Nice clean new looking room, proper big comfy bed with lots of plush clean pillows, nice shower with decent water pressure and reliable hot water. Finally got a bit of much needed comfort here after staying in lots of budget guesthouses, the room was pretty much at the standard you'd get back home yet still very affordable (I got it for around $50/night just after New Year). Great value for money. Pool was nice too, was able to chill and have some beers in there even past the normal pool hours thanks to the awesome manager Malin who was an absolute master of hospitality and kindness. (He also runs a private villa a bit inland at great rates called Prarthana House, great if you're staying a week or more it's like $20 a night or less and looks very nice and clean).
Location is right in the middle of the main Unawatuna beach-area street full of shops and restaurants, and a couple minutes walk to the beach itself and also near the main road where you can hop on a quick bus to Galle or anywhere else (very easy and MUCH cheaper than a tuk tuk!).

We visited Gloria Grand Hotel with a bunch of friends which was located right next to the beautiful Unawatuna Beach and this was our weekend getaway! Despite the lack of foreign tourists due to the pandemic, the hotel was functioning as usual with local tourists and the service was excellent. Even though we had a refreshing sea bath, we wanted to enjoy some relaxing time at the pool with friends and Manoj, the manager arranged it for us on our quick request! Right after we came out of the pool we were served with some mouth watering pizzas and I must say those were some of the best I’ve had in Galle! We needed more of course as we were so hungry after long walks across the gorgeous sandy beach in Unawatuna. So we requested chefs special but didn’t want a heavy meal. To our surprise the seafood pasta served with two options, tomato purée or creamy sauce, was on point! While we were enjoying our light, early dinner, we had many requests like, music, tv, photos, etc. and Manoj attend to all our requests with a smile! All in all, we had a great time in Unawatuna and I would highly recommend Gloria Grand Hotel to anyone looking for a refreshing weekend getaway!

We were happy to visit the Gloria Grand hotel. We left with unforgettable impressions, and I want to return. Thank you to the staff for their responsiveness, sincerity, understanding, and effort to make the rest better, and fulfill our wishes. In the kitchen, in the restaurant, everything is fine, the atmosphere is cozy, the food is very tasty, and every day Nalinde helped us with our small requests, making our stay comfortable and memorable. The view from the Windows is just amazing: monkeys, wurumuqi, peacocks and many other beautiful birds of Sri Lanka! The room was cleaned every day. Thank you very much! I recommend the guest to stay.

in the city center, it is convenient
we were in the suite....
no paper toilet, you have to ask to the room service.
the tub jacuzzi does not work, it is blocked and there is no hot water.
the laundry service is not good, the clothes are yet dirty and come back in the same bag.
For the breakfast: you should pay charge for having a small bottle of mineral water in order to take medicine..... and no replenishment.
several tiny spiders in the room and lizard dead for several days under the bed...
Do not book the suite and better: avoid such hotel

Response from Gloria G, Front Office Manager at Gloria Grand Hotel
Responded 25 Jan 2020
Dear Olivier, Thank you for sharing your observations. We apologize for not being able to meet and execute the level of service that defines Gloria Grand hotel. We assure you that this is an anomaly as we pride ourselves in providing flawless sense of service to each and every guest from the check in to check out. We check all rooms thoroughly before check in to make sure everything is in order and leave even an extra toilet paper roll as usual, but if you need more of course you need to ask and we are always happy to provide them needless to say. Also the Jacuzzi was working properly and only had slight water flowing from the mixer tap which was replaced immediately. The laundry we checked and we could not find it was dirty just in front of you but offered discount considering your request, also you have not mentioned about the flexibility of considering your all requests and arranged rational discount for your dinner for not having breakfast merely as a gesture of goodwill finally you had never informed us about any spiders or dead lizard in your room which we would have removed immediately and never found during room cleaning process, anyway you can find spiders/lizards in this tropical county at anytime at anywhere but we make sure to do necessary pest controlling process every month in order to avoid them to come in. Our service and our team has set us apart from all other hotels. We have achieved high ranking based on our warm welcome and impeccable good byes, so reading about your review was very surprising We consider your feedback is an experience that we have learned from and it will help us get better. Having said that, do hope you give us another chance as this is simply not who we are. With kind regards Manoj

great apartments, great location, helpful and friendly staff and a very nice owner. there is everything for a comfortable stay! Close to the sea, there are many cafes nearby. Great beach and ocean. The balcony offers a wonderful view. Living creatures do not bother. Safety is fine too. You can order delicious pizza at the hotel at a nice price =)

Chose the Gloria Grand as our base whilst attending the Galle Test Match, and it proved to be a very good decision. We booked a deluxe double room with balcony for 8 nights B&B which priced out at around £500 (you can get it for around 30% cheaper at less busy times), and also asked them to arrange an airport pick-up for us, which cost US$90.

Our trip got off to a bad start on arrival in Colombo when we found that one of our cases had not come with us (it caught up with us in the early hours of the following morning!), so were thankful to be met after completing bag trace formalities by Manoj (who is also the front office manager) for private transfer in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, which took around 2.5 hours. On arrival at the hotel we were very pleasantly surprised to be advised that we had been upgraded to their best room, the Gloria Suite, which would normally cost nearly twice as much to book.

The down-side of the Gloria Suite is that it is on the top (third) floor, and there is currently no customer lift, so clambering up and down the stairs every time we left the room was a bit tiresome, but the suite itself was great - nice big lounge/dining area and separate bedroom, which both have TV's, air-conditioning, fans, and doors accessing the balcony, and a large wet room with spa-style bath & rain-shower. The large bed was very comfortable, indeed furnishings in general were of a decent quality although overall configuration probably doesn't make the best use of the space. Tea/coffee making facilities and mini-bar were in the bedroom, where wardrobe/draw space was a bit limited, but the dining area was somewhat redundant and has lots of unutilised space & cabinets - you could easily install full kitchen facilities which would convert it to a comfortable self-catering apartment, but as things stand there are no such facilities (or even utensils) apart from a sink. Being Sri Lanka, it would be unreasonable to expect everything at a small boutique hotel to be absolutely perfect, and aside from the above we experienced a few issues with the electronic safe, and the power also cut out quite frequently, albeit only for a matter of seconds at a time.

The balcony looks out over the main road through the village to trees where if you are lucky you could watch the palm squirrels at play, whilst out of the back window you can often watch monkeys playing in nearby trees. Whilst not on the beach, the Gloria is only a few hundred yards away from it, although there are surprisingly few obvious access points without going through one of the numerous cafes, bars & restaurants that line it - Unawatuna provides lots of reasonably-priced beach-side dining options, and quality/service was very good in most cases albeit some of them can be a bit hit and miss. Buffet breakfast at the Gloria was pretty decent, if a bit limited as regards options- the hot food options weren't always as warm as we would like them, but overall it was sufficient to set us up for the day, indeed a few cricket followers not staying at the Gloria used it on occasions for breakfast, and said that their breakfast was better than that experienced elsewhere. Service was always very good and friendly, as indeed it was right through the hotel, although we only ate there on our first evening given the plethora of beach-side options to try.

After the cricket finished we were able to spend a few days on the beach, and were surprised to find that there were no formal charges levied for any of the sun-loungers dotted around adjacent to the various hotels/restaurants - only expectation was that you bought drinks from the establishment when using their loungers, but even that wasn't enforced. I got the impression from speaking to others that few of the other local hotels provided accommodation that was anything near the quality of the Gloria, yet many of them charged higher prices, probably the premium to be paid for staying right on the beach. The sand was lovely but slopes off quite steeply into the sea, and the current is fairly strong so it didn't feel very safe for swimming, but that aside we loved Unawatuna, a great place for a casual chill-out in the sun.

All in all a fab stay, and very close to warranting an excellent overall rating - would certainly have no hesitation in staying there again, and would like to thank all staff (particularly Manoj) for all their help and assistance in making our stay so enjoyable.

Wow! This hotel is perfect! The staff, led by their manager, Malim are so friendly and helpful! They are so kind and always have a smile on their face! The bedroom was a really good size and cleaned to a very high standard and I can highly recommend the scrambled eggs cooked fresh to order every morning! The hotel is in the perfect location to enjoy everything that Unawatuna has to offer and is only a short Tuk Tuk ride away to Galle which is where we spent 4 glorious days watching England in the Test Match! Going to Sri Lanka? Stay at the Gloria Grand Hotel. The staff will welcome you with the biggest welcome you’ll ever get. Thank you Malim, thank you to all the staff and thank you Sri Lanka! Here’s to the next time!

We stayed two nights in this hotel & it was a wonderful stay. Staff always do our request with a smile. Galle fort tour is one of the highlight of My tour. tuk tuk Driver Ajith was so kind & helpful.
Breakfast was ok but they had less varieties, maybe because its off season for these area. We had a minor issue about the food during breakfast but Dayas, who prepared our food came and apologised with smiles. Also, we had a dinner in their restaurant & food was ok & service is great. Waiter Chathura is really friendly with us. he arranged sandwich for me even after the kitchen closed.
Only negative comment, maybe they have to change cheap quality of Shampoo/Conditioner packets in the room.
Overall everything was fine. Hope to visit again!! ☝️😁

Very clean and comfortable room. We had a nice balcony to the street, but it wasn't loud at all. Walking distance to the beach, lots of restaurants around. The people were very friendly and we had a great time here.

It’s on the welle dewala road, which is the main access road to the beach. About 750m from main road turn off. Not difficult to find as it is facing the welle dewala road.
