#3 of 9 hotels in Spello
La Bastiglia restaurant hotel in Spello is mentioned among the most important gastronomic and hotel guides (one star in the Michelin Guide). It is located at the foot of Subasio Mountain, the enchanted mount of San Francis. Here love and wisdom have transformed, like magic, an ancient mill into the Hotel Restaurant la Bastiglia, an unforgettable place, were customers are welcomed as friends, and may find modern comforts and ancient atmospheres. There are 33 rooms divided into three categories, looking at the Umbrian landscape, characterized by the cypress tree green-black colour and the olive trees green-grey colour. The restaurant, expresses the typical Umbrian dishes with ancient recipes and modern creations using highly selected foods; this is the meeting-place of international customers. Inside la Bastiglia hotel restaurant there are some important collection of ceramics, antique furniture and important paintings from the private collection of Schifano and Norberto.

Let me start by saying what a spectacular view this location has...unfortunately the service was not so good. We attended at midday, purely for a coffee and then decided to stay for a bite to eat. Initially it took 5 mins just to find someone to serve us coffee, which arrived cold. We then requested ‘melon and ham’ to which we were told would be a10 minute wait. 1 hour later this very simple plate arrived, the ham was great, the melon was very un ripe. After waiting so long, we then had go and find someone to pay, this appeared to be a huge inconvenience to the staff. When we mentioned that it took a long time to arrive, the receptionist brusquely stated that we had a ‘nice wait’, that we were lucky as the kitchen shouldn’t have been open (contrary to the what the waiter said) before promptly throwing our change down on the side and resuming reading her magazine. Very strange customer service for a 4 star hotel.... Very disappointing, luckily the view was beautiful.

We stopped at La Bastiglia on a walking tour of Italy in May, 2019. Super place! the staff were spectacular. We were having one piece of luggage transported from hotel to hotel and, so some reason, the transport group missed this day so no luggage. But never fear, the staff of La Bastiglia were on the job and the luggage was found and delivered. Super view from the room, and the dinner that night was the best of the whole month. We ended with drinks in front of the fireplace.

Fleeing a miserable time in Marche, we stumbled upon this beautiful place--the junior suite, Arianna. With its panoramic view of the Umbrian countryside, the suite also has a private elevator, jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace, along with a patio. Perhaps because it was before the season, the cost was remarkably reasonable. The staff is attentive and helpful. The restaurant serves creative Umbrian fair. If you go to Umbria, don't skip this hotel or Spello-both may take an effort to get there and are so worth it.

This hotel is located high on a hill overlooking gorgeous vistas. There are rooms in the hotel that enjoy this view and others that don't at all. The furnishings are tired, but the beds are clean and comfortable. From hearing from other hotel guests, many showers leaked various amount. Our stay was "fine". We did not have a room with any view. Would I go back to this hotel? ONLY if I could be guaranteed one of the 4 star rooms. Other than that, I would give it a pass.

Such a magnificent place in the heart of Umbria. The hotel is very authentic and charming. The accommodation was very good and the staff was so kind. The most magnificent thing was the view and the Italian spirit of the place. Definitely a must visit for the Italian spirit seekers!
