For our wedding lunch we spent one of the most beautiful moments of our lives in this very romantic, intimate hotel with a wonderful rose garden on the lake. The food and the paired wine were impeccable and the service of the staff during lunch was of great professionalism and kindness. We chose this location to celebrate our event because you can arrive by boat directly to the hotel, for the owner's willingness to make our wishes come true as we preferred and for the quality of the food. Even though it rained we were able to eat inside and everything was still perfect. Thank you very much to all the staff, Sabina and Andrea

Stylish, family-run hotel in a wonderfully quiet location on Lake Lugano with direct and real access to the lake. A true oasis, ideal for relaxing and with no alternative in the region. The rooms are very traditional but everything fits together perfectly and the view of the lake is unbeatable. The food is also good and in summer you eat in a pretty, flowering garden under plane trees. You get the impression that time stands still in the Stella d'Italia. The hotel is certainly perfect for a stopover on your way through, but there is a risk that you will just stay there and cancel the rest of your trip :). Small tip: all the rooms are beautiful, but it is definitely worth investing in a comfort room - the lake view is even better thanks to the large windows.

Extraordinary location by the lake. It's true that the seats at the restaurant (and Breakfast) depend on the room we occupy but it's not disturbing (we were in the "3rd row" and the view was very nice). The food in the restaurant is good. The staff is very kind. The rooms are a bit old but comfortable. Free parking accessible in front of and a few steps from the Pension (with disc but not seeming essential during the summer period).

The location on the lake and the terrace is beautiful. That is also the biggest asset of the hotel. The rooms are dated and the beds are in need of renewal. The friendliness of the staff is variable. Breakfast is mediocre and for a fried egg you have to pay extra. Watch what you order at the restaurant. Some dishes were more than sufficient but the tuna and ravioli were poor in quality. All in all not good value for money.

As we life in southern part of Switzerland we used to come quite often on a weekend for dinner before the pandemic. The lake side restaurant is a dream for every one that is looking for a dinner experience before the time of mass tourism. Professional waiters dressed in black, real silver ware, great food.
BUT: It seems that the hotel does not like outside guest any more. The terrace is separated in to an area for hotel guest and one for non hotel guest. Twice we arrived without reservation around 8:00 pm. We have been told no tables are available. So we took a drink in the gazebo between the two areas. Half of the tables for hotel guest were empty, while the non hotel terrace had only half of the capacity a was full. When at 8:30 pm we asked to get one of the tables for hotel guest, the chief waiter rudely told us that we should make a reservation upfront and should not pitch up. Happened twice. He possibly could have offered us something informal to eat in the gazebo. Instead he left us hungry
We did understand the message. Given the prices increase of almost 40% compared to pre covid we are spending our money on swiss side of the Lago Lugano.

The Stella d’Italia is a beautiful hotel that my friends and I return to regularly because it is pure heaven. Set by a garden on the lakeside, Lake Lugano is a constant and wonderful companion. All of the very comfortable rooms have a balcony, some with sweet smelling jasmin. An unbelievably magnificent rose is the roof to dining by the lake, and the whole garden is beyond words in loveliness. Very relaxing and comfortable, this hotel has helpful friendly and excellent staff. The food is gorgeous classic Italian. There is even a library to enjoy. I cannot recommend this wonderful place highly enough

Dream place to enjoy. This lovely, slightly dated, but that is allowed in Italy located hotel with a long history is for us a familiar overnight place to get to our final destination. The location is unique, nice guests and changing staff but always ready for you the cuisine is traditional. The rooms are different but always sleep fine. All in all it is about the total experience and that is great.

We stayed here for 3 nights in september 2020. The location by the lake is amazing, could not be beter. There is a deck with sunbeds, even though it wasn't high season, the deck could get really crowded in the afternoon. The room was spacious, cleen, but a bit outdated. Air conditioner did not work (or we couldn't find out how it worked). Nice balcony with lake view. We ate dinner at the restaurant on our first night, it was disapponting. High price for the food we got (small portion, mediocre quality). Staff at the restaurant was not friendly. Breakfast was a bit disapponting too: very basic (maybe because of covid?), did not seem fresh, small portions. For example: when we asked for eggs, they said that it was not included, so we had to pay extra for this.

Very friendly staff, nice hotel, good swimming (but watch out for water quality, it can change!). Tasty food, but the hotel kitchen hardly knows vegetables. Breakfast very simple, one type of cheese all week, vegetables for breakfast only on extra order. Salads are not on the lunch or dinner menu. Meals can therefore be heavy on the stomach. The price-service ratio could be better!

A perfect hotel in every way. A 10*** place without question. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful break at Hotel Stella d'Italia. The staff and warm and friendly, but highly competent and attentive. The food superb and the views breathtaking. My wife was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the view when we entered our room, that she began to cry! Thank you so much, David & Julie

The best months are June and September, it is usually nice weather but not hot as July and August.
A boat runs twice a week to Porlezza and Lugano but there is a good bus service to and from Lugano and Menaggio (on lake Como)
Kind regards
Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your kind request and apologies for the delay of
Kindly be informed that not all our rooms have shower.
Only two Superior rooms and one Standard room (ground floor) have shower.
Our mattresses are quite new but kindly bare in mind that they will never be like the home mattresses. We feel that it is a very personal matter with mattresses as some people prefer them firm and hard and some people may prefer a softer version.
Kind regards,
Silvia @ reception
