As two married couples, we were guests in the family cottage at Seaforth Farm in February 2024. The location not far from the motorway entrance suited us. We really enjoyed it and always felt absolutely safe. Brad and Gill are excellent hosts. Gill gave us great tips for excursions and dinner. Breakfast was always a highlight. So every day starts very pleasantly.

We originally booked a villa in the Zimbali Golf Estate. This was canceled at short notice due to vandalism. So it was a happy coincidence that we came to Brad and Gill. Unlike on Zimbali, our cottage was newly renovated and the bathrooms were brand new. And in the end we paid a lot less

We had a wonderful stay at Seaforth Farm. Trevor and Sharneen were amazing hosts. Trevors wood art is very impressive and Sharneens paintings exquisite esp the paradise flycatcher above our bed! Kids loved the pool even in the rain! Was an amazing stop over where the kids could run free. Lovely breakfast on the deck.

The Thompson's are so friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. Our family had such a wonderful time at Seaforth Farm. It's in a lovely leafy location, close to the beach and restaurants. The breakfasts on the deck were a wonderful start to each day offering a fantastic view. Thank you both for making our stay so enjoyable, we hope to return in the near future.

B&B’s in South Africa are generally of a good standard. Seaforth Farm is no exception, although I would not rate it among the best. To my mind ‘run- of-the-mill’ would be an apt description.
Seaforth Farm is no longer a farm in the real sense, although the owner (a retired butcher) keeps Nguni cows, a typical Zulu breed with uniquely patterned skins. The owner is also an enthusiastic beekeeper, makes his own beehives, and produces various types of honey. He is also an amateur furniture maker. His chunky creations can be found all over the place. How he has time to run a B&B is a mystery. But he does it well, ably assisted by his wife.
The owner is a very enthusiastic and helpful person. A little overbearing, some might say. But we thought it a nice touch that he had already switched on the air-conditioning when we arrived after a long trip on hot day.
The owner’s forefathers came from the Hebrides, a group of rugged and remote islands in the north Atlantic. Maybe the reason that he is so talkative is that he wants to make up for his undoubtedly taciturn ancestors.
There is a fairly large swimming on the premises. And although I am a dog lover, I am not particularly fond of sharing a pool with a large resident Alsatian.
The rooms and en suite bathrooms are adequate in typical flowery English style with plenty of knick-knacks and personal care items. Some would call it quaint; others might call it overdone, depending on your personal taste.
The double beds are perfect for a honeymoon couple, but a little on the small side for people celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Weather permitting the owners serve a good English breakfast on an open-air veranda. It is also possible to have an Indian curry meal at the B&B whipped up by the owner’s English wife.
But since the quiet and peaceful Seaforth Farm lies in a tourist area close to the beach, there is a choice of restaurants nearby. Durban lies within easy striking distance.
Birders might want to wander down to the gully below the house where there is a pond which offers pleasant feathered sightings.

Super place to stay. Trevor Thomson and his wife who is an artist make your stay really special. Such a lovely couple.
Lovely views and very close to Thomson Bay(same name as Trevors ) where it is very safe especially for children. In fact everything about Seaforth Farm is first class.

Seaforth Farm offers very comfortable and distinctively furnished rooms set in peaceful gardens between the N2 and the beaches of Salt Rock.

Delicious and generous breakfasts are served on a deck overlooking green pastures.

Hosts Trevor and Sharneen are as colourful as their home, and their stories and helpful advice entertaining and invaluable.

Close to King Shaka Airport (DUR), and en-route to Hluhluwe and isiMangaliso (St Lucia)

Highly recommended..

The N3 highway has brought some of the beautiful rural and coastal areas of KwaZulu Natal within easy reach of the City of Durban and the La Mercy airport. Ballito is one such area, semi rural farms combined with modern day city dwellings and the nearby warm seas of the Indian Ocean. Driving time from the airport is about 10-15 minutes and 30-40 minutes from Durban. You will need a car to get to Seaforth Farm and to get around to the beach and to the other attractions of Durban. The farm is within minutes of the Ballito turn off on the N3 north. Set atop a hill, this old farmstead home with huge individually decorated rooms has large gardens that roll down the hill to a dam, the latter apparently the first ever built in the area. The property has a view of the beach in the distance which can be viewed from one of the garden benches or the breakfast deck. The atmosphere makes for a relaxing stay which is much enhanced by the personal involvement of the owners of this property. I chose to stay at Seaforth as I had heard about the abundant birdlife that one can view on the property and the dam. I did see a reasonable number of birds and there is certainly potentila to increase the numbers and the experience. Great breakfast. Other meals will have to be sourced in the nearby area. There is a shopping mall close by.

Very belatedly (I came across an old email that gave me the address), my wife, grown daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful stay and this delightful farm location back in 2012 (not 2016 as indicated below). Both Trevor and his wife were marvelous hosts, and Trevor gave us wonderful advice about wilderness areas to visit on our first night here in South Africa. Our breakfasts were beautiful and delicious. We returned after spending some extraordinary time in the Hluhluwe-Imfolosi park and near St. Lucia. A delightful visit.

This was our third visit to Seaforth and as always Trevor and Sharneen were wonderful hosts. The rooms are full of charm and the garden has so many different plants, shrubs and birds, and the swimming pool one of the best in South Africa. The breakfasts are superb and the flowers arranged on the buffet table with all manner of cereals, fruit many fresh from the garden, and homemade jams and honey from Trevor's bees, cannot be described it has to be experienced to be believed. The cooked breakfast always has a different twist and is accompanied by choice of teas and wonderful filter coffee. Trevor and Sharneen have tales to tell of their adventures in the bush and are extremely knowledgeable on many subjects African. There are numerous restaurants for evening meals a short drive away and the warm Indian Ocean and beaches very close. Thank you for a lovely stay and we will be back again.
