Hammerstein is situated between Swakopmund and Lüderitz, nestled between the Nubib and Tsaris mountains. It is an ideal stopover for travellers to the south of Namibia. It is in close proximity to the beautiful Sossusvlei region and only 60km from Sesriem. Visitors have a choice between bungalows equipped for self-caterers, camping facilities or dinner, bed and breakfast lodging. A few kilometers from the Lodge, rocky outcrops of massive granite boulders conjure up visions of a giant’s playground. It is from one of these boulders – an enormous rock shaped like a hammer – that “Hammerstein”, the German name of the farm, was derived.

We were positive surprised after all these negatives ranking. We had room 50, which was quite, clean and with a wonderful view into the nature...and silent. Close to reception and pool. air condition was running perfectly and the food selection was small but in a good quality...especially the soups (Butternut) a dream.
Unfortunately WIFI only at reception and also there very weak. Overall a good stay for a "2*-Lodge"

No one who has visited the Hammerstein Lodge would accuse it of being a luxury property with the latest décor, it's very dated in terms of it's looks and facilities, but what it lacks in facilities and interior design it makes up for in friendliness and a keenness to make guests feel welcome. Check in was smooth and efficient. Our room was basic, with no TV, safe, fridge or Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi is supposed to be available in reception, but I couldn’t connect there either during my two-night stay. The room did have a small wardrobe, mosquito net, small bathroom with a shower. Lighting and power sockets in the room were good, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small and basic, but fine for a couple of nights with a shower, sink and toilet. Breakfast and dinner are buffets, the food was tasty, wholesome, and plentiful. Service was excellent. We found the same level of service in the well stocked bar. We were especially grateful to Oliver at Reception, after he booked us a game drive at short notice where in a neighbouring game reserve we saw white rhinos, jackals, zebra, wildebeests, and elands, before enjoying a sundowner beer. The game drives although extra are very much recommended, I also went on another one. The location of the Hammerstein Lodge is good for exploring the dunes and other attractions in the Sossusvlei area, but the Hammerstein Lodge is in a remote location, there is nothing nearby bar a few other places to stay. If you want luxury and all mod cons then this place doesn’t fit that description, but if want a warm welcome and just a place to lay your head while you explore the region or just pass through, this lodge will fit the bill.

The location is nice. The room was small, the beddings a bit dirty and the cushions smelled a bit funny… The door was hard to open and close, it was making a loud noise. The walls are quite thin so you can hear anyone outside of the room going up and down the stairs. The staff is nice and the food is good. The swimming pool wasn’t looking that good. I would give this hotel a rate between two and three points on five.

We, my wife, my son and his partner, were guests at Hammerstein Lodge in the Southern Region, Sesriem Namibia from March 11th, 2023 to March 13th, 2023. Both the service, as well as the cleanliness were unreservedly excellent. The friendliness with which we were greeted and served by the gentlemen of the lodge was very great. The entire area invited to linger and relax after a strenuous journey or excursion program. Located in the wilderness, the resort offers peace and relaxation. The food was simply delicious in terms of freshness and taste. The starry sky shown to us at night with a view of the Milky Way was a sensation. The bookable game drive was also a great event. For a European, and maybe not only for him, it is a great experience to observe and photograph wild animals from a distance that is comfortable for animals and humans.
We would like to say a very special thank you and a big compliment to Oliver, who is a mainstay of the lodge with his service and courtesy. Always a friendly word on his lips, always in a good mood and very attentive, that's how we got to know and appreciate him.
However, we have to add one criticism. Pictures of animals, including big cats, that could be petted at the lodge are still circulating on the Internet. These should be removed, as they give the impression of a petting zoo in the wilderness. This no longer exists in the lodge and that's a good thing. Dear management, it is now your task to remove them. The pictures give a completely wrong impression of the lodge and it is a pity when a positive impression is clouded and weakened by possibly false expectations.

I stayed here during a Nomad tour. The ground is big, there is a pool, wifi works well (I had some issues with my iPad, but on the phone it worked well).

I stayed at a lodge. The lodge itself is basic, but has everything you need. The shower was great. It was clean. It was fine to stay here for 2 days.
The campground had some issues with one of the bathrooms which flooded after a shower. But the campground and kitchen were clean.

Comfortable and well maintained lodge in a nice setting. Friendly staff. Great value for money (especially when compared to other options) . One has to remember this is remote Africa and set expectations accordingly.

Good clean accommodation in the heart of a desert setting. Helpful staff and good breakfast and dinner. It was a bit cool in the evening so sat by a lovely open fire in the bar. Enjoyed an afternoon game drive and good evening meal and breakfast

simple room, clean, everything works, no a/c, no fan, no heating - in namibian winter in august we had 10 degrees celsius in room in the morning !
young gepard roaming the lodge area, you can play with him, his parents nearby , kept in an area surrounded by a fence, walking tour into that area with guide, get very close to gepards, and then there is hans, a zebra, that attracts the attention of the guest - beware he bites

We were three couples that stayed for two nights in the self-catering units at the lodge when visiting Sossusvlei. Quick and efficient check in process with friendly staff.

The Lodge is about 60km from the entrance gate to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon.
If you are considering accommodation for a visit to Sossusvlei this is a great choice.
On the day of your visit to Sossusvlei you need to leave the lodge by not later than 6 to be at Sossusvlei entrance gate when they open at 6:30. It is a gravel road to Sossusvlei in excellent condition and well maintained.

The lodge has a great pool where we spent a lot of time to cool-off after our Sossusvlei visit.
There was no Wi-Fi during our visit but that did not really matter as it was a really relaxing stopover. There are a few large trees next to the pool where you can relax with a drink in the cool shade.

The rooms are clean with comfortable beds and good shower. It is nothing spectacular and probably a bit dated but taking into account where you are it did not bother us. I think there was an aircon in the room, which we did not make use thereof as you can sleep with open windows. The early mornings were surprisingly cool.

Inside the lodge is a large lounge with tv, great bar and very large dinning-room. You can have breakfast and a buffet dinner at the Lodge, but make sure that you get to the dinning-room in time as it is very busy and you may be disappointed if you pitch late. Breakfast is NAD130 and Dinner NAD260, they also have a very limited menu for lunch.

Good choice to stay and a definite recommendation

Arriving at the gate it gave the impression of a construction site more than a motel.
We were taken to our room which was one in a row just like a motel. It was a small room with two single beds. No fridge. No warm water kettle. A small bathroom. And two small chairs and a small table. The bed lamp is simply a bulb in a holder, no shade. There was no soap at the toilet and when asked for it they came with a shampoo dispenser. There is no way of heating the room. The night temperature is LOW this time of the year.
The view from our room is a small hill 25 meters away, some trees and bushes and a lot of sand. We were not told that similar rooms were available at the other side of the buildings with a marvelous view.
If you want a view ask for rooms facing the mountains as rooms 46-49
There is a large room for dinner and a large bar with draft beer.
The outside areas are OK, some green grass, a lot of chairs and tables. And there is one "wild animal" walking around.
There is a pool for dipping.
Dinner: buffet style, food OK, nothing exceptional but acceptable.
Breakfast: very simple buffet style. If you wanted egg etc. you had to go to the kitchen and call the staff.
Their WIFI has not worked for ten days they are telling us, and it was only for the main areas anyway.
The whole place gives the impression of "I do not care", Outside light stand hanging or bent or propped up with a few bricks.
The staff, though are attentive.
We booked two nights but left after one. I guess that tells it all.
