I'm among the first visitors to Gili Air after the COVID lockdown so I had the island almost to myself. The accomidatikns were perfect, the host always helpful, and has been the best weekend in a long time. Sooooo relaxing.

I stayed at Bambi cottages for a few days. The cottages are really cozy and clean and is for 80% (!) made of bamboo!! The rest of the accommodations are also very lovely. The people who work there are really friendly and always willing to help you with whatever you need.

Magical bliss we love our bungalow, it's very spacious, the outdoor bathroom adds to our already memorable holiday, the staff have been so amazing and helpful nothing is too big or small, great chef, tasty meals, good cocktails, have recommended this to friends and family. We will definitely come back here with more people next time to share this joy with others. Thank you to all staff and owners at Bambu Cottages we've had the best holiday here. X

"A well deserved holiday reminds us to become one with ourselves again and appreciate the world around us that we have become parted from. Here you're stresses and anxieties will melt away like snow drops in the sun. So I relax back in my lounger to indulge myself in the Balinese sun as the barman fetches my cocktail and I while away many a day chatting, sunbathing and reading a fine book or two, pondering future, present and past" A great beach front location with Restaurant/Bar, Swimming pool, lovely cottages made of Bamboo; if you can believe it and a professionally attended treatment centre to alleviate those tight muscles. Greeted by gracious staff on arrival, your bags are taken if required where the proficient receptionist checks you in and you are presented with sweet and refreshing complimentary iced herbal tea to welcome your stay. From there you are led down the path that incorporates a beautifully well kept garden meandering from start to finish on both sides with indigenous plants, flowers and ferns that give an air of where you are in the world and the beauty and splendour that greats you at every turn. On reaching the room you'll first notice the beautifully constructed bamboo cottage that raises itself above you with its intricate weaves and the front porch area with plenty of space to stretch out the legs on comfy, pillowed bamboo seats, hang beach towels and garbs on the airer and take in the bliss of your surroundings but before you get to that point your room awaits! Light, airy and cool due to the efficient air conditioning that can be set to your preferred temperature with the remote provided, the room offers a spacious double bed, extra seating and a mosquito net that can be tucked in to give you that extra layer of protection in the tropics and surrounds your sleeping quarters. I've often come across accommodation in Indonesia that doesn't offer this but to me it is an absolute must have. Not only are the rooms pure heaven with one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in but on stepping out into the bathroom you really appreciate the thoughtful planning and work that has gone into the ascetics of Bambu cottages. An open air bathroom is that kind of detail that really lets you know you have arrived. Incorporating pretty palm plants in one corner, to the opposite side you'll find a sink that gives the impression of a volcanic igneous boulder, split horizontally, one half hollowed out and set in place to give you that facility while the other use of natural stone within the bathroom area is in keeping with this marvellous feature. You'll find hand soap, shampoo and conditioner in stone bottles with pump provided and the shower boasts both hot and cold water. The floor can become rather hot with the midday sun's rays but there is a floor matt that can be easily moved around to keep your feet well protected; another aspect gracefully thought out. Back out on the porch there is a lovely handmade brush to sweep away any debris or sand that may have hitchhiked on the bottom of your sandals during your stay, absorbent matts to dry your feet if a sudden tropical downpour might have caught you returning back plus open pottery vessels full of fresh water are at hand to rinse you feet and footwear if you should so need. Moving onto the front of house facilities, the swimming pool is a lovely size and depth to have a swim, paddle or just sit; immersing yourself in the cooling water and escaping the heat while refreshing the body and meeting a new friend or two. Also, why not indulge yourself with one of the many cocktails on offer; my personal affinity lay with the scrumptious strawberry daiquiri, Bliss with a capital B! Each morning freshly rolled towels are laid out on the sun loungers ready for a days relaxing and extras can be provided if you ask at the reception just two skips of the feet from the pool. Here you will find a selection of calming herbal teas, breakfast tea, local tasty Lombok coffee and a hot and cold mineral water facility that can be accessed both day and night by yourself. Reception is the place where you will want to book that massage treatment too for when you feel it is called for. The beauty of having the massage facility on location is that you can relax for a few hours after treatment while your body acclimatises and synchronises and remembers that it is one entity. When meal times are called for, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, there are a wide range or choices to satisfy the pallet. Open from 7 am until 11 pm, breakfast is served 7 until 10 but it was never a problem for the staff to still garner an hour or so later if you rolled out of bed past this time. There are freshly squeezed fruit juices of all kinds, baked bread, toast and jam, pancakes, granola cereal served with yogurt and desiccated coconut, which is scrumptious or fried choices including continental breakfast. During lunch time local cuisine is on offer such as Nasi Goreng (a rice dish), Mie Goreng (a noodle dish) and some others I'm afraid I can't pronounce; steaks and burgers, fresh fish including tuna tata, vegetarian dishes and vegan dishes that cater for all. Whats more they are freshly and lovingly prepared by a great chef using locally sourced ingredients, picked just hours before it reaches the plate. At dinner time me and friends often ate at base as we found the selection catered for us all with our varying tastes and we were amply satisfied. If you like a light bite at lunch or dinner then your request from the menu is interchangeable and not rigidly set. Also, table seating right on the beach front gave an added level of ambience and cooling while talking, joking and laughing together, enjoying the gently sound of the waves and sharing a tasty bottle of wine or two. The final aspect of Bambu cottages which I though was a touch of genius is the area adjacent to the bar with handmade wares of many a kind. On offer are items such as Bamboo straws with cleaning utensil to small baskets adorned with local shells, enamelled metal mugs, natural fibre coasters, some my mind has let slip but personally my absolute favourite which I shan't forget are the handmade soaps and body scrub bars that I quickly purchased and used throughout my stay. Lovingly crafted using only the finest of ingredients from lemongrass to ginger, honey and saffron and even charcoal that has such an amazing lather to it, the aromas gently cling to the body for many hours after use invigorate the senses. Taking away from my stay I will always remember the amazingly friendly owners and their wonderful staff that made this stay truly unforgettable. From front of house to kitchen, receptionists to the gardeners and to the cleaning staff; they were all such lovely, gentle, warming people and that I shall always keep close to my heart.
