We had the privilege of spending a weekend at Shakama. From the moment our golfing group of 12 arrived we knew that we had arrived at a very special place. We were warmly greeted by Angelique and her team. While we were shown around the the staff help unpacked the cars and took the luggage to the relevant rooms. The rooms were neatly decorated and clean. The aircon offered a welcome break from the bushveld's heat We opted for the option to include the chef for our stay and I must advise anyone who plans stay here to do the same. Tshabiso was an absolute gem of a guy! Not only did he ensure that the drinks and snacks were available, he was a master in the kitchen as well. Due to our many golfing commitments we never went on a game drive but I can only image how beautiful it must be. We however did take full advantage for the main lodge and entertainment areas. Whether you wanted to sharpen up on your putting or snooker skills or just take a dip in the pool or even just laze around the lounge areas and watch a bit of TV, this lodge has it all! The only real down fall would be the sand road from Bela Bela to the lodge. I would recommend you take a high riding SUV. I would not hesitate to recommend Shakama to any large family or group. A huge thank you to Angelique and her entire team in making our stay extremely comfortable and memorable.

We stayed at Shakama Valley Lodge for my 40th girl's weekend away celebration from 9 Sept to 11 Sept 2016. The lodge is beautiful, tranquil and has amazing mountain views. We were the only guests and we were given the freedom to play our own music. The staff was absolutely outstanding, they thoroughly spoiled us, and appeared completely seamless in their service. The recommended Chef's ( Abel Ndlovu) cooking was absolutely outstanding, and above all did it with a really lovely personal touch. In a nutshell we had an EPIC memorable weekend which is what we needed to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Thank you Sean Weber and the Team.

We stayed at Shakama on our annual girl's weekend away this past weekend. The lodge is beautiful, tranquil and has amazballs mountain views. We stayed at the Mountain Lodge and were the only guests there which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were given the freedom to play our own music and design our own meals by the chef and the staff were sooo friendly and helpful. In a nutshell we had a blast and which was exactly what we needed to get away from the JHB non-stop high pace. The only let downs which really weren’t that serious was that their DSTV was faulty on such a big sporting weekend (Tennis, Grand Prix and Nedbank Final) and the looong gravel road we had to travel on to get there. PS we loved the free WIFI! lol

In Feb 2013 I booked two guests into Shakama for the long weekend in August after seeing the property and discussing a lovely romantic package with the then lodge management couple. The 50% deposit was paid in February. When I came to pay the remaining 50% two weeks before, the manager informed me that the lodge was closed to small bookings and the guests would not be able to go there. This was the most shocking news as we had not been informed and they had our deposit for 6 months. We then had to find alternate accommodation for my guests on a similar itinerary which was extremely difficult as everything was full being a long weekend, resulting in my me loosing money as I had to pay in, to get them into the only remaining lodge in the area which was much more expensive AND loosing face with the clients as suddenly their planned holiday was in a shambles. This predicament did not seem to bother Shakama. The deposit was refunded a week later after numerous desperate daily phone calls so that I could use that to pay the new lodge I had sourced. I still await the letter from management about this terrible situation we found ourselves in so that we can send to the clients.

I expected a luxury experience, which was probably the wrong thing to do, but based on the price (R2000 / pppn) that seemed reasonable. The lodge is very quaint and nice and the dinner was above average. But the lodge as a whole is nothing more than 3.5 stars and service was, on the weekend I was there, non-committal. (It was possibly because I arrived very late on a Friday night and the manager wanted to be in bed by 21:00.) Breakfast was positively disappointing, using only the cheapest products (canned juice etc) and the staff needs to learn how to make coffee. I would not go again unless it is half the price.

Between the property, the accommodations, and the staff, our stay was amazing. The property is beautiful in itself. The nature of the property, with its vast hills, provides for scenic views from virtually everywhere on the lodge. The cuisine is equally amazing; 4 course meals from a fully equipped kitchen with the chef explaining the menu prior to every dinner. The rooms were beautifully laid out, with tremendous views of the unique African landscapes of Bela-Bela. The staff was the icing on the cake; more than helpful in every aspect in-house and on game drives. Would love to go again!

We spent a lovely relaxing weekend at this lodge, the suites were lovely, comfortable chairs to sit in, king size bed with lovely linen and the whole suite spotless. A lovely private balcony with compfrtable chairs and table to sit and look over the valley. The lodge is small which gives a special ambiance. The staff were all very friendly and no matter what was requested it arrived. The chef Lindiwe was a treasure and her food was excellent. Lots of comfy sofas and books available to sit and relax as well as nice outdoor areas. There is a spa, tv room if you want to watch - no tv's in the rooms. They do game drives early morning and evening sundowner drives which are pleasant - it is not a "big Five" resort which is nice to be able to walk around the reserve. Highly recommend this lodge for a special weekend away. So many other extras like coffee/tea fruit all available on the bar. Nice selection of wines, a bit different from the usual. This is one of the best lodges I have visited and will definately love to go back . The one downside is the last 15Klms of untarred road into the resort, but we drove slowly in a normal car and it was worth the drive in.

This lodge has amazing views, amazing rooms, and amazing service. Its small enough to feel like it was our personal private vacation lodge, yet big enough that we were constantly exploring and enjoying activities. We stayed for 4 nights and five days, but could have stayed forever. The food was incredible, we left nothing on our plates with each meal. All staff members helped us to decide on and book excursions, contributing to the amazing experience. I can't wait to come back.

The lodge is situated on a hillock with an amazing view! All the rooms have excellent views as well. Impala, njala and buffalo frequently roam in front of the chalets. We enjoyed our chalet (Zebra 2) tremendously! The chalet consists of a beautiful (and large) bedroom with a small lounge area (and a fantastically-stocked minibar!). The bathroom has a big bath and an outdoor shower (really made use of the shower – great!). We sat outside on our large veranda overlooking the valley, just relaxing and taking in the views... The food at the restaurant was exquisite – the best lamb shank we have ever had! Excellent waiters and service! There are too many bonuses to mention – like the high teas, the spa, the sauna, jacuzzi and gym, the game drives, the inviting fire at the boma, the swimming pool, etc. Rather go and experience Shakama for yourself – you won’t regret it!

Stunning resort! Beautifully decorated rooms. The service is excellent with the waiters very attentive the guests requirements. The meals where fabulous! We had a braai one of the evenings, 5 star all the way! The spa experience was however, very arbitrary and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! Only down side is the poor gravel road one travels on for 28km before you arrive at the lodge
