It is so difficult to begin this review as the time at Tilodi was beyond amazing... The staff at the lodge we fantastic, the room perfect, the food hearty & the animals made the trip extra special. We stayed for 4 nights in January 2014.

We arrive at the lodge and all the people working at Tilodi were waiting for our arrival. We had travelled from the UK and were extremely tied. Having said this as soon as we entered the reception area there was a air of peace and calm. Our bags were taken to our hut and we had a welcome drink and our safari began!

The hut was well appointed considering the remoteness of the lodge (the reason why we choose Tilodi). It had a fantastic outside shower that had a small window that allowed you to look out over the South African planes - Speechless! I have had the pleasure to have some fantastic views from a bathroom but I have to say this was the best!

During our stay we had a number of Safari tours... The early evening are the best for viewing the animals and then relaxing into a lovely evening meal. I am veggie and the food was exceptional - all home-made. The knowledge of the staff especially Hendri (Lodge Manager) was perfect to help your understanding of the wildlife but without being overwhelming.

The cost of the lodge was well priced considering the accommodation, the safari's and the pure care that you receive from the team. The drinks that you purchase were also extremely well priced considering UK prices.

If you are looking for a small lodge, that is a remote paradise then book Tilodi! This was the best holiday that I have been on and I have had the opportunity to have many 5 star experiences worldwide and this has to be the best! - Thank you

What can I say. All the reviews are spot on. It was totally unexpected to see a croc at the dam. Sorry that the hippo's went to visit the neighbour's hippo's.
Willem and Philip went looking for the animals for me. I only did not see the hippo's and buffalo's. Marha made the most delicious food with her helpers.
Hendre and Benebee is the new managers at the lodge and they are planning a rehabilitation centre, so looking forward to this exiting adventure.
I will be coming back to Tilode Wilderness. Will promote them as far as I go.

Our stay at Tilodi was truly lovely. On arrival, we were met by the Owners, Johan and Nelia van Huyssteen together with the rest of the reception staff and we were immediately made to feel welcome. The entrance area is huge and forms a comfortable meeting, relaxing and reading place for guests. It overlooks a watering hole and the bushveldt and the view is spectacular.

Accommodation consists of 11 chalets and 3 Eastern Safari Tents and the chalets offer en suite bathrooms and patios with breathtaking views over the foothills of the Waterberg.

Our rate included Dinner and Breakfast and there is an a la Carte Menu for light lunches.
Coffee and tea are available throughout the day in the reception area. Meals were beautifully prepared and served in an intimate atmosphere with a cosy fireplace to provide warmth. Rates, compared with other Lodges, are extremely reasonable.

Morning and late afternoon game drives are available and we saw an abundance of bird-life, also Sable Antelope, Tsessebe, Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Rhino, Red Hartbees, Crocodile, Hippo, Ostriches, Zebra and Giraffe.

The vast expanse of 4,000 hectares of bushveldt is mindboggling and the sheer beauty of it all will take your breath away.

The first owner of the farm was President Kruger and the dilapidated remains of his former house can be seen.

Tilodi specialises in Conferences, Weddings and Selective International Trophy Hunting.

It uses sustainable hunting as a major conservation tool thereby conserving wildlife population and biodiversity in general and the owners are of the opinion that hunting bans can speed up extinction and in-breeding. The previous owners banned hunting and after three years with no hunting and related bed night income, were faced with a decision to close down the Lodge business. The closure of the Lodge would result in job losses of rural staff members and it was therefore recommended that hunting be re-introduced on a selective basis i.e. of older animals to ensure financial stability and enable the staff to retain their jobs.
This policy ensured that new blood could be introduced into the herds and thereby avoid inter-breeding. The owners regularly exchange bulls and recently introduced new Sable Antelope, Red Hartbees and Buffalo Bulls. Tilodi typically allocates a hunting quota for international hunters from the U.S.A. of 20 to 30 animals a year which is less than 2% of the total game population on the farm. With the income derived from hunting the landowners also possess a powerful economic incentive for nature conservation and are able to contribute to the local community in the form of education.

I came to Tilodi Wilderness 2 years ago for a few days and couldn't wait to return. The lodge is small and private with only 8 thatched units. The chalets are lovely and spacious and the beds so comfortable. There's a small private deck outside each chalet so you can stare into the open bush and spot the wildlife roaming around just metres from you. The main lodge is under a big thatch which lovely views overlooking a watering hole - where we saw a rhino and her calf and various buck. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and the meals very homely and delicious.

We stayed at Tilodi for a weekend photography workshop and it was fabulous! They went out of their way to accommodate us as the facilitators and attendees to go shoot the stars in the bushveld. Food was marvelous and the service was top notch. The only downside was the lack on animals and bird life but the tranquility and accommodation was wonderful.

My son booked Tilodi to host his wedding on 8th December 2014. He selected them after extensive research and visits to other venues. We have just returned from the wedding and it was nothing sort of outstanding in every respect. Tilodi is small enough for such an intimate event with there being 30 in the wedding party. For the staff at this resort - nothing is too much trouble. They have guest comfort down to a fine art. We arrived on Friday and after a great game drive we had a wonderful braai in the bona. The food, especially the ribs and giant garlic bread were scrumptious. On the game drive we saw giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, sable, waterbuck and a myriad of birds. The wedding ceremony was held in a spectacular lookout point high in a nearby kopje. The only way up was by 4x4, The panoramic view over the dam and surrounding veld was spectacular. The guests were blown away by this stunning location. The wedding couple had their photos taken in a variety of bush settings including Paul Kruger's once-hunting lodge. The reception was held in the main lodge building. Throughout the weekend, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure our every need was catered for. They're a cheerful, professional group of people. We stayed in the chalets which were very comfortable - especially the king sized bed. I would avoid the tents in the heat of summer. The food was excellent and there was more than enough to feed an army! Drinks were very reasonable priced. As a final 'personal touch' when we came to depart - all guests cars had been washed. This was a weekend my son and his lovely bride will forever cherish. The staff were just so thoughtful and accommodating and ensured that everything was par excellence! I'm also sure that many of the wedding party will return in the future. This 'little secret' venue is a gem! Thank you to everyone at Tilodi for a stunning weekend and wedding!

This was a wonderful beginning to our photo safari. The accommodations were just right for my wife and I and the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. The food was excellent, laundry was provided that made our clothes look better than new and the variety of wildlife on the property was spell binding.

I had a wonderful stay here a few years ago and was just thinking about booking another stay here but seen on their website that they have closed the lodge. The sunsets at Tilodi were incredible! All the best for the future!

This place is very ideal if you just wanna go somewhere and relax and forget about the rest of the world. The resort is situated in a very big game range and we stayed in one of the chalets there, all the chalets are separate and have decent space between them, they all have a private balcony where you can just spend sunrise and sunsets on,or just read a book to the sound of chirping birds.
The staff was awesome and made our stay very comfortable.
The manager was especially very hospitable and friendly, she is such a delightful person.

It's not necessarily the biggest or best game farm retreat. Maybe not even in the Waterberg. But it distinguishes itself in other ways. It's very homey. The rooms are spacious and well-tended, food is good, and all the staff (esp. Willem and Leah) were genuinely friendly, warm and accommodating. There are fairly decent game sightings (though it was hunting season, so animals were rightly skittish (there were numerous shots on the one day)), but the game drive is worth doing - more for the spectacular aerial views from the lookout point. And if you like Sable (I do), there's a breeding project to take a look at. Be warned though, the beds are firm. Anyway, the whole thing may be a moot point as the lodge could soon be the subject of a land claim like others in the area...so get there while you still can...

Room Tip: One of the honeymoon chalets. No. 1 (and 8?). Tents looked novel, but may be cold in winter.
