Perched high on a slope of the Okavango riverbank sit Kayova River Lodge. The view of the Okavango also known as the Cubango river is strikingly lush and peaceful. It’s the largest waterway and border between Namibia and Angola. The river system sustains a prolific ecosystem of many bird species, fish, hippo, and largest crocodiles. Affectionately known by the locals as "shiwangundu" (pearl) of the Okavango. Kayova Lodge is situated between the towns of Rundu and Divundu, Kayova River Lodge is perfectly positioned for guests to explore the natural beauty of the Zambezi region. Kayova River Lodge was officially opened in 2012 and is a 100% community-based lodge, with all the profits from the lodge going directly back to the Kavango community close to the lodge. Built with a purpose to attract and host tourist to the beautifully location, the lodge also caters for small break-away conferences and corporate visitors in a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.

It was probably the wrong time of the year to go to this hotel as it was two days prior to Christmas. The room is great, position of the hotel is perfect but when you told that there are no vegetables at all and you have booked for three days, that is unacceptable. Surely they could grew their own vegetables? The Manager was not around and eventually decided to leave this hotel and move elsewhere which was a shame.

The rooms are very good and the menu selection has food for all tastes. Rooms overlook the river.
We had a very pleasant river trip.
However if you want to visit the missionary this has to be booked in advance so we could not do this.
Also do NOT attempt the drive to the nearby Safari park. Even with a driver and 4x4 vehicle we got stuck in sand 3 times. The 'road' has recently been used by lorries which have made large grooves in the sand.

We stayed with 2 friends at the lodge in early September and our only regret is that we could not stay longer. The view from the lodge is stunning and we enjoyed watching the river, wild life and prolific bird life in the garden. Enjoyed the food and the staff was very welcoming.

The place is beautiful BUT the staff are unprofessional starting from the management to the waiters. The food is bad. We even had to wait for more than 40 minutes for our breakfast to be served after being told "we don't have eggs because the eggs that are there are for the people who will check in later". We refused and asked them to prepare our breakfast still. And finally we had our breakfast and it was bad
The staff need training

The boat cruise was really fun, because the guests made it fun. We were not offered any complimentary drinks ( even 1 bottle of water per person) for the cruise considering the heat!
The overall hotel experience was horrible. You either wait for more than 30 minutes for your drink or the waiter brings something that you did not order. The is also an issue of language because the waiter does not understand any English

This was a perfect stay on the drive between Etosha and Caprivi. We were taken on a sunset boat ride up the Okavango river, (seeing hippos and crocs!), the rooms were beautiful with very big beds, lovely staff and beautiful premises over looking the river.

We stayed here two nights on our way from Chobe to Etosha. Everything about it was fantastic and we have no complaints whatsoever. It was easy to find. The rooms, facilities and food were all perfect for us. The staff were friendly. We did the river trip at 4pm and saw about 50 hippos altogether in the river as well as numerous crocodiles and many varieties of birds. The guide was first class. We had two free drinks each on the boat. We also did a half day trip to a local village, the Mission, Hospital and Orphanage meeting many of the people involved in these places. It was just super and we would never have achieved this on our own. We had our washing (and ironing) done as well. There was free wifi. We would definitely stay here again if we were lucky enough to be back in the region. If I had a suggestion for some improvement it would be to add some outdoor chairs and tables for relaxation in addition to the outdoor dining tables.

We had two nights here and it is beautifully nestled on the Kavongo River looking out towards Angola. Nice place to relax. The staff are great and helpful and 10 out of 10 for the relatively new Managers who were very attentive and helpful. The rooms are clean and neat although a bit dated...however the new luxury tents that are being built are excellent with some lovely ideas and artwork.....next time I visit I will stay here and hopefully get a tent.

We decided to stay at Kayova River Lodge for 4 days and we loved it. The staff was friendly and the food was very nice. We ate definitely the best pizza in the whole Kavango region and were amazed by the Apple crumble we tried :)

Over and above every room has a nice deck with a beautiful view (towards the Okavango river) and also a pool for everyone to freshen up.

I asked for a boat trip on our first day at the lodge and immediately fell in love with the scenery and the wildlife (hippos, crocodiles, elephants, birds....).

Since the Lodge is part of a community upliftment project, we were happy that our money was well spent and is actually helping the local people with these projects (I can't remember all of them but they built some kindergartens and an orphanage for instance).

We will come back again and can highly recommend kayova river Lodge!
