While travelling back from Rustenburg to Umhlanga Rocks we had problems with our vehicle and had to find midway accommodation late one evening. We are not fans of bed and breakfasts due to the (mostly) intimate nature of these establishments and normally use hotels. It was such a relieve to find this place! Although arriving after 21:00 the staff was friendly and efficient. The room was clean and adequate. We had dinner and breakfast - neither memorable, but did the job. The price was reasonable and I can recommend the hotel for an overnight stay when travelling between Gauteng and Durban.

My husband and I have stopped here many times on our way from Durban to JHB. On arrival we were most delighted to find that we received a discount on our accommodation because we had been there before. The staff were very friendly and processed our check in very quickly.
Our room had a king-size bed and big pillows pillows which is great when you are use to a big bed. Shower is in the bath. It's very small but it's good enough for an overnight stop. Soap, shampoo and body wash was supplied with lovely soft white towels.
There is a tea/coffee station in the room and TV.
The desk in our room came in really handy to quickly conduct a bit of business before we left.
Lastly much to our disappointment the Spur that was next door has closed down. It was already 9pm when we arrived so we purchase pies for dinner at the service station. We later on discovered that we could have had dinner at the hotel. Menu looks good and is open until 22H00.
A very comfortable stay. We will try the hotel restaurant next time.

When travelling between Joburg and Durban this is the perfect place to spend the night. Food and gas can be found in the nearby rest area by the N3.
Harrismith Inn struck me as very reasonably priced at 600R/night, clean and with friendly and attentive personell. Breakfast costs an additional 95R and I was a little disappointed by the dirty pool. But I spent a very relaxing night and used the complimentary wifi.

Dear Olli A, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent visit to the Harrismith Inn. I'm happy to hear that our location and service added to your relaxing evening. Maintaining our pool during the rainy season can be quite a daunting task! Visit us anytime, we look forward to welcoming you back.

It was lovely place, clean linen, clean showers. The staff was lovely, made our honeymoon extra special. They gave us complementary snacks and was helpful in giving recommendations of local resturants.

On arriving at approx 1400 on Dec 19 we asked if we could get something to eat only to be told that as it was a Sunday the dining room and bar were closed. However there was room service. When we got to our room we tried to call room service without success. Finally got hold of the lady on reception duty who informed us that there was no room service now but there would be at 1830 for approx 2 hours. When asking for help she said there was a Spur just at the garage around the corner from the hotel. The room service menu had, if I remember correctly, only 2 or 3 meals or you could have a sandwich. If you do not wish to cater for guests I would suggest that you close the place on a Saturday and Sunday. I expect some sort of decent service from a 3 star hotel that charges R645 for a room. I also asked if they had any literature on things worth seeing in the area and they had nothing at all, not one. The breakfast at R70 per person is daylight robbery to say the least. A little scrambled egg and two small bits of bacon and 1 slice of toast. We asked for more toast and got it but maybe one should be asked how many one would like. If we wanted anything at all we had to call someone. Nobody offered to get coffee or tea or told us to help ourselves to juice etc. Zip, nothing. This has been my worst hotel experience ever and I will certainly never stay there again and will not recommend the place to any friends. The staff on reception after 1600 on the Sunday were pleasant and polite. Whereas the lady that checked us in couldn't have cared less whether or not we were there and was certainly not at all helpful.

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of another wonderful stay at Harrismith Inn on Wednesday 1 April 2015 on our way down to the coast. We were once again impressed by the friendliness of each and every staff member. There were an impressive amount of guests staying over at the hotel for the exact same purpose.

On Thursday, 4 June we had the absolute pleasure of our eight stay at Harrismith Inn. It was freezing cold as the country was hit by a severe cold front and the staff members effortlessly ensured that we were comfortable. The manageress on duty made a very helpful suggestion on a restaurant for lunch (Cameleon Koffie Winkel – see my review). Like I stated in my previous review, no matter what season it is I can strongly suggest that you pack something warm to wear. Harrismith can get chilly even in summer!

The Sir Harry’s bar at the restaurant boasts a very cosy and charming ambience, is tastefully decorated and filled with nostalgic memorabilia. The bar also boasts a pool table to keep teenagers busy.

With regards to the suite we stayed in on both occasions I can refer you to my previous reviews. Once again we had a spacious suite which was spotless clean and very comfortable on both recent stays. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the room as well as a hairdryer.

The parking area has a security guard on duty and at night the gate to the entrance of the hotel is locked at 23:00.

Harrismith Inn prides itself as a business hotel which caters for conferences and stopovers for business and holiday makers. It is not a resort hotel to stay for a holiday. The excellent and convenient location next to the N3 with a garage and Spur Steak Ranch (restaurant) next door provide Harrismith Inn as the ideal hotel for this purpose.

We would once again like to thank Liezl Smith and her dedicated team for their true and heartfelt hospitality! We were welcomed back like family and not mere hotel guests!

We will be back later this year!

My husband and I stayed at the Harrismith Inn four times over the past four years.
On each stay we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and check-in was hassle free.
The rooms (standard and suites) are spacious and sparkling clean!
The beds and pillows are very comfortable, assuring you a good night's rest.

There is a Spur Steak Ranch around the corner from the hotel as an alternative dining option.

It is an ideal stopover from Gauteng to the coast and vice versa.

The evenings tends to be cold in Harrismith - even in summer and I strongly suggest that you pack something warm.

All in all, each stay was pleasant and good value for money!

We will be back!!

When I woke up in the morning, I thought I was going to have too much to say about the hotel, then when I got to reception I realised it has a one star rating, that sealed my fate. I really have nothing great to say about the place, maybe there is one positive for them. They are just on the freeway to Johannesburg, and that there is a garage next to them.

Breakfast was horrible, toilet was not working, water did not come out clean out of my tap, carpet was smelly. Come here not to expect a word class hotel, to rest and sleep for a day I think it's cool but more than one day sleeping here it would really kill me.

My husband and I stayed at the Harrismith Inn on 14 November 2014 for the sixth time on our way down to the coast.

We were warmly welcomed by all the friendly staff members whom even remembered us from our stay in June as well as our previous visits.

We stayed in a suite on the first floor (223). The suite was tastefully decorated, spacious and sparkling clean. The suites consist of a bedroom with en suite bathroom as well as an adjacent living room with a second bathroom. The king size bed was very comfortable and ensured a good night’s rest. A small bar fridge is available in the lounge area.

As my previous review mentioned, this hotel is the ideal stopover down to the coast and vice versa. It is conveniently located close to the N3 highway.

The Spur Steak Ranch is located around the corner within walking distance for dinner (see my review). For lunch I can highly recommend the Sugarman Café located at the Engen one stop at the other side of Harrismith.

Free Wi-Fi is available and the connection very reliable.
We had a brief discussion with a sleepover guest (from Bloemfontein) and he also confirmed that the Harrismith Inn is by far the best value for money for a quick stopover.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Liezl Smith and her dedicated team whom effortlessly once again made us feel special and at home!

We will keep coming back!!

We were warmly welcomed at reception by the friendly receptionist, Busi upon arrival on 27 June 2014. Check - in was hassle free and we immediately felt at home, once again.

My husband and I have utilized the Harrismith Inn for the FIFTH time as this hotel is an ideal stop over from Pretoria/Johannesburg to the coast as well as to the Central Drakensberg.

Not once were we disappointed by the friendliness of all the staff members, the cleanliness of the spacious rooms or as a matter of fact, any aspect of this hotel.

A very special thank you to Rejoice at the bar whom welcomed us back with warm smiles and took great care of us. We would also like to thank the manager on duty for her keen interest in our well being.

We will be back!
