The Elgin Nor-Khill ("the house of jewels")is known for its tradition and ethnic Sikkimese ambiance. It is now a luxury heritage property. The Kanchan garden affords a rich view of the hills with the Mount Kanchenjungha in the background, which inspired the Chogyal (King) of Sikkim to paint for hours. The Elgin Nor-Khill was built by the King of Sikkim in 1932 and is the oldest heritage property in Gangtok, the property has played host to numerous celebrity guests such as his holiness The Dalai Lama, Hollywood stars Sir Richard Gere, Michael Douglas and Shirley Maclaine, the US Ambassador to India His Excellency John Galbraith and many more. The lobby is resplendent in the bright folk Sikkimese art with design motifs depicting dragons and flame symbols to thankas and ornate Sikkimese furniture (bachu, chocsue) and traditional jewelry.

The ambience, the old world charm , food , the warm and courteous staff who take great care of guests ,cozy rooms and the icing on the cake is Mr Hilton , the furry companion. Loved my 4 nights stay there ,I travelled solo. The management is extremely helpful and arrange all type of sight seeings etc .. I can just say one word ..'Perfect ' .

A beautiful heritage resort near MG road , old British style once residence of royal family , worth the stay , the staff is very courteous and helpful, though they need to improve on the service as it was a bit slow ( maybe because we were there at peak season ) , the food is good , a special mention to Sudip (restaurant manager) for all the pain he took to serve the best of food , rooms were good as per the hilly areas and were really kept well , overall it was a very good experience and highly recommended for people travelling with family, a good lawn made it better for children play area and not to miss Hilton ( the darling dog) who was the centre of attraction for all

Fulfilled my long held dream of visiting Sikkim. Checked into Elgin Nor Khill and stayed there for 4 days. Its a beautiful luxury heritage hotel... in an awesome locale with a beautiful view of the mountains... the staff is extremely efficient and helpful. The manager, Mr. Vasudev is especially attentive and helpful and so is rest of the staff...food is great and an added attraction is the super cute hotel dog 'Hilton'.... all in all an absolute delight of an experience!!! Booked 3 rooms for 3 nights. Good, clean, warm and comfortable rooms. Only issue is same as what I faced in Elgin Darjeeling on how they allocate rooms. We were given one room with view and 2 without. This is when they don't charge based on room categories. Maybe doing separate bookings instead of one may be the solution. Anyways, apart from this loved everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner or tea service. The staff is courteous, helpful and eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Must stay if in gangtok.

The hotel is one of the best in Gangtok, loacted a km from M G Marg. It has a heritage touch and you will go down the days of British Raj. The rooms are spacious but the place need special attention as the water floods the bathroom floor during bathing. The lawn is nice and big and we could a view of Kanchanjenga from our rooms. I missed a balcony. The food was good and specially the desert was awesome. Special mention to Mr Basu and his staffs who will take care of all your needs including travel. The review never ends before mentioning of Hilton the dog who is very friendly and roams around the garden.
