Highly recommended.. Richard (Winston Park)

We stayed at Shiriba's Firefly cottage for four nights and really enjoyed our stay. Shirley was a great host and we had no reason at all to complain about anything. Upon arrival everything was prepared and clean with additional firewood made available for a very reasonable price. The cottage is fully equipped with a fridge, gas stove and any other amenities you could wish for. There is a DSTV decoder but make sure your smartcard will work with it. It is an older model and explora cards are not compatible for some reason. This actually turned out to be a good thing, I did not even miss the TV after day two with all the nature around to observe and experience.

We did not find a lot of restaurants in the vicinity but you should most definitely ask Shirley for directions to the close-by (+-5km) bakery. They make the best fresh bread rolls in the morning and the bobotie pie is something that you should not miss. I am unable to comment on the rest of the attractions since we enjoyed the cottage so much that we hardly left it during our stay. It was a great experience and I will definitely make an effort to book there again.

Tip:
Follow the directions received from your host, Google Maps does not report the location correctly

Honestone Cottage is absolutely my favourite place that i have been to. If you looking for a romantic getaway this is definitely the place to go. The privacy, tranquility and beautiful scenery was perfect and made my weekend a one to remember. My new fiance would certainly agree as he felt it fitting to propose in front of the fire place. I will definitely be back, as soon as possible.

We stayed at Shiriba for four nights last month. What a sensational location - right in front of a dam and many birds to watch. We were captivated. Our host Shirley was very responsive and welcoming. We loved our visit.

We have only good memories of our stay in Firefly cottage in October 2014! It is a peaceful, quiet and relaxing place. And right on the lake! We were very tempted for a swim and taking the canoe out but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. The villa has everything you would need, it is spacious and the living room opens on the terrace with a view of the lake. Shirley lives not far away and is happy to help where she can, we found her an extremely helpful and friendly host. From Shiriba it is close to Monks Cowl for hiking and we also recommend the coffee with chocolate tasting at The Drakensberg Chocolate Memories.

Indeed...... if you want romantic, peaceful, privacy, quiet, birds, paddle on the dam, awesome king size bed......then Honey Stone Cottage is a must. It is close to everything the Central Berg has to offer, yet away from the crowds. We will be back!!

We have been visiting Shirley @ Shiriba Lodge for a number of years now, and one of the main reasons we keep going back is the peace and quiet :) ... Honeystone Cottage is for just the two of you, for romance, getting re-connected again, or just to get away from it all ... it quaint, cozy and just made for two !!! ... The beautiful fireplace to sit next too on the cold nights with a stunning view of the dam ... or if its a hot summers day, their is a small rock pool to cool of in, or to just laze around ...and not forgetting the jetty with a sitting area in the shade to watch the bird life go by or read a good book .......Should you have friends or children then Firefly is for you ... plenty of space, also a fireplace and view of the dam, a boma and large garden ....
My husband (Ryan) and I go for walks around the farm, or go for canoe cruse ! (we call it a booze cruse, hehe!), around the beautiful dam with the most spectacular views of the mountains, Ryan loves the fishing and has caught plenty in the well stocked dam ... we just get lost in the calm and quiet ... we have also had some lovely times with Shirley, be it Christmas or just a braai together with lots of laughs and good food - after all this time Shirley has become one of our dearest friends - their is nothing she wont do for you to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible ... if you need some time, space, peace and quiet then Shiriba is for you ... go once and like us you'll always go back .... much love and gratitude Ryan and Linzi Stewart xoxo

My husband and I have stayed at Shiriba Lodge a number of times in the past few years in both the Firefly and Honeystone cottages. We love it! Not only is it a 'home away from home', it's a little piece of paradise. We don't have to worry about noise or crowds. Not only is it peaceful, it's got gorgeous views of both the mountains and the dam. Both cottages have everything we need and we can choose to relax and soak up the surroundings or enjoy a number of activities (we love to canoe and fish). We leave every time feeling like we have had a holiday. It is also close to surrounding activities and other places to venture out to. I highly recommend Shiriba Lodge for a short or long stay.

My husband and I recently stayed at Shiriba Lodge for my birthday. We stayed in the Honeystone Cotrage for 4 nights. This is a lovely area of the Drakensberg with lots to discover and do. I would like to point out that severe maintenance needs to happen at the Honeystone Cottage. Broken windows, loose balustrade on the stairs going up to the bedroom is dangerous as this is a steep climb. Not recomended for elderly people. Loose rickety walk way to the dam. The furniture is also very old and shabby.Walls literally falling apart. This spot could be such a gem, if only maintained properly.
