Make no mistake. When they say "climate controlled" it does not mean there is air conditioning. It is air cooling with terrible thermal insulation in the rooms and no working cooling at all in the dining room. In the rooms the air cooling just reduces the temperature a bit, and when the temperature outside is 41 degrees it is totally inadequate for comfortable living. When the power goes off at night, there is not even air cooling as the generator does not provide power for that. Try sleeping in 29 degrees at night without cooling. The lodge is dated and badly maintained. Our rooms did not have bedding when we arrived at 17h00. The pool pump has not worked for weeks. Dust finds itself into all areas if it is windy as it is a tent and not sealed. The tent canvass is old and stretched so flaps loudly at every bit of wind. Food is ok and the staff does their best. I hear that the guides dont even get air cooling in their rooms. It must be like sleeping in a sauna for them. I am sure it will be a much better experience for guests in Spring and Autum One benefit is that it is within the park gates so you get an early 06h00 start before the rush of cars. All the negatives do not make up for this as the sun rises late anyway, so you have time in the morning to get to the gate before the sun rises. For the money rather book elsewhere.

This Lodge is just at the border to the dessert. This is the oldest dessert in the world and around 50 million old. So, it is perfect spotted for excursion into it. The design of the lodge is very artistic and practical and really, really beautiful. It even has a swinging pool. However, the size is more for cooling down and definitely not for swimming. Our house tent consists of two unit. One is the large room with a large bed, that was unfortunately hard, and I prefer soft ones. It was air conditioned this made it reasonable cold. However, a tent is really a challenge for an aircon. The second is the spacy bathroom. The staff is abounded and very friendly and helpful, but all male. We also liked the food and there were always several choices and a lot of game as main course.

We stayed two nights and had a great experience ! The hotel is just wonderfully designed, lodges are spacious and comfortable. Location is the best as you are inside the park and therefore don’t have to queue to enter in the morning. We booked the tour to sossusvlei with the hotel and we were the first ones arriving at the dunes which was such an incredible experience. Staff was very nice and food overall good for being buffet (although I believe the lunch options should be less limited).

Not only is this place an architectural gem, it is a unforgettable place to base yourself when exploring the area. The entire property is stunningly designed. You feel like you are walking through a magazine. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and very eager to ensure your stay is totally enjoyable. The food is unique, so fresh and extremely tasty. The Chef has a great personality and makes everyone feel welcome and appreciated. If you are contemplating staying here… DO IT!!! You won’t regret and will have incredible memories.

There are just too many little things that go wrong and the price you pay is too high for what you get. I am afraid that things will not change as people mainly book it to be the first or the last ones in the park. So they do not really have to improve things. But if someone from management is willing to read this, I would recommend the following: maintenance: doors close poorly, they are banging around in wind, wash basins are instabil, the sink drain was leaking, sockets in the rooms were unusable (looked like they were full with sand), the only socket that was working was the one in the outside "kitchen", so I had to blow dry my hair outside, nice star viewing opportunity but involuntary food: there are no carbohydrates with lunch, they bring you bread if you ask for it, otherwise you get your meat or fish with a salad, the fish was tiny by the way the breakfast buffet is a joke, there is almost no selection, the quality is that of NWR camps, so very basic and absolutely disappointing, have a look at the breakfast from Mokuti Lodge (Etosha) and do at least a fifth of what they are offering; even Sossusvlei Lodge around the corner outside the park has a substantial better breakfast buffet..... tents: a nice idea, but not practical, even in December, where nights are around 14 degrees Celsius, we were freezing and had to put on our down jackets in bed...be prepared for that, no heating, if you are there with lower temperatures it will be very, very uncomfortable; also the bathroom located outside the room might be sort of fun but is also not practical; the towels were not good quality and should be replaced with new ones pool: there are loungers there but the cushions were missing on most of the beds and there were no towels around staff: some people are really nice, others a bit arrogant, the vibe was not the best among staff I would say parking: there are only about 6 parking spaces that offer shade, they should built more good points: dinner buffet was very good, good selection and you get something for your bucks (not the case for breakfast or lunch) bed was very comfortable air conditioning was working well, also had a good location next to the bed on the floor, not blowing on your face as in so many other places

The resort is conveniently located within the main Sossusvlei gates, allowing you access into the park an hour earlier than guests staying outside of the main gates - making for additional photo time and more enjoyable weather for climbing and photographing the dunes. The rooms themselves were stunning, with the comfiest beds and air conditioning (a must in the desert!). The main resort was stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and breakfast buffets. The hotel is also very flexible in offering take away breakfasts for those who are wanting to head off first thing in the morning to experience the dunes and they also provide you with a delicious take away lunch on the day of departure which is very helpful as there is nothing around for a couple hundred kilometres other than lodges and petrol stations. The pool facilities were nice and in high demand of an afternoon. The staff were very friendly and professional, however can take their time in responding to requests (such as getting towels for the pool etc). Would definitely recommend for a night or two.

Located near the entrance to the park, this is a perfect place to arrive early to the Vleis before it gets too hot or later to hike Sesriem Canyon. We loved the openness of the lodge and our gorgeous accommodations, complete with Oryx napping in the shade and the sound of barking geckos when the sun fell. P.P. and his staff did an excellent job with the braai, offering such game meats grilled in front of you as, Kudu, Orynx, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Eland, and Steenbok sprinkled with delicious Namibian Kahana Spice. We were also encouraged to try the fried mopane worms, which are a Namibian delicacy. We would definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed Dead Valley Lodge, it's inside the first main gate which means you can be first in line for a second gate that opens at 5.30am and be in the park before sunrise. The staff were SO friendly here, we loved it. The design of the hotel area, all open plan, airy and modern really appealed to me, lovely restaurant area and large bar with stools around. The food was very good, a buffet and plenty of choice with meats cooked to order. The pool area was small but nice and never overcrowded when we were there but it was hot! For the day we went to the Vlei's early they also did a breakfast pack to take with you and this place was full board with simple salad selections for lunch. The tented lodges are big and split in 2 halves with a large bathroom on on side and room on the other. Even had air-con though they were still tents! big comfy bed too.

I was on a road trip with friends and I wanted to be at Dead Vlei for dawn. As there are only two camps that I know of inside the first gate at Sossusvlei, I booked us into Dead Valley Lodge in order to get an early start. We were all thrilled with the accommodation and the hotel. It was the perfect desert setting, yet comfortable and luxurious! The staff couldn't have been lovelier and the food was great fun. There was an opportunity to try lots of different local game meats. The chef welcomed everyone to dinner with a drumbeat and made sure everyone was happy and settled. We had a great guide who took us out to Dead Vlei very early and the hotel provided us with a packed breakfast. It was a wonderful experience.

Booked as part of a trip organised by Audley Travel. Flew into an airstrip about an hours drive over gravel roads from Sesreim. The welcome we received was warm and. Friendly, and although we were early our chalet was soon ready. The roof and walls are canvas with mesh windows with canvas covers on the outside and curtains inside. It was spacious and the king size+ bed was comfortable. When the wind didn’t blow it was very quiet, and when it did the sound against the canvas lulled me to sleep. The food was generous in portion size, and Chef PP was the life and soul of the party. The range on the menu wasn’t huge, with red meat predominating but it was well prepared and tasty. Lunches were simple affairs and the two nights we were there dinner was a buffet/bbq. Plenty of dishes to make up a starter and to accompany the bbq meat or fish and all very tasty. The highlight of the trip for us were the guided tours Elim at sunset, the Sossusfrei Sunrise tour, with a climb up Dune 45 at 6:30am and the Sesreim gorge. On all three our guide was Richard. He was friendly and informative without lecturing us. He was mindful of our capabilities, to the extent of offering to carry chairs up the Elim dune so that we could sit in comfort to watch the sunset - we made him leave them behind, but he insisted on carrying up a cool box so that we had sundowners at sundown. Most importantly, in the gravel roads and river beds he was a careful driver, mindful of our safety and, as far as possible, our comfort, but some degree of “African Massage” is inevitable off road. He is a real credit to an excellent lodge.
