Promised Land Lodge is so beautiful. It takes your breath away. The lodge is set in beautiful tropical gardens on a cliff top overlooking the Indian Ocean. There are so many charming touches that create a very special atmosphere. The rooms are cabins in the forest. Everything is delightful. You can swim in the crystal clear waters by climbing down a stairway and entering the water. Very highly recommended!

The location of this amazing lodge will catch you off guard initially as it's a little bit distant from everything, but as you grow used to it you will discover his enormous charme and you will never want to leave. Waking up with the ocean view and its ever-changing colour and the birds chirping is all I can ask for. The bohemian decorations and the rastafari philosophy that permeate everything contribute to the magic atmosphere of the place.

Tha staff is kind and friendly and always ready to help you, not to mention the super warm atmosphere around the fire on the evenings and the stars that can be observed from one of the hammock near the reception/bar.

A total blast!

What a wonderful lodge! Great staff, clean rooms and lots of areas to relax on a hammock or swing beds and enjoy the stunning view. A lovely pool to enjoy with the kids. Food was good but extra ice at the bar for the extreme hot weather would be nice when ordering a drink. If the breakfast could change from time to time it would be nice too. Besides for the small complaints this lodge is absolutely a must!

First of all, the staff at promised land lodge are exceptionally friendly and helpful, we were asked every day of our 5 day stay if we would like our room cleaned. There is a decent selection of food available on the menu, including options for vegetarians. The location is on the sea front which is stunning, however, with the tide coming in and out, there is no beach as such. You can walk over the rock pools when the tide is out but sandals should be worn as there are sea urchins and other spiky sea creatures in the pools. You can book dolphin tours at the lodge and be picked up from the jetty there which is ideal. The accommodation was ‘rustic’ and simple, there was no kettle or aircon in the room and the power would often cut out. It is a nice place to stay if you enjoy relaxing, but there is not much else to do other than that. We walked about 1.5 miles into the closest ‘village’, however there is not much to see or do there. There are a couple of restaurants on the path leading to promised land lodge. Overall, our stay was not ‘luxury’ but satisfying, although general cleanliness of the surrounding area was not great. It

The food and views are amazing but on my first visit to their restaurant for dinner on the 8th june they had no change for USD ($2 due back) and on my second visit for breakfast on the 9th june i paid in shillings and they still had no change (8000 shillings due back). They either have a sense of entitlement or they clearly cant be bothered to ensure their clientelle get their change no matter what.

If your a walk in client take change.

wonderful place to relax. the staff is super friendly and helped me a lot with allowing me to use their own phones when i had plane issues to resolve. the guys there just have a laid back and great attitude. food was tasty and good prices for fresh seafood and had beautiful sunsets along the water. isn't the best swimming area because of the rising tides and sea urchins/seaweed, but is great to relax and get the breeze off the ocean. cool unique property though and down by the dolphin tours (and guys will come by on boats to ask you for any other tours, funny and fun experience).

We were four adults and one child traveling in April 2021 and it was a great experience. We reserved directly with the lodge and had prompt replies, helpful with airport shuttle reservation. On arrival we were greeted by the owner at the beach bar, offered a welcome drink. The rooms were big, comfortable, bathrooms well equipped. Restaurant served fresh food form a menu that remained unchanged during our 4 day stay.
Staff was always available, friendly and helpful.
Beautiful garden, relaxing atmosphere, great pool. We went dolphin watching from here, organized by lodge management.
A really wonderful experience, we would return here with pleasure.

Absolutely love this place. It has that real authentic feel of zanzibar that not too many places on the island have anymore. We stayed in the bunglow overlooking the ocean. The location of this bungalow allowed for a lot of privacy and of course amazing views. Sitting on our terrace, cocktail in hand watching the sunset was perfect. There are so many places around the bar for people to chill, activities like volleyball, badminton, play park and kayaking to keep the kids busy. The place is very well maintained and the staff very welcoming and professional. Thank u for a wonderful stay.

The view was absolutely amazing & the staff really friendly. The rooms are very close to the nature, there are no „real walls“ so you can hear every single noise from the outside. Sometimes it‘s magical and sometimes annoying, for example when a bird is being loud in the middle of the night. The is no air condition!! So if you‘re not a nature person it‘s not made for you.
The food was really delicious!
Very cute dogs!!
Still there were a few negative points. We don‘t like cats, so we definitely didn‘t enjoy the cats being sitting on our chairs and under our table during dinner.
When we arrived there was blood on our bed..
The wifi doesn‘t work in the room, only next to the bar. Our door to the bathroom didn‘t close at all.

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax then this is perfect. Only down side was no kettle in room, low water pressure & no hot water in shower.Intermittent power means that room fan doesn’t always work and room can get very warm. Lots of construction going on. Staff were exceptional. Food basic but more than adequate. Best were the prawns and fish curry.

Is there a safe in the room? If not how are valuables/money/ passport kept safe.
Answer from 4fitz
Peterborough, Canada19 contributions37 helpful votes
No room safe. Like others who responded we didn't find it a problem leaving valuables in the room. Valuables we carried were some TZ shillings and our passports which we 'hid' in the room. Cameras were just left in luggage. There was never a problem and the cleaning staff came for our key when they needed to clean and returned it right after they were finished. Leave everything else at home.
