So we decided on very short notice to celebrate our wedding anniversary somewhere out in the country and Internet gives us the De Hoop Collection. Contact them (Natalie) and request a special deal as it just was Black Friday. This is where service starts ..... imo .... she contacts me back on a Sunday with prices with an awesome discount as a result of Black Friday or Covid... who cares, the offer was fantastic for the quality the De Hoop Collection is popular for. We book one of the Opstal Vlei Cottages self catering and off we go. Arrive at the De Hoop Collection and there they do it again... reception says they upgraded us to a better positioned Opstal Vlei Cottage, and we should like it. Offers a bit more privacy and great view of the Vlei. Our surprise when we open the door, fresh, clean, inviting, great rooms, and COLD Champagne ... or is that Sparkling wine! Wow, we like this place - they really showed that they care and made us feel at home. We drive around, braai the first evening , go for long walks around the Nature reserve , see the bokkies (buck), Zebra, ostrich, Eland and stacks of birdlife, amazing flora and fauna etc. Variety of routes to explore, walk and if you're inclined, cycle all over the nature reserve. Second evening we had booked for Dinner, arrive at the Figtree restaurant and lo and behold they do it again.... the lady takes us into what looks like a Silo on the outside and is in fact the Silo Cellar which holds the private reserve of the proprietor and she explains to us that as they have a company event in the main restaurant, they thought we would enjoy the privacy of the Silo Cellar, if this suited us. I think she could see the amazement on our faces and that we were really up to this really considerate offer. What an experience, the food was excellent, the Proprietor, William S, came to see if we were all satisfied and everything was up to expectation, enquiring about our anniversary, the service was friendly, and off course, another bottle of champagne to kickstart our celebration. I had to tell my wife that I was astounded by all of this as I could not have arranged this ... which she thought I did. Thank you to the De Hoop Collection team for astounding our socks of and making our day a memorable one. Despite the dire economic climate, to satisfy guest needs and adapting to market conditions to this extent is just simply stunning and IMO good for business.

We were first time visitors and stayed in self-catering cottages. De Hoop is another gem in South Africa. The accommodation is very comfortable and thoughtfully equipped. There are bike and walking trails. We did the marine walk and had a wonderful experience. The Fig Tree Restaurant was also a treat. We could have spent so much longer there!

Wonderful experience on the Southern tip of Africa. Birdlovers Dream! Lovely cottages surrounded by antelope, rabbits and ostriches. The rugged coastline and huge sand dunes are fascinating. It is surreal, almost seems like another planet! Great for hiking, bird watching and mountain biking.

The De Hoop experience, based on my previous visit, is a wonderful one! It’s such a singular landscape with the dunes in the middle distance, the Vlei, the bontebok (with babies), ostriches, mountain zebra and a spectacular herd of eland (never seen so many together before). And the bird life - a true delight! We stayed in the Vlei cottages - really lovely! Our UK friends who have travelled the world were blown away! Fresh chocolate cake and coffee under the umbrellas outside the restaurant was a good indicator of a delicious supper there later with excellent service. Top notch all round - highly recommended.

We spent 4 wonderful days at De Hoop Collection mid October 2020,on a fully exclusive package. We stayed at Dassie Cottage which was close to the restaurant and stunning views of the vlei. Top class meals and service at the restaurant. Our package included 2 complimentary guided events, both were lead by super friendly guides. Our marine walk at low tide was not to be because of the weather, but we were given the safari drive which was also fun. We saw lots of Bontebok, Eland, Zebra and Ostriches roaming around the park during all times of the day. The vlei had an abundance of bird life and because of the low rainfall, the vlei was dotted with gorgeous flamingos. Dassie Cottage was so comfortable and cosy with the lovely couch and cosy fireplace. Koppie Alleen is a must visit, the beautiful white dunes and rock pools are stunning. Such a relaxing time. A travel tip on roads, the Bredasdorp route was terrible with roadworks going on. If you can, rather travel in via Swellendam.
