I have stayed in Winterton on previous occasions and was surprised when I found my usual accomodation has now closed. However, they replied to my email enquiry and recommended I try Winterton Country Lodge @ RoseCottage. Wow what a beautiful lodge in an incredible setting, and, within easy reach of the Drakensberg for its many walks and hikes. However I must give special mention to the Chef. James prepares a set menu each evening, using the freshest and finest local produce available and wow can he cook ! If I get to the area again I know where I will be staying (and Eating). My accomodation was in a Rondavel and it was extremely comfortable with everything I could possibly want. Staff were great and always helpful and, for those who like a good wine just talk to James again. They have a small but excellent cellar and James willingly suggests a wine to compliment your evening meal. Most definitly this place is at the top of my list of places I will happily return to.

We decided in the spur of the moment to cut our beach holiday short because of the weather and to visit the Drakensberge. We booked and asked Mark and Niel for electric blankets and dinner to be prepared for the evening. We had a lovely day and even saw the Drakensberge choir perform under the stars at the chocolate factory. When we came back later our food was in our rooms and it was well presented and tasted delicious. The beds were comfy and the rooms inviting and clean. The breakfast was also very nice. Besides all we enjoyed talking to the friendly hosts who went out of their way to make us feel at home. We as a family can recommend the venue and the peacan nut trees on the estate are beautiful.

First impression from entering the main gate "Garden of Eden" a piece of Heaven to rest my soul. Hostility was excellent, staff and managers were magnificent,. The quietness very comforting, no noise, no interference or any croudyness from other guests or staff, the spaciousness is a number one. The rooms are highly comfortable, and of luxurious standard, though still rendering an earthly experience of creation and early colonial nostalgia. Food well prepared, excellent tasety (the old colonial Boer way - magnificent) and dished up in super large portion filling the drained body after a hard days work to the optimum and more. Overall a plus AAA rating for the 4 days I stayed there, and a definite going back to, when ever in the same area again. Congratulations to Neill & Mark the Managers.

Easy to find on the main road before turning left which takes you into the town of Winterton itself.
Very friendly welcome, the manager/chef has hospitality plus running all the way through him. We had the most delightful stay here, nothing was any problem.
Large room with the extra of a kitchenette(the first night of three we brought food back to enjoy outside on a private alcove), very clean and safe and peaceful.
We had the pleasure of two dinners(3 courses beautiful designed/created), the lamb curry was flavoured to perfection, and the chicken stuffed Almond Pilaf aves robert sala- devine.
Good selection at breakfast, a cooked breakfast to order too. We throughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay based here to predominately to explore the Drakensberg area, the Pid and Plough was great for lunch/quality food shop, Winterton museum, Cathkin, Champagne Castle, the Drakensberg brewery, Cathedral peak, Cathedral Peak wine estate(good wine tasting), and all the little art and craft shops.
Fabulous stay, excellent value for money, grand host, beautiful tranquil environment.

We recently throughly enjoyed a two night stay in the Suite De Luxe room at this lodge. The room was a good size, complete with all the usual items such as coffee station and bar fridge. A nice effect was a decanter of complimentary sherry in the room. The bathroom was great too, with a jacuzzi bath and large double shower.
The breakfast was very good and evening dinners are available in need on request. We found all the staff to be friendly and most efficient. Overall, a most enjoyable stay and well recommended.

A down to earth value for money establishment. Wide open spaces for kiddies to roam, with the option of booking brekkie too. We arrived well after 21h00 on the Friday and found the proprietors most accommodating, in terms of opening up for us and showing us to our room etc.

Highly recommended for overnight accommodation or even a breakfast run on a motorcycle. Staff very friendly and attentive, dinner was excellent 'home cooking' which we prefer after a long ride. Some suggestions are: reduced prices out of season, a second 'cosy lounge' and more affordable white and red wines. Will definitely recommend to friends and fellow bikers!

With snow on the escarpment & a icy wind blowing across the valley, I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the welcome and the spacious accomodations. I did not have time to walk around the property - but look forwad to seeing the orchard in summer. Breakfasts were delicious with nmore than enough for the largest appetites.

We stayed three nights at Rose Cottage and were made very welcome by the staff headed by Sophewe. I believe it’s hospitality staff that can make or break your stay wherever you travel. After a hearty cooked breakfast and a wonderful nights sleep in a huge bed, we were set for the day travelling around the northern Drakensberg. We were offered dinner as an option on our return and did have a marvellous dinner on our day of arrival. I would definitely consider coming back to Rose Cottage in the future.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Rose Cottage. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. They even went out of their way to make my last day extra special. James helped us find activities to do in the area and checked up on us to make sure we were comfortable and felt at home. Will definitely be back!
