Wow, this was such an amazing stay. The food is great, and there is so much to choose from! The rooms were big with huge bathrooms and the staff very friendly. Also, the patio and dining area are beautifully made and all the flowers - there were so many we couldn’t count them. The view is probably the absolute most amazing thing. aan outlook on the tea plantages with different shades of Green and mountains behind them. Great place for hiking and also for relaxing. Me, myself, I had several massages and treatments at the hotel which were amazing. I want to mention her name: Bisomenike. She has magic hands. I have never felt such warm energy in anyone’s hands ever before and she took all the time for me. This was a great experience. Besides, I want to mention Lalith. He was the waiter that served us and very kind, helpful and full of great tips and advice for the area to explore. We simply loved it here, and it would be a very nice spot to come back to.

My family and I visited The Flower Garden on our trip to Ella. We stayed there for two nights and our stay was incredible. Not only was the hotel closet by to so many sites around Ella like Little Adams Peak and The 9 Arches, but the staff was also incredibly accommodating and friendly. Shanuka a staff member I had the privilege of meeting and talking to during my stay was incredibly helpful, friendly and approachable. Shanuka definitely helped make my family and I feel at home at The Flower Garden and we will all be returning again when we next visit Ella!

We just love it here. Feels like home from home. Thank you to Sassi and his wonderful Staff. Food is excellent quality and plentiful amounts, service is excellent, very friendly people and location perfect. If you want privacy book the penthouse with your own private pool. Set off the little road that leads to the beach with plenty of eateries, shops and bars along the way. Absolute paradise ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a family holiday several times many years ago and found it to be a beautiful place affordable and clean. But this time we saw a difference in the cleanliness. They have two big dogs and they are really beautiful but needs to be bath more after or should not be in the reception area. Also the reception furniture need to be refreshed more often found it to be very dirty cushion need washing more often as it's the only area the wifi works everyone needs to sit there and you just didn't want to sit on the furniture. The cabanas were clean and inviting the two pools amazing clean and very nice. Food was great for the price you pay. Very affordable. Please don't take this to be a bad critic but to use it as a leaning exercise to up your game. Thank you for the experience. Michelle

We stayed 3 nights and it was a nice experience. House keeping were really good. Mr. Lalith helped with food. Malith helped to clean the room. Kishor helped to move our luggages. All staff is well trained and clean rooms.
Only issue was the breakfast didn’t had much variety. Every day same menu. It should have atleast hopper corner or string hoppers, omelet, waffles.
But overall it was great

I totally agree with the previous review. We also made a reservation by e-mail several months ago for a deluxe cabana, but, on arrival were told that we were a day late. I produced the e-mail confirmation but Sassi just blamed his staff, offered no apology, and had us shown to the same cupboard on the top floor as the previous reviewer. We initially took this room, but after walking down to the seafront - quite a long hot walk, we had a look at another hotel - Neptune Beach - and were offered a much better room overlooking the sea for a very similar price. We went back, collected our luggage and left, watched by Sassi smiling broadly as though he was thoroughly enjoying us leaving, still no sign of any apology.
The only thing we took with us were several mosquito bites.
Our (perhaps somewhat biased) impression of Flower garden was that it was very cramped, the cabanas are very close together, and the rooms on the top floor were a joke, the shower didn't work, the door wouldn't shut and we had to move the bed to open the wardrobe.
The rooms, facilities, position and pool were much better at Neptune beach, as were several of the other hotels on the beach front, there were plenty of sunbeds and shade if needed and easy access to all the local bars and restaurants.

Just wanted travellers to be aware that since staying at flowergarden in Unawatuna I have had my creditcard cancelled by the fraud squad. Apparently someone from Sri lanka has tried to make false transactions and access our details. The only place our creditcard was produced in Sri lanka was the flowergarden. please please be careful. I hope this thread will not be deleted as I just want to stop this from happening to anyone else. It is now being investigated fully.

Response from AndrewJo, Owner at Flower Garden Hotel

Thank you for the stay with us and we have waited so long for the investigation from your bank and also we have written somany mail to the client who stayed with us about the credit card fraud which you have mention it has been done at the Hotel flower garden and we have waited 4 years from your date of stay for the investigation. But so far we didn't get any feed back from you or from your bank. We realy 100% sure, this fraud is not done by our hotel. Bank can trace the fraud investigation within two week time from the date of stay, so we belive this review is written by a competitor or a stranger. If the client can prove this as soon as possible will be appericated for both parties. Thanking you Sassi

We just stayed for five days at the Hotel Flower Garden
in Unawatuna having stumbled on it through the Rough
Guide which in no way does it complete justice
although the review is quite favorable. The hotel is
owned, managed by M. Sassi, a charming graduate of the
renowned Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne where he spent
five years perfecting his skills. Incredibly the Rough
Guide does not mention this fact. He comes from a
family of hoteliers, his mother owns a hotel in
Columbo. The site of the hotel is quite lovely, down
a small alleyway as you arrive in Unawantuna and quite
easy to miss. It was not damaged by the Tsunami in any way that we could notice. The hotel consists of 18 tastefully
decorated cabanas with their own bathrooms and
mosquito netting around the beds. All have air conditioning. The grounds are quite attractive and very well kept, and there is a
quite large, by Sir Lankan stardards, swimming pool
which is perfectly maintained.

The cuisine at Flower Garden is out of this world. We
took the European plan and enjoyed spectacular
breakfasts with a wide variety of fruits and breads.
You can also order at no extra charge all sorts of egg
dishes with sausages and other breakfast meats. The
dinners are exquisite and taken outside along a
veranda and it was after enjoying two of these meals
that we realized that Mr. Sassi must be European
trained. The attention tocolor, nutritional, and
aesthetic balances of the flavors of the dishes cried
out that he had received very serious training! The
cuisine is European and a welcome break from the
relentless rice and curry of Lankan restaurants.

Mr. Sassi has collected about him an absolutely
charming staff that are eager, kind, speak English
reasonably well, curious about their guests, and
incredibly hospitable. He also arranged a driver to
take us to our next stop, Haputale, about six hours
away. The driver was a mature man who drove extremely
carefully in a large van which was a relief given the
hectic, to put it kindly, Lankan roadways. The hotel
will also send a driver to pick you up at the airport
if you so choose.

The hotel is about a ten minute walk to the beach or a
one minute tuk-tuk. We enjoyed the scuba diving and
beaches and the loveliness of the Flower Garden Hotel.
We highly recommend it. And at about $50 per day for two people including breakfast and dinner, it is a real bargain.

We spend about a third of the year traveling throughout the world and have found this to be one of the best value and charming establishments we have found.
