My partner's parents (who live in South Africa) booked Kromrivier a few months before we stayed here, in November. We'd been to Addo Elephant park previously, and as this was advertised as nearby, they booked a 3 night stay here for 5 of us. The place is nice, and as advertised is out in the middle of nowhere. However, for the price that was paid, this place needs a whole lot of improvements! On arrival, we were greeted by the owner, and advised we had been allocated part of the farmhouse, and the small separate cottage for our group. We were advised the front part of the house had been booked out as well, which was next door (attached) to the farmhouse. When we arrived at the farmhouse, we entered through the kitchen door, and it was like stepping back in time. We thought it added some character. Off of the kitchen, down the hallyway were 3 double bedrooms, and then a door which went into the other accommodation the other people were staying in. We found the door didn't lock, so made our own plan to ensure the guests that were staying there couldn't just walkthrough into our accommodation. Back in the kitchen, walking through the other door was a large dining room, with 2 dining tables, and then through the backdoor, into the communal area with a large braii area, tables and sofas. The communal area had an array of mismatching furniture, which is fine but was somewhat rundown, and other parts of the area were being used to store other bits, such as outside heaters, dressers, etc. On an evening the outside heaters didn't work either. The layout of the farmhouse was a bit all over the place with guests we didn't really know walking in and out of our areas. My partner and I stayed in the small cottage just up from the main farmhouse. The place smelled a bit foisty, but we discovered this was due to a used mop, so we put this outside and the smell soon cleared. The cottage itself was lovely, nice fresh bedding, large attached bathroom; however, the bathroom had no door. It had a doorway for a door, but had a folding, changing screens that we had to move each time we wantedin or out of the bathroom; plus, the screen offered very little privacy! On the 3rd night we stayed we decided to order dinner from the mainhouse, and the service was fab. The ladies set up the dining room for us, and the people staying next door on the other table. There were 3 of them, and 5 of us, and the price is per person. On the website, the price had been advertised as R185 per person,; however, the owner charged us R295 per person! When we questioned it she disregarded it. So when the food arrived, we started serving ourselves from the food dishes on our table, and soon realised we'd been given the same amount of food as the table for 3 guests next to us. Very disappointing meal, and even more diappointed we weren't given the correct amount after paying per head. The farm is also a good 45 minute drive each way to Addo Park.Make sure if you stay to bring plenty food, drink, etc with you. The view of the stars was spectacular! Amazing to watch at night, so clear. The staff were also brilliant, really friendly and very attentive. However, this place is nothing like as advertised, and was a great disappointment to the start of our holiday. We paid a similar price for our stay at another farm stay in Robertson(will be reviewing that soon) and it was amazing by comparison to this place. It needs to up it standards by a long shot, and sort it's layout out, move the junk from the communal areas and put a bathroom door on in the cottage! I'd steer clear of this place, and stay on Addo's site if you can.

Dear Big GayAI1 Thank you for your review. We appreciate all comments from our guests. We take note of your concerns and will endeavor to improve where possible and as soon as possible. We wish you all the best and trust that you are safely home Just to clarify a few points for future guests: Our price per person is below the average market price for accommodation in our area, for self catering guests as well as guests booking meals in advance, due to the fact that we renovated a farm house to give our guests the experience of Farm Life in SA and not a 5* hotel. The guesthouse layout is explained in detail on our website. A farm house that has 2 Apartments or you rent the complete house for big families up to 15 and a cottage that can sleep another 2 guests. Unfortunately the second apartment was already booked when we received the email request for this booking. (direct booking in this instance, at an even lower price than advertised) I explained to Mr Ormerod, an elderly gentleman who made the booking, that the only way I can accommodate 5 guests of which 2 wants to be placed separately, is to book the 2 guests in our newly renovated en-suite cottage and the other 3 in an Apartment that sleeps 7. He accepted my suggestion and never came back to me that they were unhappy with the arrangement as it was as we discussed. I think there might have been a lack of communication between the guests in this group.... The door separating the 2 Apartments in the passage has been secured by us. You will not see the lock from the Rhino 🦏 Apartment as it Is visible from the Zebra 🦓 Apartment. Guests cannot get entry into each other apartments at all. That is a basic requirement when renting out your facility. Each apartment has its own entrance and there is a door between the dining Room and the Rhino apartment that can be closed if other guests are in the dining room, giving everyone privacy. The entrance to the patio and dining area is from Outside for other guests and not through the Rhino 🦏 apartment At all.All apartments are for those guests only. On our website it is stated that the Dining room and Patio/braai areas are communal areas although all 3 apartments have their own fire place. Guests can request to have their meals in their apartment should they not wish to dine in the dining room with other guests. All units have a table with enough chairs in their kitchen. There is a yellowwood lounge suite on the patio as well as other seating that allows you to relax and enjoy the fire or the starry night sky. We provide knee blankets as November is already high summer by us and we find that there is no need for us to light up the heaters on the patio in summer while a huge fire is going. Should guests want the heaters on, they merely have to ask us to switch them on when the fire is started at the end of the day. My staff make sure that guests are comfortable before they retire for the evening. We gladly serve meals to self catering guests like this was and will never distinguish between our guests. Our meals are advertised as buffet style and is quality SA Cuisine with the freshest products from our garden. We prepare meals according to the number of guests and we have never before had a complaint about our portion size or the standard of our meals, rather that the food is fantastic and too much! Please refer to our ratings on Booking.com. Rates and meal rates, fluctuate during the year, as seasoned travelers will know. We state on the website and on every booking site that we and the Addo Elephant Park is situated in the Countryside. All guests should refer to google maps before making bookings, to minimize travel distances. We often find that guests book at the lowest possible rate and do not think of distance at the time they book.. The junk that is referred to, is so much appreciated by guests that has a good knowledge and appreciation for antiques and this is displayed in a dedicated corner on the patio. We invite all future guests to visit our website to familiarize yourself with the layout of our accommodation, to avoid disappointment or confusion before booking at Kromrivier Farm Stays We are extremely proud of our girls and the level of service they provide to our guests and it is good to hear that it is being noticed and mentioned, thank you food that. We urge future guests to mention any concerns or problems to us as they might appear and not only at review stage, as we will gladly assist in the best possible manner to make Your Stay Fantastic! Jenifer

We had a very nice stay in an old furnished guesthouse. The breakfast delivered to our room in the morning was "out of this world"! Well done! The barbecue area, behind the house was a bit open and windy, but we managed to make a nice "potjie".

Dear Gerard Thank you for the kind words. The farm house is over 100 years old and family history behind it is legendary. The interior we endeavor to have up to the highest standard in accommodation and we pride ourselves on that. Unfortunately the weather was very bad during your stay and not ideal for outside cooking. Next time order Dinner from the Main Farm House we serve good SA cuisine We look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future. Go well and all the best Jenifer

The farm is a beautiful location and is about 30 minutes from the gateway to Addo National Park. We were warmly welcomed, if we had any questions or concerns we could always contact the landlady. The booked food was incredibly tasty and rounded off our stay perfectly. We can only warmly recommend the farm to those who feel like peace and quiet, cosiness and a special experience.

We have been staying at the farm for three nights and it was just wonderful. As it is located in the middle of some fantastic nature one can really relax and rest. The children can play around and there is even a litlle pool to freshen up when it gets to hot. The service and the food where just perfect. We would always come back.
