This was a walk in as I was urgently looking for accommodation for the night and discovered this beautiful lodge by accident. I had the most friendly reception from the owners and immediately felt at home. They had one room left and was immediately available. The room was in prestine condition especially taking into account I had not booked in advanced.

All rooms have great views of the ocean and one can watch the whales and dolfins from the comfort of your room or the lounge area.

The property is in a secured area so there are kilometers of safe strolls on the beach.

In the mornings a great breakfast is prepared by the owners and was very tasty.

I was sad to leave and will definitely be back.

So pleased to stay in such a fantastically presented small hotel--just 6 rooms. All rooms very comfortable and well decorated. Breakfast is fantastic. The owners do a great job in making you feel you are on holiday. A MUST to return to.

A fourth visit and still an exceptional guest house inmaculately run and maintained by Luc and Sue. Ideal for a quiet secluded break with sea views and beach. Always a friendly welcome with Sue and Luc recommending local restaurants based both on their experience and reports as well as arranging reservations. Luc's breakfasts, his omelettes particularly, are excellent. Sad to leave but look forward to future stays.

From the moment you open the patio doors and see the view, hear the sea and admire the best nature can offer you will know you have arrived somewhere truly special. This oasis of calm matched with excellent hospitality from hosts Sue and Luc really do recharge the batteries. If excellent views, spectacular nature, long walks on pristine powder sandy beaches and excellent accommodation float your boat this is for you. We can't wait to fit this into a return trip to SA in the future.

We loved this guesthouse! It is a little bit remote, but worth it! It's situated in a safety area, there is a securitygate at the entrance, and the sea is nearby. All the rooms have a very nice seaview. The first thing I saw when I wake up, was the ocean! The owners were very hospitality and proud to have this beautifull guesthouse. The room and bathroom were very clean and cosy. The best breakfast we ever had in South-Africa was here. They make their own bread. They have plenty of choice, this is very good when you stay a couple of day's. The owner gives you also advice if you search a place to eat or to see something. We had diner in Paternoster and took the gravel road between Paternoster and Shelley Point. This road is a bad way, but the shortest. It took us about 30 minutes to drive from our guesthouse to Paternoster. And I think we had better listen to the owners advice, because the food in Voorstrand was not good :(

We went for a long weekend away and chose OysterCatcher lodge due to the great reviews.
We were unfortunately disappointed as we felt the service was lacking, no one to help carry bags or assist with umbrellas in the rain. Breakfast was the same for 3 days in a row and had very little variety. St Helena Bay is industrial with nothing to do, so friendly and hospitable accommodation would be welcome. Grabbing a snack is even a challenge as one had to drive quite a distance and the only food option at the lodge is breakfast- or a packet of crisps from the honesty bar. A bowl of fruit or rusks would have been a treat.

We were quite surprised as there are no TVs in the rooms or a small bar fridge.

In summary, a very expensive weekend away for a pretty view. The price is not justified as the location only offers a sea view and very little hospitality. We have since explained our unhappiness to the hosts and hope that they can improve the lodge for future visitors. We, however, will not be returning.

Well the previous 48 reviews cannot be wrong can they? And they are certainly not.
Stayed 2 nights in April in Room 3 (or any would be just as good I'm sure). We arrived in dense sea fog, it was chilly and windy - and so it remained for both our days but we loved the place anyway. 13c compared to 31c the previous day.
Wonderful hosts Luc and Sue. Seemed as if we had known them for ever. Friendly, attentive and helpful. Nothing too much trouble.
Lovely views from the large room/balcony onto the rocks/sea. Masses of sea birds all around. Excellent large bed/pillows, good bathroom and splendid breakfasts.
We enjoyed our walks - directly onto the sea shore and around the estate (and in Velddrif ) but the only downside is that one has to travel for restauants. We ate both nights at the local Country Club which was OK but chose not to go further afield. Cattle Ranch at the Country Club not open in the evenings but good range of well prepared food in their main restauant.
A safe but no fridge in rooms but excellent well stocked honesty bar in lounge/dining room. Large TV in lounge with all sports channels etc.
The sea air, comfortable surroundings and wonderful bed provided two great nights sleep ready for those delightful breakies.
We will have to stay again - just to see what it is like when the sun shines !!!

We've been staying at Oystercatcher Lodge guest house for several years now, and always thoroughly enjoyed the experience - the setting is absolutely magical, and the comfort and standard of the rooms, the warm friendly welcome from Luc and Sue, not to mention the wonderful breakfasts are second to none.
This year, we stayed at the self-catering apartments a few hundred yards down the road as we wanted to stay for longer. We enjoyed our stay just as much, if not more. You get the best of both worlds - you still have the very comfortable accomodation, furnished to a very high standard with the same comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms you find in the guest house, the amazing views of the sea and the beach (which are just mesmorising - particularly when you get a pod of dolphins or a couple of whales swimming by!), you even still have daily maid service but you have more of your own space to chill in.
Luc and Sue go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, and will suggest dining venues and make all the bookings for you, whether you stay in the guest house or the apartments. The service is exceptional here - we can't recommend it highly enough!
