We stayed in the Sol studio that was warm, comfortable, and exceedingly spacious. The excellent heaters in the room and attached bath area were much appreciated onchilly autumn evenings.

Our room had everything we needed to prepare our sandwich breakfasts each of the 3 days we stayed. We especially enjoyed the garden that was brimming with flowers. At that time, the grape vines were fruiting, as well as an apple and peach tree, proving popular with the birds. Our host, Tracy, was warm and friendly, and invited us to help ourselves to the ripening apples and peaches on the trees.

The guesthouse sits in a safe and quiet neighbourhood, within walking distance of the village (10-15min stroll). For nature-lovers, the woods are closer still. Cowan's Hill track lies just 5min in the opposite direction.

Moonlight B&B proved a great base for an overnight stay in Tekapo. It's very close to the village centre (shops, restaurants, etc.) and in a quiet location. The room was very spacious and comfortable - and warm, which was much appreciated after a freezing cold night tour of the Mount John observatory. The room opens onto a cute little garden, which it was sadly a bit too cold to enjoy. Breakfast was substantial and tasty.

I'm baffled by Montykooge's review, both of Tekapo and the B&B itself. The website is very clear about what's on offer - e.g. that there is no TV in the room and breakfast is provided in the room. As for saying there's nothing to do... what?! I visited the church, had lunch at the Mount John observatory, had a soak in the hot pools plus a facial and a massage, went out for dinner then went on the jaw-dropping night tour at the observatory.

Stayed in the Sol room for one night on our way to Queenstown. Warm welcome received on arrival. Room was accessed via its own entrance and was very large with en suite, bed and breakfast table. Comfortable and warm. Walking distance to restaurants in Tekapo. No tv in room, but i pod docking station useful.

If you can ignore the tacky mis matched furniture, dogs peering into your room, lack of proper cleaning (black scale? in the kettle, dust on the bed, food stuck on the bowls) then this is the place for you. Kitchen supplies included stale bagels (thankfully I had my own bread) and cereal dumped into a container used by previous tenants. On the upside I did sleep well and bed was comfortable.

Whilst we welcome all feedback, both positive and negative, it is always disappointing when it is worded in a such a negative and unconstructive manner. We take great pride in our B&B and encourage our guests to let us know immediately if there is something they are not happy with. In this case, we are very disappointed you didn't come to us with your concerns and give us the opportunity to correct anything that was not to your liking and do all that we can to ensure you had a pleasant stay. In this case, you did not provide us with such an opportunity, we only find out when you have given a poor review on Trip Advisor. In response to your feedback, we can say this 1) our guest rooms are thoroughly cleaned and fresh linen is provided each day. If you found some dust somewhere we would have been happy to wipe it away. Tekapo can be very windy and dusty, so if a window is left open dust can blow in after we have cleaned. 2) If there were any marks on any crockery, we would have been mortified and replaced it immediately had you let us know 2) we do not serve stale food to our guests!! Our bagels are bought fresh from our local bakery daily so how they could have been stale is a mystery to us. Again, why didn't you let us know so we could replace them if that truly was the case? 3) we do not 'dump' used cereal into containers as you assert. All the breakfast supplies are freshly prepared each day for our guests 4) the kettles are cleaned and descaled regularly. Perhaps a spot might have been missed, if that's the case, it would have been no problem to give you another kettle. As for our 'mismatched' furniture, well I guess that's a matter of personal taste, perhaps if a particular style of decorating is important to you, you should carefully check room photos on websites before you book a room you might not like. Our dogs are a part of our B&B and we let guests know on our website that we have dogs on the premises. Having said this, we never let our dogs enter guest areas without guest consent and only if we are present. Our dogs are very friendly and love pats from our guests. If our dogs were outside and could see into your room and it bothered you, we would have taken them inside to our living area if you had let us know. If you do not like dogs, perhaps you shouldn't book accommodation where dogs live. On the upside, we are glad you had a good nights sleep and enjoyed our comfortable guest bed. In closing, I do note that you gave similarly very negative reviews for a local restaurant and cafe in Tekapo. The art of being a good reviewer is to be fair and constructive and before giving very negative feedback, to have given the business in question a chance to fix any problems. We are not all perfect and we try our best to please our valued customers. Most of all we value and appreciate customers who have the courage to come to us in person to share their concerns and tell us where we can improve and what we can do to make their stay enjoyable. Regards, Tracey & Wolfgang

We stayed 2 nights at moonlight, which were very peaceful. The room was spotless and comfortable. Sue made us very welcome, even making us dinner when we arrived late. It was very sweet and beyond the call of duty. Recommend highly.

We stayed in the Sol room for one night. The room was phenomenal, huge and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was amazing, and had the best shower! Breakfast was really delicious, it was a continental style (the only cooked option was boiled eggs) but exceeded our expectations - homemade bread (which was still warm), croissants, jam and honey, yoghurt, fruit salad. It was also really lovely to have it delivered to our room, which meant we could eat at our own pace. Moonlight is in a really peaceful location, though only a short walk from the lake. Sue, who was looking after the B&B on behalf of the owner, was very friendly but unobtrusive and we really valued having some time to ourselves. We wish we could have stayed longer!

We stayed only one evening at this B and B towards the end of our three week trip in NZ. Tracey was a great host, recommending activities and places to eat. Our room was very comfortable and extremely quiet (we were very tired after traveling almost 2000 miles on the south island and the Sol Room was a welcome "sancturary" for us). We would highly recommend the Moonlight...great location and wonderful breakfast. Thanks to Tracey for our lovely stay.

We had an excellent two night stay in the Sol room. As previous reviewers noted, this room is extremely spacious and was great for our familiy of three. The room has its own private entrance.

Having breakfast served in our room is an excellent idea. The freshly baked bread every morning was a highlight.

Tracey made some great recommendations of what to do and see, and her recommendations for dining options were spot on - we dined at Kohan and Mackenzies.

Would highly recommend this B&B, you will not be disappointed.

There is a 5% charge for using a credit card (which Tracey will point out to you in advance), so make sure you have cash on hand.

The location of this apartment is away from the main street and seemed to take ages to arrive at, but there is a path down to the town so it is not that far to go for an evening meal.
The room was comfortable and the breakfast food provided was adequate. Hostess seemed not to have much time for us, but there was a health problem with her partner and they were negotiating for another property so maybe we didn't catch her at the best time.

Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Moonlight :o) When you booked the room, you had indicated you would be arriving later in the afternoon and hence we had booked an appointment well before you were due to arrive. As you arrived much earlier than you indicated without giving us prior warning, we were a little bit rushed to meet and greet you due to our meeting, but I did explain that we were expecting you much later and we had to go out for an hour (but you seemed happy with this as we gave you all the info you needed to settle in and where to eat, activities etc). Not sure what you meant about Wolfgangs 'health problems', he doesn't have any as far as we know, perhaps you are confusing us with another B&B you stayed at? Cheers Tracey & Wolfgang

We stayed at the backyard at night to look up the sky and luckily we saw some shooting stars!!!
