The booking process was highly frustrating. Been put through from one person to another. Eventually got an email of confirmation after 3 days. This hotel is definitely not a 4 star establishment and should be downgraded to 2 stars. We booked the valley facing rooms which are tired! They smell miff and are in need of a revamp. Paint peeling off, cracked tiles in the bathroom, light shades about to disintegrate, carpeting stained etc. Having one restaurant open during the week is ridiculous. So be prepared to eat lunch and dinner at the one and only De Vinci. When the so called chef over cooks rice then be warned! The breakfast buffet is not what it used to be. Lovely weather and no tables layed outside. The staff very friendly as always. Last but no least, the casino… lovely and airy, clean with lots of staff. The machines are now set to the lowest payout if that’s possible. What a disappointment… there is no playing time anymore. People complaining all the time. Gamblers do not mind loosing but to feed thousands into a machine and not get spins is daylight robbery. You must think we are dummies! You can actually see the pattern and you have no chance. Use your heads.. up your payouts and you will get punters from Sun international coming to your establishment. We actually left a day early due to this. Plus the casino opens at 9am. Saving on costs!! Pathetic is one word.

Booked direct with the hotel whilst holidaying in South Africa as we had seen this was a hotel with hot springs. The booking process was good. The lady taking our booking was very helpful and went through our options and explained what was included during our stay. Upon arrival we were unsure where to go as there was no available parking right outside the hotel so we just unloaded the car outside reception, then my husband drove to the large car park a short walking distance away. Check in was good - the staff were friendly and as with the booking process explained what was included (spa access times, breakfast times, restaurant opening times) we were also given complimentary 200 rand per night of our stay to play in the casino. We had a 2nd floor room which was pleasant. It was supposed to be overlooking the pool but it didn't. It overlooked a childrens play area which thankfully for us was not used during our stay. Our room had 2 twin beds pushed together which was OK. The bed was comfortable and if I could have taken the pillows I would have as they were super comfy. We had a fridge, air con and full satellite TV. The bathroom looked a little dated due to it having a shower curtain which I personally don't like as they tend to smell. We had fresh towels per day and there was a heated towel rail which was handy for drying our towels after using the hot springs. The breakfast was buffet style and there was plenty to choose from. I was however little concerned when some of the hot plates were being replenished as it didn't seem to matter where the food was being put I.e mushrooms were put in the empty sausage container which could be problematic for vegetarian customers. The hotel had a bar area but this was not open during our stay so we had to walk over to the casino during the day to get a drink. We asked the bar staff if we could take our drinks to the hotel to sit outside which we could but on the proviso that we brought the glasses back. The only restaurant that was open during our stay was Da Vinci. This has the look of a fast food restaurant. The menu was limited and the food was just OK. The service on the first night of our stay wasn't great. We felt like we had been forgotten about so we literally took our leftover pizza to the counter to be boxed up and to pay the bill. The best part about this hotel is the hot springs. They were absolutely fantastic. As a guest of the hotel we could go in the hot springs from early morning to 11.30pm. Day visitors are also welcome to use the springs but they have to vacate by 6pm. There are various pools to choose from all a varying temperatures. There is a flotation pool which is very relaxing with a waterfall feature. The victorian baths don't look great due to the minerals in the water but once in the warmth of the water is very relaxing. There's a jacuzzi where the temperature was 33 degrees. Pool 3 had a temperature of 36 degrees. Pool 2 had a temperature of 40 degrees and Pool 1 had a temperature of 43 degrees. There was also a cold pool - sauna - gym and lap pool. The spa has changing rooms with showers and lockers (100 rand deposit required for lockers... you get 50 rand back on return of the key). If required you can rent towels from the hotel at a cost of 200 rand. The casino was fun. We used our complimentary 200 rand per night to play roulette and black jack. Night 1 we walked away with a win. Night 2 we were not so lucky but it was still a good night and over the 2 nights we gained 😊 Overall we would recommend this hotel.

We arrived at the Caledon Spa Hotel on a Sunday afternoon just after 14H10 for a 3 night get away with friends. Check-in, according to all our paperwork, was available as of 14H00 but this was unfortunately not the case (as the rooms were still being cleaned) and we were finally only allocated our rooms at 15H20 which was an irritation as we had to sit in the lounge with all our luggage up to that point (this while we were also told that the hotel was not full). I must point out that the staff in question were very polite and apologised profusely for the delay in the availability of the room but still, if you advertise a check in time then stick to it as we planned our timetable accordingly. The hotel lounge in which we sat has a bar attached which was open but only for drinks ordered by patrons eating Sunday lunch in the hotel restaurant. As such, we had to walk through to the casino to purchase a couple of bottled waters which we found rather annoying. We were advise later that the bar in question is only open on Thursday through to Saturday so at no time during our stay (Sunday afternoon to Wednesday morning) could we relax in the hotel lounge or sit on the outside veranda and order a drink from the bar! It seems that the only full time bar is in the casino area but it is located in the main entrance into the casino and basically in the middle of nowhere with no lounge chairs etc on which to sit, only a handful of barstools placed around the counter itself, the staff however were very friendly indeed. We were allocated room 106 which was a ground floor room close to reception. The room was acceptable but a bit tired in that there were scuff marks on the furniture, some of the curtain rail clips were broken and the one lampshade was literally falling apart, basically the room was in need of some TLC. There is some maintenance ongoing on the outside of the hotel so hopefully it will also extend indoors shortly. I must point out that the room and bedding was spotlessly clean and the queen size bed and pillows one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on in any hotel. There was also a bar fridge, coffee / tea station with kettle and a large safe in the room which proved very handy indeed. Bizarrely there was no information sheet in the room advising of even the number to press for the hotel reception and nor was there any explanation as to which channels were available on the included satellite TV package so it was all a bit hit and miss. The bathroom has a shower over the bath arrangement with a narrowish bath so showering even for a lean person cannot be undertaken without care. A plastic antislip mat is, however, provided for you to stand on in the bath whilst showering which did help. For some reason the hotel only provides a small bottle of shower gel and also a small soap in each bathroom which does not see you through if there are two people who shower twice per day. As such, we had to request additional soap from the gentleman who cleaned our room and this was sorted out quickly and in a very friendly and helpful manner. I would suggest that you request a room with higher number than our 106 i.e. on the ground floor say 140 or on the first floor 240 as these rooms are further down the hallway and away from reception. We, unfortunately, had kids running up and down the passage and hotel guests making their way to their rooms after a long night gambling at all hours so we were frequently woken up by slamming doors and a commotion going on in the passage way and this became a huge irritation throughout our stay. The included breakfast served in the hotel dining room was most enjoyable with an excellent spread from cold meats, yogerts, cereals to the usual toast, preserves and then hot dishes such as eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes and mushrooms etc. On the beverage side there were iced water, various fruit juices, tea, coffee and quite a large selection of other drinks available from their automated coffee vending machine. If you did not want to leave the complex and drive into Caledon for dinner at an off-site restaurant there was unfortunately only one option for dinner and that was an establishment called daVinci which had a ‘cafeteria’ type feel to it. Meals were acceptable but the place has absolutely no atmosphere at all and service can be extremely slow at times. A second restaurant on site which appeared through the closed glass doors to be more upmarket was called The Black Sheep Diner but we were advised that it was closed and it was unknown when it would open again. The warm mineral springs where what we came for and they did not disappoint. There are sauna’s, cold pools and 5 or 6 warm pools all varying in temperate from lukewarm to 45 Deg C ! We were disappointed to find out that the pools are closed on a Monday for maintenance so plan your stay accordingly if the mineral pools are on your to-do list. Towels for the mineral pools are available from the hotel reception but a refundable deposit is required before they hand over said towels.

We have been going to the Caledon Spa for more than 20 years and since Tsogo sun took over the place they are literally running it into the ground. It use to be a busling family holiday location but it has become cold with zero atmosphere. The rooms have not been upgraded, TV's never work properly and the airconditioning is archaic. We love the hot springs and have decided to only do day visits because we are always dissapointed with the accomodation and service. They got rid of all the staff that have been there for years. This place is definitely not a 4 star anymore. It appears that they are more focussed on the gambling. Really sad what they have done to Caledon Spa. We visited 4-5 times during the winter months. During Heritage Weekend 2023, I visited the Caledon Spa as a day visitor. As I had never been there before, I had no preconceived notions about what the place should be or should have been like. Swimming in the pools is a lot of fun for both kids and adults. The building maintenance appears to be lacking, which is bitterly disappointing. There are broken doors, certain windows need replacing, woodwork that can be done with painting and replacing with new pieces, paint that needs to be done, and overall cleanliness is lacking. Using a high-pressure hose can improve dirty paving and many lightbulbs need replacing. With a hospitality background, I might view this more critically, but the palace certainly looks rundown. I hope you will not let routine maintenance get you under Caledon Hotel and Spa and result in a substandard product.

Shocking experience. Hotel is so desperate for an upgrade it’s hard to believe it’s a Tsogo sun hotel. The bathroom has a shower in a bathtub with a shower curtain. Cracked basin. The room stank of cigarette smoke, We asked the receptionist why they don’t enforce the no smoking rule she just shrugged her shoulders. Empty bar fridge. We decided to go to the gym and hot springs and Were charged 800 rand deposit for two towels the size of a napkin. For R2440 per night we could have got a full air b and b self catering house. On the plus side the staff where all very friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable and breakfast good.

The decor is a bit tired but it’s nicely priced the beds are really comfortable including a decent breakfast and it’s a great location an hour and a half from Capetown with beautiful views from the garden facing rooms. The 4 natural thermal pools are a great experience plus there’s a really nice spa (head massage for £20 👍👍) and even better a really good casino where we played blackjack all night for 50R minimum. Unfortunately the spectacular bar and terrace and the highly-recommended-by-my-brother-in-law-restaurant The Black Sheep Diner were closed during the week, also the reception service was a bit picky about towel hire which was a bit strange. But otherwise it was all really good and we’ll definitely be back but over a weekend next time!

My partner and I went for what was meant to be a memorable occasion (being my birthday). The hotel was like something out of the 1980's. Bathroom definitely needs an upgrade. The service at the restaurant - Da Vinci was more like a canteen. We ordered the calamari as a snack. The calamari was left under the grill to keep warm and 5 minutes after the fries were dropped in the oil. We had to serve ourselves as I did not want rubber. As for the Black Sheep Diner - I ordered the steak medium rare which looked more like a tenderised steak as it was so thin. Going further as for the breakfast buffet that lacked variety. No condiments. Serving hake as a breakfast item is a no go. I was left extremely disappointed by the experience. I have written to Tsogo Sun Group and the Caledon to no avail. For the rates that are being charged I would not recommend the hotel.
