Calm tranquility, healing nature! Bellevue Forest Reserve in South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape is a family-owned property comprising 2500 hectares of mountainous virgin forest with free-roaming wildlife within the Greater Addo area. Here, 165 bird species, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, eland, kudu, and other wildlife find refuge among some of the most scenic and wholesome landscapes to be found anywhere. We know you will too. A short drive from the renowned Addo Elephant National Park, guests are offered two significantly different experiences in the heart of nature – the gracious and elegant 4-star rated Elephant Lodge or the wildly romantic Stargazer Camp. The remarkably moderate climate and perfect orientation of the lodge ensures that cooling breezes keep the rooms airy, fresh, and comfortable even in the midst of summer. On hot days, a refreshing dip in our earth pool with its mineral-rich waters does wonders for the skin. Bellevue Forest reserve is more than a destination. We offer an immersive, connected experience – a discovery of the multi-faceted bounty of nature and a soul connection to the world around us. Our part of the Eastern Cape is water-scarce, and each raindrop is precious. Every care is taken to be as eco-friendly and water-wise as possible without sacrificing comfort, and to treat nature with extreme gentleness and respect. At Bellevue, we embrace ecologically friendly principles and responsible tourism for the benefit of our community, our country, and our future. We look forward to the opportunity of sharing this with you!

It is at a nice place and it looks realy good, but some things went wrong that I don’t want to recommed this place to others. I booked this spot because of the safaris and I ended doing none here. On the website they say what animals you can see during the safari so I got excited, but when I got there I got the hear the real story. Can see the lion behind a fence and can’t take pictures. Why not be honest about this before people book your place. The owner suggested doing safari at other place with 100% chance to see the lions. I found out what place he meaned and I found out he asked €100 extra just so he earns some money also. Realy bad! So people book your safari at Schotia Safari and skip this place. Also a lot extras on the end bill we didn’t do or drink, so check that also.

Response from Bellevue Forest Reserve, Owner at Elephants Lodge Bellevue Forest Reserve
Responded 1 week ago
Thanks for the review Marischaaa, we appreciate it. We would like to respond categorically; 1. You arrived at our Lodge / Game Reserve and insisted on seeing lions out of game drive times, without paying for the activity. 2. You approached and harassed our reservationist (Francis) for a cheaper price since you saw that we charge R1850 (which you did not want to pay) and thus made her believe that online we sell the tours to Addo Elephant National Park for cheaper than that, only to find out you were misleading her by not telling her that the price you saw actually was with another company and not us. Even though you knew it. 3. You asked for better prices, which I (Manager) spoke to you and said the lowest we can do is R1500 per person, since you were hell bent in getting activities for free. 4. You agreed on R1500 per person, and we dispatched our guides to fetch you and take you to the park with the hopes of seeing lions. Our Guide, Roger that introduced himself to you then shared some details of the trip and you asked him if it is a 100 GUARANTEE TO SEE LIONS ON THE DRIVE, after which he responded that there is no GUARANTEE. For other travellers reading this, you will well know that there is never a guarantee to see any animals in the wild. 5. After this with our guide Roger, you cancelled the trip again and said you would rather go by yourself. We had put time, and effort into this, yet you decided not too. 6. On arrival and prior to during the booking process our team (with proof thereof) asked you multiple times if we should arrange any of the 7 guest activities or excursions for you which you never responded on (which was 4 times) prior to check in. 7. On the Schotia trip, quite easy: we charge a transfer fee of R500 per person (round trip) to Scothia and back, which the guest also did not want to pay, yet they wanted us to drive them there for free. All in all, you our guest made the stay for all the other guests during your time really bad by beeing hell bent to either get activties and or hospitality products for free, even though you were on an extremely low package with us. You should remember, you get what you pay for. We have various packages to choose from, and choosing the cheapest does not always mean you get the most. Thank you for reading to the end, I hope and trust this has been cleared that the guest is a cheapskate wanting stuff for free.

I had the pleasure of staying here, booking via Booking.com. The price is incredible value for a 4 star Lodge. I have to say that the owner, staff, chef and experience they offer is simply amazing. I would highly recommend a minimum of 2 nights but ideally more. I can't wait to come back. Highly recommended

The rooms, staff and view is lovely. I wont recommend the place for toddlers and kids younger than 10. There is no entertainment at all for kids. The owner The deck does not have any sides so if they run they would easily fall off the sides. I would not even recommend if you planning on having a few too many drinks due to the deck. The food will not safisfy you. Its way to expensive for what you get. So if you order the food go with extra snacks. The game drive was lovely. I would recommend that.
