I wanted to stay here and was full even months in advance. I waited and eventually managed to get the booking. We booked 2 superior rooms and got them in the last row as requested with uninterrupted stunning views of the desert.
Rooms were nicely done up and even had an air-conditioner. Bathrooms were massive and had a soaking tub, which was amazing to relax after spending a day in the desert.
Their meals were extravagant. This was the only place where we really loved food. Being vegetarian, we usually got veggies stuffed in veggies. But here there was a buffet with endless variety. They at least had 10 to 15 types of salads, live stir fry counter and more. For breakfast, they gave us an enormous picnic basket which we relished in the desert. Don't forget to ask them for it, it was included in the price.

Everything was perfect, the only problem being their housekeeping lady who didn't get have a basic understanding. They would serve the room twice daily. Each time she would come, she would hang all the used towels lying on the floor and even unfold and hang the fresh towels. Therefore, all the used and unused towels would get mixed. Even on the second day of our stay, she didn’t change the towels. After spending a day in the desert, being all muddy, we were looking forward to soaking in the bath-tub. But we had to go back to the reception and request for fresh towels. After some time and effort, the housekeeping lady got us fresh towels and behaved as if we had asked for gold. Again in the evening, used and unused towels were mixed and we had none left for the next day.

Dear Kavita, Thank you for the wonderful rating and review! We are very pleased that you enjoyed the air-conditioned rooms, the huge bathrooms, the stunning views, extravagant evening buffet as well as the breakfast basket you took into the Park with you. With the current drought in Namibia we do not exchange the towels of stay-over guests with every housekeeping check, but do hang them up to dry (since it dries so quickly) to do our bit to save our precious water resources. Looking forward to welcome you back during your next visit to Namibia! Best wishes, The Sossusvlei Lodge Team

Fabulous lodge for our 3 night stay in the area.  Classy 5 star establishment with extremely friendly staff in all departments.

The chalet was air conditioned, reliable hot water in the rain shower. His n Her sinks to save time in the morning. Standard of maintenance and cleanliness excellent.

Food was great in choice quality and preparation,  beautifully presented each evening. Buffet style starters and deserts and BBQ station, stir fry station and fish station ready to prepare your choice fresh on request.  We were impressed with the choices of meats available,  presumably in a game lodge responsible animal husbandry means that fresh meat becomes available daily.

Breakfast was great with a good selection of cereals, including porridge,  fresh fruits, as well as bacon and eggs etc at the eggs station.

The pool area is very good and we enjoyed a relaxing dip on our day at leisure. I had been worried about the heat but there were plenty of sun canopies over each bed to protect us. Plenty of dips and keeping exposure to a minimum kept us from getting overheated or burnt.

Nice little shop selling a variety of things, toiletry items and souvenirs at reasonable prices.

The location is great, and it was wonderful to be able to watch out for wildlife during a swim, or meals or drinks  etc.

There is an activities office who can arrange a number of trips during a stay.

Overall an excellent place for our 3 night stay.

We loved the little details that made the lodge luxurious for our taste. The damp towels at check-in may not feel important from the home perspective but after a sandy day in the desert, they were divine. The lodge seemed popular but was quiet and peaceful.

Special acknowledge for the stir fry at dinner, it was so good and the lady cooking it was helpful and skillful.

We stayed at the lodge for two nights as part of a self drive trip around Namibia booked through Trailfinders. This lodge was rated 3*+ by Trailfinders but sadly we didn't find it to be as good as some of the lower rated accommodation we stayed at during our trip. The main reason for my negative review is due to the attitude of the staff we encountered, they just seemed to be rather unhappy and service was very impersonal. In particular the gentleman who greeted us on arrival and helped take our bags to our rooms gave a poor impression, he wasn't at all friendly.

The food was also rather disappointing. I completely understand it must be very difficult to provide great food in such a remote location and for such a diverse clientele but the buffets were not something I looked forward to, the meat selection was well cooked but the accompaniments were over cooked and dull and while the puddings looked interesting they generally looked better than they tasted and it would just have been nice to have some fresh fruit.

The rooms are pleasant if a bit dated. The location at the gate of the park is great in order to get into the dunes before the sun gets hot.

This lodge lives off its location near the dunes and does not pay enough attention to the service levels and quality of accomodation. As a customer we felt as though we were being accommodated in a fixed regime of service without any flexibility. We would not return as the eating was dining by numbers and too much of the service was too strict including eating times etc.

Dear Redarmy, Thank you for the rating and feedback of your stay. We are normally praised for our service levels - our apologies that you did not experience the hospitality that we are renowned for. Dinner is served as a buffet in the time-frame from 19h00 until 21h30 which gives guests ample time to leisurely dine and is not extremely strict? Best wishes, The Sossusvlei Lodge Team

We were at the Sossusvlei Lodge with an upscale tour of Nambia. There was money taken from our room safe and we were not the only ones in the group that this happened to. When the staff was informed they were down right rude and defensive and blamed us. Turns out anyone can get into a safe, all you have to do is look it up on utube. Also, two of the ladies in the group had to put a deposit on hairdryers at the front desk and when returned, they were not given their $5 back. The tour guide had to approach the front desk manager on principle! Would caution anyone who stays here to keep their exceptions low and their money on them at all times. If you do use the safe, count your money before and record it. They like to take a portion so you don't notice it's missing.

Dear Wendy, Thank you for your review received. We are quite surprised that you are actually taking the chance to leave a review of this nature after what really transpired at the lodge. Due to the fact that you were severely under the influence of alcohol you became instantly aggressive and insulting when our manager merely asked a few standard questions in order to launch a proper investigation. We therefore handed the matter over to the Police. The correct investigative procedures were followed and it was concluded by the Police that no money was ever taken from your safe. Your statements and the amount of money taken kept changing and your aggression was worrisome. When you did not succeed in threatening us into giving you money you pushed creepy threat letters under our management’s door at night?! It seems you forgot that you paid cash on more than one occasion for the enormous amount of alcohol bought and consumed at the time and most likely just lost count on the amounts that you actually spent. Never in the many years in the industry have we come across such shocking behaviour from a guest, and we have most definitely never received threat letters pushed under our doors! Best wishes, The Sossusvlei Lodge Team

Right by the entrance to the Park Entrance. Lovely, nicely appointed, good sized airconditioned rooms. Extensive breakfast and dinner buffets. (We didn't eat lunch there.) Dinner had a least a dozen kinds of mostly game meats, fish, other seafood, stir fry, etc. At different times, we had both a mother wildebeast with 2 youngsters as well as a pair of wildebeasts grazing by the pool areas. A couple oryx also came by. There is a watering hole a hundred metres or so from the dining area with an elevated viewing area. The only extra activity we took was a lovely sundowner jeep tour. Didn't see any animals other than a single jackal but the scenery, sunset, appetizers and drinks were worth it.

We spent 2 nights at this beautifully situated lodge. We had a lovely unit with unobstructed views of the desert. We spotted many oryxes close to the lodge and on our evening walks. . The room and bathroom are very spacious and have all the modern amenities. There’s a small porch outside the front door with a couple chairs, but we never really sat there. Breakfast and dinner was included and was good quality with quite a variety at dinner. This lodge gets a lot of big groups, so some of their food is typical of lodges that cater to big groups. Overall, food was good. I thought breakfast could have been better with the addition of chopped or a variety of fruit. Cereals were also very basic. No cakes or sweet breads. Coffee and tea was available in the reception area throughout the day and staff was very welcoming everywhere. In the evenings, the bar staff lit a fire outside, which we enjoyed along with cocktails. There’s a small pool with comfortable seating around it and also a deck above the bar, which has seating and lovely views. This lodge is situated right outside the entrance to Sossusvlei, so it was very convenient. The only thing I found odd is that the bathroom did not have a blow dryer, so when I asked for one at the reception they asked for a NAD $100 deposit to borrow one.

You can't get any closer to the park entrance (unless you are staying in the park!)

We very much enjoyed our stay here. We were one of a few tourists there so they upgraded us to a chalet/tent with a better view. The room itself is very comfortable and very large (even includes a fridge!) The bathroom is enormous and includes a large soaking tub.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. We booked several activities through the lodge including the sundowners nature drive (epic!) and a guided tour through the park. Our guide was wonderful - very knowledgeable and very proud which was a good combo!

There is a pool but it was very cold so we didn't use it.

The views are EPIC here.

The food is buffet which was just ok. It wasn't bad but all of our other meals in Namibia were excellent so it was a tough comparison. (This is the only reason I can't give it a 5 star.)

Overall, if you can't get into the park lodges, then I would recommend this hotel very much.

By the time we got to Sossusvlei we were accustomed to the lodge style of accommodation in Namibia. The Lodge is not as dramatically situated as some we stayed in, but our room was one of the two best we had on our trip (and we stayed in a dozen places), large and airy and more imaginatively decorated than some. Dinner was the inevitable buffet, but it was the best we came across, and we were able to eat outside in view of a waterhole. At the cooked meat station (vegetarians look away now) it was possible to order from about a dozen different kinds of antelope, but even if you avoided this, the choice on the main buffet was better than anywhere else we stayed. Having to drag ourselves away at 5 a.m. the next morning, in the knowledge that we weren't coming back there, was painful.
