We stayed one night here as part of a road trip around the Eastern and Western Cape. To reach De Hoop you need to go down some long dirt roads, and at the end is this wonderful oasis, with the De Hoop Collection accommodation placed around the vlei. We stayed in the Otter Suites which were next to the vlei, surrounded by the bird song and with elands, ostriches and more wondering around amongst the huts. The suites were very well furnished with high quality linen, soaps, etc and everything was impeccably clean and tidy. Our rates included a massive three course, delicious dinner at the restaurant as well as a generous breakfast - it's a great place to hang out, watch the sunset with a G&T or have a glass of red next to the cosy fire in winter. Take some time to also head down to the unspoiled, pristine beach at Koppie Aleen and spend some time poking around the rock pools at low tide. Also look out for Delfrenso (spelling) who is a local manager and guide and who is wealth of information and wonderful tales about the local geography, history and nature.

We were at De Hoop for our 5th visit since 2013, and loved it once again. We've stayed in everything from the cute rondawels next to the vlei, to a self-catering cottage, to an otter suite, to a Cloete Suite, and this year in the lovely Dassie suite (with the best position looking out over the vlei). We were there in December for 4 nights just after Christmas, and enjoyed it once again. We had tough mountain bike rides each day, did the marine walk one morning (lovely), rode to the beach and walked on it briefly, and did the vulture tour one day. It was too bad there was not enough water in the vlei this time for a boat cruise, as this was a real highlight on previous visits. We also had the Dec 28 lockdown re-imposed which meant the beaches were closed (after our first day - a bit heart-breaking) and the restaurant had to close by 8pm, with no alcohol served (luckily we had wine brought from home before the lockdown, to enjoy in our room). The vlei and the incredible flamingoes (fewer pelicans this year) and other wildlife were gorgeous, as usual. And the ostriches with their many fuzzy babies were all over the place. The restaurant was fantastic as usual, with really wonderful meals and service, and a delicious carrot birthday cake for my husband. The staff (as always) were incredibly friendly and helpful, and our suite was comfortable and well equipped. We will be back again soon! Thank you

Highly recommended! De Hoop made the most wonderful and magical wedding happened for us. Their hospitality and the beautiful setting was the highlight of our wedding. With Covid-19 complications, the De Hoop team went above and beyond to problem solve, ensure compliance and make our day very special. The variety in scenery, landscape and animals make for an amazing spot. Genuinely, you have to visit to experience it yourself! We stayed with some immediate family for a few days and the visit itself was very enjoyable. A very unique gem which I'm looking forward to visit again.

We spent a long weekend at De Hoop Collection Nature Reserve (Vlei). We were six, including two 10 year olds. We loved every second of our stay. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable (thank you Pete). Staying in this cottage, in the middle of a bird sanctuary really felt like going back in time. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and the views are spectacular. Highly recommend.

We stayed in the Melkkamer Manor House, what a lovely beautiful old homestead, well equiped with enough crockery and cutlery. Full service daily. Lovely walking trails and enough activities to entertain everybody in the group.
