Spent two nights here whilst touring Battlefields area. Very basic room, but clean and comfortable. Bathroom small, we had a problem with hot water on one morning. The hotel is used for weddings and events, it is a little run down but the animals roaming around outside make up for its lack of presentation. Food was good, drinks very cheap even better!! We had a fire pit on our second night, then our group had dinner in a separate dining room which was very nice.

We spent two nights at this lodge as part of our tour of the nearby battlefield sites. We were not sure if we were staying in converted barracks, it certainly had that feel about it, either that or 1960s holiday camp. The dining area is rather rustic, with limited choice, but fortunately this is reflected in the very reasonable cost for food and drinks. We had heard that the lodge is frequently used for corporate events, as a result you have to go to reception and pay a deposit on items such as hair dryers and pool towels, due to such items ‘disappearing’ in the past. I expect this would include umbrellas, we experienced a rain storm on our second night, and got a soaking walking to and from the dining area/reception. The lodge is conveniently placed for the battle sites and also the Talana museum, which is well worth a visit. I would concur with other reviews, that the receptionist could do with some customer care training; the resident ginger cat had more charm.

Arrived, at reception was a very pregnant girl which was not friendly. Silo which I booked was clean and so was bedding and towels, only problem we had one towel, which I shared with my husband 🤭. Went down to Sports Bar for drinks and dinner, which was very pleasant and friendly staff. Unfortunately at my age Im beyond little screaming kids which were running around everywhere between restaurant tables and up and down staircase. When we returned back to the room, found out that only 4 TV stations were working, 2 African, 1 Sport and then MNet. We just got into bed then african girls started with a disco in little gathering place across from our Silo. Phoned reception to complain, 40 minutes later it went quiet. Breakfast was fine. ON RETURN FROM Bloedrivier festival , TV was still not tuned in, we eventually got 2 towels, kids were still over the place at dinner. I eventually left dining room, leaving food behind. Other diners were horrified but finished their food. Unfortunately my experience was by far not even average it was BAD. Never met the manager or wife, were not even introduced.

Clean bedroom, good hot shower, regular towel change. Restaurant service was very slow but they did cater for gluten-free, and drinks were cheap. The wifi was appalling - you were given a voucher but it ran out almost as soon as you started using the wifi. When we came to check out we encountered the most miserable surly receptionist that we have come across in years. Not a good advert for a hotel. Seeing ostriches, zebras and springboks in the hotel grounds was a bonus.

The room we had was very dark and drab and rather uninviting it was sparsely decorated and a little grubby. The location was very nice once outside but the rooms had no view as such. No other places to eat locally, all the food we had here was cold and not presented very well, sevice was rather slow and tables were not cleared promptly. Enjoyed having a beer overlooking the lake and watching the weaver birds build their nests.
