This has got to be one the better self catering resorts we’ve stayed at. The chalet was an 8 sleeper unit, with 3 bedrooms, a sleeper couch and pretty much everything you would need. Breathtaking views of the mountain, kiddies play area + play room, putt putt, outside chess, tennis court, and a pool.
We will definitely be back.

What a wonderful setting under the Champagne Castle. Stunning sunsets, comfortable house, excellent bedding and facilities. The fire worked perfectly. And a braai outside looking up at the mountain under a superb sunset was memorable. We used the putt putt daily, and I used the golf driving range, which is nicely set up, with short grass so it is easy to find the golf balls.

Champagne Valley is your home away from home.Relax in calm and tranquil surroundings in Central Drakensburg, The chalets are spacious ,beautifully clean, and have everything you need, including wifi and solar. The staff are an absolute pleasure and incredibly helpful. There is something to entertain all, from the youngest to the oldest. This is a place that is worth every penny!

A quiet resort with spacious chalets although they are a little dated, especially the kitchens. Our kitchen cooker hood was in a parlous state - chipped and cracked. The main bathroom was very roomy and the shower large but it became a bath if the water was more than a dribble. Decent bed linen and luxurious towels but the pillows were rank with overuse. We couldn't use them. The spares in the cupboard were a little more serviceable although we covered them with the top sheet to disguise the smell.
We chose CVR as it had back up power. A break away without the hassle of stage 4 load shedding seemed a treat. We arrived on a Monday, unfortunately during an almost 24 hour Eskom failure, to a completely dead unit so were relieved that the power was restored by 5pm. Load shedding kicked in at 9pm. Our unit lost power again although the UPS took umbrage at the outage by emitting a high pitched siren. We spent the next two hours in complete darkness as there were no candles nor an emergency lamp in the unit. We spent our time doing crosswords by mobile torchlight till power was again restored. At 2am load shedding was again implemented and the UPS siren was again activated.
By 8am we were at Reception to ask for assistance in restoring the UPS system. The maintenance manager arrived later and all his attempts to rectify the problem failed but he did sort out the siren. He assured us the installers of the system would be at the unit by 9am Wednesday. We were given one emergency lamp for use by Reception at 4pm. It didn't work.
More load shedding that evening by mobile torchlight. No installer arrived at 9am. Another walk to Reception and we were told the installers would arrive that afternoon. We were finally offered another unit but the palaver of changing considering the installers were to be there that afternoon, and we were departing on Friday morning, inclined us to decline the offer pending a possible solution that day. No installer arrived but we were given a packet of candles.
On Thursday, after once again approaching CVR management, we were informed that the installer was not going to attend to the problem. Three days of waiting for service. Three days wasted of our mid week break.
We left on Friday morning.
We will never return.

Week break at Champagne Valley Resort. Lovely 8 sleeper unit, 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 private and sleeper couch sleeping 2. Children’s pool and larger pool with sun loungers. Not much signal at unit but wifi at reception. There was load shedding during stay but were notified which was helpful.

A great resort to kick your shoes off, relax and enjoy all the nearby restaurants and shops.
There are excellent golf courses close by if you’re a golfer 🏌️‍♀️.
We went with friends and had a great time.
We also visited The bird of Prey show nearby, an awesome show.

Room Tip: If you visit in winter, you can make a nice fire in the fireplace. This is a resort, not a hotel.

Wonderfully situated resort , just on the hill above the Sports resort. There are beautiful views of the Drakensberg , and easy access to the rest of the Drakensberg. The chalets are well built. The rooms are neat and well maintained. The restaurant is reasonably priced, with a good varied menu.

This resort really delivers the home away from home away experience it promises. Beautiful independent, spacious and well maintained chalets designed with a family in mind - 3 well furnished bedroom, large lounge , fully fitted kitchen, fire places and private braai space. There is everything in the units, very detailed - nothing could think off that wasn't provided. Enjoyed the large garden spaces, home picnic overlooking the magnificent Berg. Many activities available in resort including kid's playground, tennis court, games room etc.Located in the heart of the Drankensburg - ample outdoor activities within minutes from the resort.Gold crown status is well deserved. For its price, booking well in advance a must. Highly recommended without any reservation. Loved it.

Upon arrival check in was quick and efficient. Smaller resort, so no hunting for our chalet in a labyrinth. Was immediately impressed with the large 3 bedroom unit with ample living area. Kitchen was well fitted and 2 fridges available (2nd a bar fridge in smaller separate bar area which was very useful). TV and electronic entertainment facilities are totally up-to-date, with a second TV available. Cleaning service was not disruptive and very efficient. Children's facilities were very good and well maintained as well. Location of the resort allows easy access to all attractions/places of interest. Plenty of options to eat out nearby outside of the resort and shops available very nearby for self-catering requirements. Very peaceful due to smaller number of units and well maintained all round.

3beds, 3 ablutions, lounge, diningroom, lovely fit kit - units are large at around 350+ sq m. spacious covered verandah with lovely garden furniture - eat ourdoors or just sit and enjoy the lovely muntain view and beautifully kept gardens. each cottage/house has own braai area. play area for children, swimming pool, games room, outdoor chess. view of mountains. close to lots of activities. we love the peace and tranquility the area and resort offers. usually pre cook meals at home, freeze them then warm one up in microwave or oven each day at the cottage though we make sure we have our own braai as well and enjoy the resort braai on a wednesday afternoon. cottages are serviced - lovely staff. office staff super. tv and internet available. wonderful place for a break - actually could live there permanently : )
