The Norman Carr Cottage is situated on the southern lake shore of Lake Malawi, in the beautiful sheltered bay of Namakoma just 15km from Monkey Bay. A gentle and restful place where we promise you a memorable Malawian experience. You will be left with fond memories of this charming African country where time stands still, the pace is gentle and the scenery is stunning. Malawi has much to offer, sun drenched beaches, turquoise waters, abundant brightly coloured cichlid fishes, great for snorkeling and diving. Discover the magic of the open air aquariums which the southern lake shore is renowned for. We offer daily trips to various dive sites and remote islands for snorkeling and to experience the joy in the flight of the fish eagles

The staff welcomed us and made us feel at home. We enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, the captain of the boat feeding the 🦅 eagles, playing football with the locals, birdwatching, the delicious food, and the sunset cruise. Thanks for the life time memories!

This is a small (6 rooms) hotel hidden away in a small traditional village on Lake Malawi. It is run by Leoni and Taffy, a very friendly and welcoming couple. The cottage has a long history as a private place before being made into a hotel. The rooms are just on the beach front, shaded by huge Mango and Fig trees, with dozens of Baobab trees decorating the surroundings. The beach is sand and grass, and a rickety jetty takes you out to the clear Lake Malawi waters. All meals are included, basic but well cooked. The rooms are large and comfortable, in need of some maintenance, but that only adds to the charm of the place.

Slow the pace of your Malawi travels with a few days relaxing on the shores of Lake Malawi, in the former holiday cottage of pioneering hunter-turned-conservationist Norman Carr, now run by the convivial Taffy. The hotel runs morning and afternoon trips on its 70-year old launch, the MV Alfie, from where you can see fish eagles coming to the boat to eat, snorkel for cichlids, or just take another G&T as the sun sets.

This is close to Monkeybay in Mangochi and has a perfect beach for sun-rise and sun sets. With spacious and African traditional decorated rooms this is the perfect place for family or individuals . Our dip in the pool, showers under an open roof naturally set bathroom and a mouth watering meal, Norman Carr becomes very hard to leave. We had the opportunity to visit their sister lodge on the other side of the lake which was equally attractive. Norman Carr Chikulu eco-lodge is so secluded that it looked like the only inhabited place on the east side of the lake. It has beautiful gardens and the property has a Greek touch. Sunsets on its amphitheater looking beach fireplace are the best moments to gather thoughts and refresh. This is the perfect get away from it all. Our crew traveling with the Calendar Lake project were amazed by our hosts. Taffy and Leonie doted on our entire team and ensured that all our needs were met. Amazing people.

I've visited Norman Carr Cottage twice on trips to Malawi and this truly is the best resort on the lake and one of my favourite places ever visited. This family-run business provides an authentic African experience that you can't find anywhere else. The staff are professional and attentive without being intrusive. The food at Norman Carr Cottage was the best we could find on the lake some of the best we've had on our travels anywhere in the world. If you are a bird lover there simply isn't a better place to see fish eagles and other birdlife anywhere. The trips out on to the lake to spot the fish eagles brings you up close and personal to the birds in their natural habitat and is truly one of life's great experiences. My wife and I along with another couple from the UK were fortunate enough to travel across the lake with the owner to another resort he owns, Norman Carr Chikulu, on the opposite side of the lake. This resort is truly amazing and puts you in the middle of the unspoilt African bush. There we were able to see crocodiles and hippos whilst sitting around a fire watching the sunset over the lake. The times we've spent Norman Carr have been truly magical and the value for money simply can't be beaten anywhere on the lake. We will always go back there when we are in Malawi and I can't recommend it enough.
