......we were awakened at around midnight by the sound of munching outside the lodge! Who knew that hippos graze the whole night in the shallow waters of the Nile. At Bakers, you are privileged to watch them at night from the comfort of your lodge and during the day lounging in the Nile from the terrace. What an amazing place. From the moment we arrived, we were thoroughly spoilt by the wonderful staff. The lodges are all separated giving the feeling of privacy and an unspoiled view of the Nile. They are equipped with everything you need and are furnished beautifully. Meals are served in the main central area and tea and coffee are available all-day via a self-service area. The food was simply delicious and we were seated in a different place each time to give us all possible views. When we wet out for our day trips a picnic basket with coffee and snacks went with us. As we were there for Christmas day we were treated to a fabulous buffet with champagne, party games, singing, dancing and upon arrival back at our lodge a gift on the pillow. We had the most amazing time and would like to thank everyone at Bakers for making it so special.

We spent three nights here. Everything was thought of to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We appreciated our cottage being totally solarpowered and being able to charge by USB and access hot water and electricity at all times. No other plugs though. There are plenty of charging points in the dining area, available at all times. Even the key had a decent torch attached to it, although staff accompany you to and from your cottage after dark.
We particularly liked that the front “wall” was made ot tent meshing. There was an option to roll down the canvass and draw curtains but it was lovely not to do so to allow the cooler air in and look out into the grounds of the lodge. There is a ceiling fan.
Be aware that hippos graze around the cottages at night. Absolutely no problem. Indeed, they came around the dining area after dark too and were relaxed about grazing there, so long as they are not disturbed.
The staff are wonderful. All are warm, engaging, helpful and efficient and the food is excellent. Free tea and coffee are available all day
Free laundry was included in our full board tariff. A real plus.
The lodge is in beautiful surroundings, overlooking the peaceful, River Nile. Indeed, Murchison Falls Park is really beautiful. Be aware, there is definitely game and birds to be seen but they are not as prolific as in other parks in Africa. This is more than made up for by the beauty and emptiness of the park. Definitely worth doing boat trips on the river and visiting the top of the falls too.

It is only half finished so if you're unlucky they will put you up in a tent instead of one of the few cabins available. Our tent lost electricity for 2 days out of the 3 we were there. The toilet wouldn't flush so it smelled like a sewer. The light switches and handle to operate the shower were way too high for a short person. The jug of water they gave us for washing our hands and the water in the toilet was the color of urine and had little bugs floating in it. No mosquito netting was provided (the cabins had it though) so expect to get bitten or have to fumigate your tent. People in the cabins were given a whistle on their key and a portable siren in case of wild animals or emergencies. Nobody in the tents received such items - I guess they didn't care about our safety at all. We were told we needed an escort at night but there's no phone to call for one and after dinner none of the staff was available to escort us. Worse place we ever stayed at on our many trips to Africa. They should have never opened up to the public until they were fully operable. When we complained to the staff we just received a flippant, "It's just the luck of the draw." Staying in their tents is like living in the slums.

Wow, I loved the place!! It was everything I hoped it would be when I was told about it. The welcome from the staff was very kind and friendly. We also had a 'briefing' on general safety while we were there. Thank you Bernard.I loved the quietness after a long day driving. We were met with cold drinks and flannels just as we got out of the car, unbeatable service!! The restaurant/sitting area has settees & soft chairs to sit on. A very chilled place. My hut was across a small bridge onto a clearing of 3/4 other huts and an amazing view of the Nile. The inside was done to a very high specification, very well designed and thought out, especially the little touches that make a stay special and memorable. The first thing I did was change into the robe provided, sip a cold beer and gaze out across the river listening to the sounds of Africa, truly magical. The night brought the hippos close to camp. The camp staff were on duty with torches and showed us them from a safe distance. The food was amazing and the camp fire on the edge of the river was great. We had a boat ride for 3 hours the following morning which took us close to Murchison falls. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the animal, birds and the river. We saw hippos in the wild, elephants, crocodiles,a wonderful variety of birds and of course the mighty Murchison falls. We finished our time there with a swim in the pool. Now that was luxury in the bush!! Would I stay there again???? Absolutely! I would highly recommend Bakers Lodge.

Baker's Lodge is a luxury lodge so our expectations were very high. And it was one of the best lodges we stayed in during our trip through Uganda! Service and friendliness of the staff was excellent, choice of lunch and dinner very good with an vegetarian option. Soft drinks and beer were included. And of course a perfect setting at the Nile. Boat trips (Murchison falls and Baker Delta) started at the Lodge so we had no travelling time, only thing is that for game drives we had to cross a river with a ferry so it takes some time before we could start our game drives and the last sail is at 19.00. You don't want to miss that. We had a wonderful stay at the lodge, two minor things: the fan on the ceiling was not sufficient as it was very warm (even during the night) and the chairs on de veranda almost fell apart. Some deckchairs would have made it perfect.

I stayed in this luxury lodge for 8 nights in July and can confidently say that it’s one of the most beautiful and special places I have ever stayed. I had travelled to fish for Nile Perch and take a Game Drive, both of which were amazing experiences. I was fortunate enough to land three Perch all of which were a good size, much of the credit goes to my expert guide Tim, from Baker’s who went out of his way to make sure I caught. Not many people on a Game Drive have had the experience of watching a leopard then a hyena in the day time, but this was just another very special highlight from my time at Baker’s. On my arrival from Kampala I was greeted by three members of staff one of which was the Manager (Bernard) who welcomed me, my baggage was taken to my cottage, I was offered towels and refreshments – really appreciated after the long journey! The management of Baker’s should be very proud of their staff, they are genuine, caring and nothing was a problem during my stay – for me the staff made my trip so special, thank you all! The layout and design of this lodge is exceptional, much care has been taken to make sure the environment hasn’t been impacted, which is special in such a beautiful location, I don’t think any guests will be disappointed. Each lodge is similar in design and construction, with a high-quality of finish, all will deliver a very personal experience with the Nile. The main reception has a bar with many relaxing areas, all under a beautifully hand-crafted thatch roof, it’s spacious offering fabulous views of the Nile. A number of dining areas are available and staff will give you the opportunity to eat in as many as possible during your stay – candlelit five course meals, a glass of wine all while watching Hippos and Crocodiles lies ahead! The newly constructed swimming pool was a bonus, it provides an excellent opportunity to relax after a long day in the sun. I can totally recommend this exclusive lodge; it’s quiet, exceptionally well designed, highly finished and offers wonderful food - Baker’s will deliver an intimate experience with the Nile and the National Park that would be hard to repeat!

In every respect an excellent lodge: Staff, room, food, every thing perfect. From your tent and fro the dining area you are overlooking the Nile. Very special: falling into sleep by the sound of grazing hippos.

I went on a safari in Uganda and stayed at a number of parks and lodges. Out of all of them, Baker's lodge and Murchison Falls were my favorite. Baker's Lodge accommodations were outstanding--they were roomy, furnished beautifully, and had a "safari" feel to them. Furthermore, the location was perfect, right on the Nile--when we arrived in the evening, there were a number of hippos on the riverbank in front of our lodge. But what made this lodge truly the best, were the staff. They arranged our activities, took care of our every need, always smiled, cooked delicious meals, and packed the best lunch we had for our departure (they offered the lunch, whereas we had to ask at the other lodges). I would like to commend our staff: Managers--Bernard, Keseloni; Waiters--Noredah, Erastus, Charity; Chef--Charles, Michael, Irene, Lawrence; Security--Colbert, Herbert, Robert, Patrick and Okello (they walk you to and from your room at night). As an added note, saw three Shoebill Storks!
