If you take the road from Cape Town in a northerly direction and drive for just under three hours, you will discover an oasis of luxury, comfort and warm hospitality on the West Coast - Grootvlei Guest Farm. Grootvlei Guest Farm is situated 6km from the charming fishing village of Lamberts Bay with its moderate climate all year round. It is within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean and its long, uninterrupted white beaches. During the flower season from July to early October each year, the area is covered with a tapestry of brightly coloured wild-flowers. Conservation of the dune vegetation has seen the return of small game and you will notice their footprints around the buildings. You may even spot a duikertjie or other buck on an early morning walk. Birdwatchers will have a field day spotting a large variety of birds, and if you are lucky, you may see Heaviside's dolphins, whales and seals frolicking in the blue waters a short distance from the beach.
Experience of a lifetime. I highly recommend Grootvlei. The property is well maintained and built in such a way that it mimics the shape of a sea shells.
The view from the main property on the dune allows for breathtaking sunsets while enjoying your favourite drink.
The kids absolutely loved exploring what the rock puddles had to offer which gets exposed during low tide.
Grootvlei/On The Dunes will see us again soon.

We booked Grootvlei Guest Farm for a Valentine’s getaway, and it was the perfect choice. Nestled right on the beach, the location is simply breathtaking. We stayed in the honeymoon suite, which offered a private, all-inclusive space—unlike some of the other accommodations that share communal areas such as the kitchen, dining room, and lounge.
Traveling as a couple with a child, our stay was nearly flawless. My only minor critique was having to make up the child’s bed ourselves.
The breakfast was enjoyable, with a good selection, but given the 4-star rating, I would have appreciated the inclusion of some fruit and pastries to enhance the experience.
The manager, Martin, was an absolute delight. His warm hospitality and passion for the property were evident as he shared exciting plans for future upgrades and expansions. The guest farm is clearly positioned toward the higher-end market, and it delivers with luxurious touches that make the stay feel special.
Another major perk is the convenience—just five minutes from Lambert’s Bay with its variety of restaurants and right next to the award-winning Muisbosskerm. It’s an ideal destination for those looking to unwind in comfort while enjoying the beauty of the West Coast.
We look forward to returning in the future!

We have a bit of a bias towards Grootvlei, we got married there in 2021 and fell in love with the place. So for our 3 year anniversary we returned with our 1 year old to see if it was as we remembered. We booked at Die Duin, or the dune side on the sea, it was just like we remembered and it was such a lovely weekend. That's the thing about the west coast, the calm sea breeze over the cold ocean cools everything down to a nice 22°C while just a few km's away inland, Vanrhynsdorp was a blistering 45°C.
We did self catering and all the facilities and amenities required are available, braai's outside and inside, inverter and solar installed and nothing was required. The rooms are spacious with it's own little stoep (verandah) with table and chars. The king size bed was comfy with a firm mattress. Our room had a shower while one of the other room had a shower and bath.
We will definitely be back again, it is a very special place and just as special as the first time we were there.
PS, I see one keyboard warrior cried crocodile tears about children not being welcome. I suspect her partner wanted an alone breakaway and made that story up - kid are definitely welcome.

We originally had from today Booked one night tomorrow and also paid in advance. Arrived there around 13h00 from Stellenbosch. No one on the ground. Reception unoccupied. Searched the premises and found employees who pointed to lunchtime. We just went out of our way again and let us be pampered at the nearby Outdoor Restaurant Muisbosskerm. Sensationally good.. always worth a trip. At 15h00 again to the Guesthouse. Reception busy. Service so unfriendly. Keys received and driven to the beach room. Room small, dark with barely any sea view. Price ZAR 1900.—. Nobody in the facility except us. In short, we packed our things, returned the key and drove back to Stellenbosch again 3h15. Conclusion: Lambertsbay: ja Muisbosskern: absolutely... this Guesthouse: definitely not again Urs&Patrizia

I've been there for two weddings so far and wouldn't mind if all my future weddings were held there! The scenes on the beach, the pre dinks with the view and then the dancing and good vibes with family and friends at the main venue - all superb! The accommodation was also very neat and perfectly suited to our needs.

Disappointed with location as was across the road with no direct access to the beach through the dunes. Was not in town so quite a way from restaurants for dinner. Property was uninviting but room was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was served at 8am which is late when travelling. Staff were friendly.

The first time we visited Grootvlei was for a family wedding. This time we went with a group consisting of friends and family and wow what an amazing long weekend. The location is ideal, right on the beach with no other houses in sight. The little ones could roam free and the adults could relax around the braai with a beer in hand and enjoy the magnificent views. Sunset here was exceptional. I cannot recommend this place enough!

What a beautiful setting on the dunes, overlooking the Atlantic, endless stretches of white sand and rolling waves! Ideal for weddings, whether small or big, or just to enjoy a peaceful break with family and friends. We have stayed at the more intimate accommodation next to the sea, as well as at the excellent modern guest house , surrounded by indigenous fauna and flora. A perfect combination of natural beauty and comfort. Grootvlei Guest Farm is a great stopover when touring the West Coast during the flower season, as we did.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite at Oppiduin for 2 nights and loved it. The location and the view form the suite could not have been better. Everything was clean and the communal area is equipped with everything you may need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast is served at the main guesthouse and is very good. Highly recommended!
