him to drown.
The Axim Beach Hotel says on their website that "The huge hotel area and safe swimming beach is ideal for children and pets as well." We have spoken to the hotel about this and also asked that they put up signs to warn people but they do not want to listen. Please do not let your children go in the sea here, it is very dangerous and is totally unsuitable for children!
Although the hotel was fairly pleasant to stay at their attitude to safety means that I really could not recommend it. Please beware of the danger of the sea here.

Hello, Jonas
For all of you that may not know Jonas is the owner of Axim Beach Hotel. He is hard to miss. He is in the resturant daily to host the guests and he can do it in many languages. It is not a place in the Western Region to be missed. He has been my host since 2005. I travel to Axim for several months each year for a 2-3 month stay and priviledged to call Axim Beach my home in West Africa. He even nursed me through malaria dreams.
