Lovely hotel, just a step back from the main road through Unawatuna.
We had the warmest of welcomes from the owners who presented us with welcome drinks and cooling towels.
The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was spotless with lovely fluffy towels. It was serviced daily.
The bed was comfy with quality linens and pillows making for wonderful sleep.
The aircon and fan combined made for a really comfortable temperature and air quality. It was quiet at night.
Breakfast was excellent and the service standards were very high.
There were fresh supplies of coffee, tea and water in the room daily and if there was anything we wanted we just had to ask and it was attended to immediately.
I had a load of laundry done. I handed it over at breakfast and it was ready for us in the evening.
Security was good and we felt that we and our possesWe could sions were safe at all times. The safety deposit box was secure and worked well.
We really appreciated that the property had a lift.
The TV in our room had good reception.
All in all this hotel is of the highest standard and we were treated like kings by the staff. We could recommend it to anyone.

We are backpacking around Sri Lanka so only stayed in Unawatuna for 3 nights, if we had been staying in this hotel for the duration though I would've been more than happy. We had been travelling Sri Lanka for one week by the time we arrived at this hotel. We arrived on tuk, tuk from Marissa where we had stayed in a guest house. We arrived with big heavy backpacks on our backs to a lovely glass of fresh orange juice and a cold flannel. The gentlemen that greeted us was very welcoming and helpful, we had not booked breakfast here as we prefer to check out local cafes and restaurants, he was more than happy to point us in the right direction and mentioned they offered it also but didn't try to push it in any way. Now for the room.... the best we have stayed in while we've been here. We have just checked in to one today in Hikkaduwa that is the same rating and it seems a much lower standard in comparison. The rooms at Heaven by O are perfectly clean, big comfy beds, soft pillows, fresh fluffy towels with a very clean modern bathroom. There is also a fridge, safe, hairdryer and close horse/washing line in the bathroom so we managed to do some washing as we will be travelling for two years. The couple that run the hotel are so lovely and very accommodating, they also speak perfect English. They are more than happy to help, my fiance had twisted his ankle the day we arrived, the lady who runs the hotel was more than happy to offer ice packs and asked how he was getting on every day. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
As for location, it was perfect, all the bars and restaurants are in perfect reach then the beach is a short 5 minute walk.
As for what to do if anybody is wanting suggestions, we took a trip to Dallawa beach (not as nice as the beach just round the corner) however it was on the way to the turtle hatchery we visited. We had done our research before visiting and we would recommend 'Koggala sea turtle farm and hatchery', they rescue injured turtles and nurture them back to full health before returning them to the wild. We paid to release turtles too which we loved. Tip, if you visit this one we would recommend staying on this part of the beach after, maybe take some snacks as there are no restaurants but it's beautiful there's just a few hotels further up but it's so quiet, we practically had the beach to ourselves it was incredible and so beautiful.
While in Unawatuna we also visit Galle Fort which is well worth the visit. We only spent an afternoon and evening there, the full day would have been too much for us. The streets are very pretty, unfortunately it was too cloudy to see the sunset as we know it is a popular place to watch it from there. We sat by the field at around 4-5pm when all the locals must be finishing work at coming in to enjoy there evening. It was lovely people watching, children were playing cricket and families had taken picnics.
As for places to eat we would recommend the society for breakfast and bedspace for dinner. Bedspace is the most expensive meal we have had in Sri Lanka but 100% worth it. We paid £40 for two starters, two main meals, two beers and two cocktails (so still cheap in consideration but just the most we have paid so far). Our only other piece of advice is barter if jumping in a tuk tuk, it's hard because they are so cheap but they start higher than what they expect anyway so help our fellow travellers out by doing this.
Enjoy! Sri Lanka is my favourite country, the people are the friendliest.

HEAVEN BY O – UNAWATUNA -Stayed between 17th and 21st September 2018

By way of background, my wife and I visited Sri Lanka from 7th September to 27th September 2018 to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. This was our first visit to Sri Lanka but will certainly not be our last. We booked the trip independently including travel between the different venues. The accommodation under review was selected following research on this site and other recommendations on various web blogs.

We arrived at this hotel late in the afternoon having travelled from Ella by “taxi” / hired minivan and driver. This was our most costly outlay for transport but the quickest when considering bus etc.
We were welcomed by Bhawantha and Wasantha and shown to our room. The hotel currently has eight rooms and throughout our stay there appeared to be only two other guests staying.

The hotel appears to be managed by Bhawantha, who is responsible for day to day admin and is keen to advise on the local area and attractions to visit. He is assisted by Wasnatha and Kanthi who provide the breakfast and cleaning duties. Breakfast is a simple but adequate selection based on western palates. However, we prefer to try local food and Wasantha and Kanthi were delighted to provide curry and string hoppers during the rest of our stay.

The hotel is ideally located a short distance from the beach. As described by previous reviewers, It’s clean, well maintained and very comfortable and at a good price. i understand there are plans to extend the hotel which will include a swimming pool.

This hotel is a must stay for us. It rightly has top place on this site for places to stay in Unawatuna.

We found throughout our trip that it was the local people that made our holiday so memorable. In the case of Bhawantha, Wasantha and Kanthi they are lovely people that make you welcome and are eager to ensure you have a good stay. We wish them well and hope to see them in the future.

While in Unawatuna we visited the following Restaurants:

“This is it” (Next to or part of - Samson’s Seafood) – On the beach – late evening - Good rice and curry cooked to order. Enjoyed food – visited twice. Worth a try.

Jinh Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant – Overrated restaurant – poor food and not worth the money – avoid.

The Roti Shop – Ok for a snack - food was good but not exceptional. Would visit again.

Toddy by Hope. On the beach – Good Coffee served in Cafetieres

We also visited the Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya Temple and then Galle using a tuk tuk which cost 400lkr one way.

My fiancé and myself stayed here for our last three nights, and what a lovely family run hotel it is! My favourite hotel we stayed in...rooms are a great size, bathrooms were a good size too.
The breakfast put on in the morning was fantastic and the family/owners of the hotel were very welcoming and always on hand.
Walking distance from the beach. I really love Unawatuna and this hotel was perfect.
Highly recommend and great value.

We stayed here for 7 nights, we had never been to Sri Lanka before so picked this Hotel purely on its Trip Advisor reviews! It was such a good find, so clean there was never a speck of dust in the room, they were cleaned thoroughly daily, Breakfast was very nice, lots of choice. It is close to the Beach but as it is off of the main road it is lovely and peaceful, the balcony of the room overlooks lovely Jungle views where we saw monkeys, chipmunks and Fruit Bats. The owners are amazing people, so Kind and thoughtful, nothing was too much trouble and the staff are super friendly and helpful, they even got up at 3am to pack us a little breakfast one morning when we went on a trip.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Hotel to my friends and family and would love to visit again.

This hotel is run by a highly educated and well travelled family who understand what their quests require so with the help of the staff the hotel meets all expectations, nothing is a problem and every question is answered with help and a smile, the rooms and amenities are spacious and clean and the hotel is close to the many restaurants in the area. The highlight of our stay was to sit out on the balcony and watch the amazing local wildlife every afternoon and it is only a short walk to the beach a must stay in Unawatuna.

Stayed here for one night only, the room was very clean, had amenities such as tea and coffee and exceptional wi-fi. The location is just off the main strip so quiet yet central. The breakfast was very nice and western, probably the best omelette I have had in Sri Lanka. Very new hotel which I would strongly recommend staying in.

Thanks for a lovely stay.

My 19 year old daughter and I spent 3 nights here and loved it. It is a small family run hotel. As such they actually make you feel part of the family. Helpful and always ready with a hello and smile. The location is perfect. While not right on the beach it is only a 5 minute walk and the hotel provide beach towels. The rooms are new and clean and bed very comfy. Has good free wifi and a delicious complimentary breakfast each morning made to order. The owner also has great advice about where to eat which was helpful as there are so many places to eat here it can be overwhelming. Also have book exchange so read a novel while here as well. Lastly it had very affordable rates especially considering its high season and places nowhere near as good as this are charging far more. We would definitely stay here again.
