some things are missing. With various power interruptions a communal coffee serving area could be established to have some coffee and tea at night / morning. No bottled room. in room. No wine list. It seems for such a nice place these small things would make big difference.
If you need a place in the bush for a wedding for around 60 guests, Lapeng is the place. There is accommodation available for all your guests so no one needs to travel late at night after the function. Unfortunately the road from Steelpoort is very bad, so I would recommend travelling via Lydenburg, which is a beautiful scenic road. We stayed the whole weekend and Lapeng supplied all meals. The staff were very friendly, helpful and available. The rooms are well equipped and clean. There is a beautiful chapel for the formal ceremony and a lovely function hall. The food was great and on time, as was asked for.
Staff not trained to service customers at the bar as well as the restaurant Terrible road to get there. No pre-warning when booking was done. No water in the room. Fairly expensive for what we got Food was served cold during dinner Breakfast - only got some of the selected food
Value for money - Poor Quality of food - Average Service - Average Willingness of staff - Above average, but require training Condition of road to Lodge - Terrible, but not your fault. But warn your guests
Good day I had a lovely stay but the only negative I can mention is the service in your restaurant. First of all I ordered drinks that never arrived, secondly you have to order starter, mains and dessert at the same time. No starter arrived.Waited a long time for my food with other guest also complaining about the service and missing orders. I decided not to go for breakfast as it will take to long. Hope you can fix this. Regards
Good Morning dear reader, I have one problem with Lapeng Lodge and that is time! But allow me to explain. Over the weekend I had the opportunity to isolate myself from the world at Lapeng Lodge. This is not by far the my first lodge in visited of this grading, so my experience this weekend I will compare with previous experiences of similar lodges across the country. It is a beautiful lodge, by day you are enticed by the calmness of the gardens and by night by the sparkles of the lights. Although all the rooms are easy walking from the main building you get this feeling of privacy and isolation. The units is so well isolated that I never heard the people next door, not the door opening, or a window closing, nothing. When you wake up from bed you have a view over the gardens, grass and bush but if you want to sleep late and you closed the shutters, you see nothing, absolute darkness and even more silence. The one thing that I wasn’t happy about was the bath. I did not have the time or opportunity to use it. It is big and comfortable and great enough for two. This also applies to the bathroom. There is enough space for two to get ready for a wedding or a function. On the first night my fellow guests and myself had dinner in the restaurant. We were a big group and the order was diverse. Every plate of food came out perfectly plated and on time. The portions were healthy and made to perfection. For me the most important was that all the food came out at once and warm. Our second day was a relaxing lazy day. I had the opportunity to view parts and facilities of the lodge that weren’t part of my needs so to speak as a big function is not on my the radar. This tour was interesting. Up at the main lodge I found the well planed wedding hall. First the most important the dance floor. And yes a dance floor not a dancing area. The sound and the lights is state of the art. This flows to the hall itself, flanked on side by the bar and the other the serving area. The hall runs out on the patio that overlooks a majestic sparking pool. This flows to chapel that is architecturally designed to blend into the surroundings. Whether you are there for a big wedding or, like me, just want to go and sit there to enjoy inner silence, this facility will accommodate you. The second morning we went for a walk. Other than game that we looked out for, I also saw other spoors, human spoors. It was obvious that it was those of the night guard. This gave me just more piece of mind as at that point I was so relaxed that I did not know where the keys to my unit were. After the walk I enjoyed the pool. The water was great. Just the right temperature and the right ph balance, also big enough to do laps. After all this activity I was so hungry. I cannot tell you about breakfast, you need to experience it. I say two words: "variety and enough" Then there is the matter of staff. I am one of those guests that will always be friendly with staff but I really see them as the downfall of most establishments. They are either to this or to that, either to in your face or to totally absent. Now you may say but the lodge, due to circumstances, were quite and the staff weren’t over exerted. You will be wrong. Boredom is the greatest threat to good service. I have a standard rule. I do not eat at an empty restaurant, no matter how good the reputation or the food, you are guaranteed to receive no service. No matter how great the facilities, the staff of Lapeng Lodge are by far the greatest assist. They are there when you need them. I do not know where they appear from and they are nowhere to be seen when they are not required. No matter the hour, I was always greeted with a smile, and not those fake (my boss told me to smile) kind of smiles. They show a real concern for your well being. I wasn’t there to make new friends and neither were they. What I did really appreciated was that they could read my mind. We never sat on the patio thirsty or with a lot of classes and bottles on the tables, yet, I cannot tell you when they were cleared it. We left the Lapeng Lodge well rested even though we were there for only two nights but sadden because another night or two would have been great. I lie, a week more would have been fantastic. You see time was the only problem!…
The lodge is only about 15minutes outside Steelpoort and the cottages are set in lush green lawns. There is a huge swimming pool and a well equipped gym. The rooms are clean and spacious, the showers are good with large shower heads providing ample hot water. Food is good, beer is ice cold and there is a good selection of wine. Lots of antelope come to feed near the pool at Sun down time
After our booking in Dullstroom was disasterously messed up for our family of 8, that specific hotel directed us to Lapeng guest lodge which is 115km further. As much as this was annoying, it was well worth it. Even though I feel that one can always improve on service etc etc, I have to give Lapeng a 5 star rating for their unparalleled service. They were in no way responsible for our dilemma. They didn't have to accommodate us in anyway with regards to our requirements as they have their own procedures and regulations in place - but the staff and management bent over backwards for us. Nothing was too much effort and they did everything they possibly could to make our stay absolutely fantastic. To Werner - the manager you could find at breakfast early in the morning and yet still on duty till the bitter end of the evening functions. He made sure our needs were catered for, organised everything and ensured execution of what was discussed. To his staff: Eddie - who was around as often as his manager. For taking care of us, exceptional service and with his willing and friendly nature. To Bheki - who played waiter to us - even though not a duty he needs to perform. He was always there, replenishing our drinks was always helpful and professional at all times. And lastly, to Lethabo, the chef, who prepared a very special meal for us on Saturday evening. The meat superbly cooked and all the extras, salads etc so well presented and tasty. Even though this is not rated a 5 star establishment, if you want personalised, professional and 5 star service, you are going to find it here. Should you ever find yourself having to drive 115km further then you intended, only to end up here, rest assured that you couldn't ask for a better place to end up in. To Lapeng and all its staff - thank for you helping us make this the special it weekend was always intended to be and know that I will always fight in your corner. Blessings to you all.…
This is the most amazing venue you will ever find. The whole weekend was very special from the Friday till the Sunday we had an awesome time! Thank you to Werner and all his staff for being so helpful and also Eddie such a nice guy! The Food is AMAZING! A must visit!!
Went on a quick trip to Burgersfort with my hubby and stayed at This nice lodge. It’s very well maintained, lush green lawns, sparkling blue swimming pool. Very friendly staff. Gilbert especially friendly and helpful. Rooms a bit dated, we stayed in room 18 and it was definitely not the most comfortable bed, every time you turn over it makes a heck of a noise, mattress not very comfortable. Air conditioning a big plus in summer. No complimentary water in room a disappointment, but you can buy bottled water from the bar. Breakfast the normal run of the mill breakfast. Dinner was fine, both nights we didn’t get exactly what we ordered, first night didn’t get my cheese sauce, only arrived half way through my meal, second night ordered a chicken schnitzel with salad and received it with chips and veggies. Hubby had fish was ok but nothing special. All in all not a bad stay, beautiful setting, saw Some game which was really nice. …
