Detailed Reviews
Be careful fellow tourists!!!!! We initially booked this hotel thinking we were going to show up in the picturesque medieval city of Rothenburg ob der Taber (After all... the trip advisor posts on here make reference to how beautiful the old town is and how you must do the walking tours! Fair enough...) HOWEVER, when we arrived here the staff had informed us that we were actually 200km away from the town we wanted to be in! OOOOPSS! How embarrassing!! But... to be fair there is a hotel Hirsch in Rothenburg ob der Taber too. We decided to spend the day here anyway and did some hiking and exploring. This was actually quite a lovely place and I'm REALLY glad we accidentally stumbled upon this town and hotel! We hiked to Hirschorn which was also, lovely and had a very old feeling!
We ate dinner at the hotel, which was absolutely delicious! Definitely the best schnitzel I have ever eaten in my life!!! We were very impressed! You can't beat the beautiful mountain views either!!! We enjoyed our stay here nonetheless. If you enjoy hiking and wilderness this is the remote place to be and a unique German experience!!

Very close to everything in the old town. Hotel features in many pictures of Rothenburg. Despite the central location, we found it quiet at night. During the day, the town is alive with tour groups and then they dissipate around 5 pm.There were nice modern features in the hotel-but no lift. Breakfast is good and English speaking was fine. Reception staff will look after your car, it does cost though. The restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent ,although closed on Mondays. Free Wifi and a 4 poster bed were welcome extras for us.

This 9 room hotel is very mcuh like a large bed and breakfast. Rooms were very spacious, great breakfast, and the owners could not be more accomodating. Parking is free as well as the internet. 100 yards to one of the gates, this hotel is very quiet. When arriving from the north, make a slight right hand turn into the parking lot and pull down to opposite the hotel walkway. Unload your car and then pull down into the second lot which is free. The map shows a road in front of the hotel, but is really a pedestrian walkway. (I learned this after driving down to the hotel). The Night Watchman's tour is a must your first night, leaves at 7 PM and it is in English.

Very friendly welcome, the whole team does its best to offer visitors a pleasant stay.
Private parking nearby and free wifi.
Spacious rooms (as well as the bathroom), perhaps a little "old-fashioned", but offering the desired comfort. There is no air conditioning.
Breakfast is varied (cold meats, cheeses, breads, fruit, yogurt, etc.). In the evening - we opted for half-board - only one menu is offered. Especially the BBQ evening was very enjoyable, a real delight. Otherwise, decent cuisine, nothing more.

Great drive up hills and forest to a very charming German town. Very helpful staff and great little restaurant, note kitchen closes at 9 on a Sunday.
Great beer and great local beer.
Also the spa has everything you could wish for!

We found some of the decor a bit quirky but there were some lovely features like stained glass in the breakfast room/bar windows. The room we occupied aspired to be romantic. It seemed to be a theme in the hotels in the town. The room was a good size (note no tea/coffee making facilities) and the bathroom was pristine if a little small. It's a little off the beaten track but it has lovely views.
