If you take the road from Cape Town in a northerly direction and drive for just under three hours, you will discover an oasis of luxury, comfort and warm hospitality on the West Coast - Grootvlei Guest Farm. Grootvlei Guest Farm is situated 6km from the charming fishing village of Lamberts Bay with its moderate climate all year round. It is within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean and its long, uninterrupted white beaches. During the flower season from July to early October each year, the area is covered with a tapestry of brightly coloured wild-flowers. Conservation of the dune vegetation has seen the return of small game and you will notice their footprints around the buildings. You may even spot a duikertjie or other buck on an early morning walk. Birdwatchers will have a field day spotting a large variety of birds, and if you are lucky, you may see Heaviside's dolphins, whales and seals frolicking in the blue waters a short distance from the beach.

Disappointed with location as was across the road with no direct access to the beach through the dunes. Was not in town so quite a way from restaurants for dinner. Property was uninviting but room was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was served at 8am which is late when travelling. Staff were friendly.

We spent a night in the On The Dunes honeymoon suite. Great quirky seashell-studded architecture (the sky-lit shower is not to be missed) and everything was very neat and functional. The wood stove was a treat in early spring, and the beach setting terrific. The place thrives as a wedding venue, so we were grateful that there were few other guests as the suites adjoin each other around a communal area. It would be a great place to book out for a family or friends gathering. Breakfast back at the farmhouse was great, and the excellent service and hospitality much appreciated. The famous Muisbosskerm seafood restaurant on the beach is close by but only open for lunch at present, so plan accordingly. We will definitely go back.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite at Oppiduin for 2 nights and loved it. The location and the view form the suite could not have been better. Everything was clean and the communal area is equipped with everything you may need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast is served at the main guesthouse and is very good. Highly recommended!

The wedding on the beach was breathtaking, the accommodation was clean and Theresa did her almost best to certify us. The atmosfeer is very relaxing and you could feel the love and happiness there. I would recommend people to contact them and go and experience the joy we did. Thank you Theresa and staff.

We got married at Grootvlei Guestfarm beginning of August. Edmund and Theresa went out of their way to make our stay as lovely as possible. We had e beach wedding and used the Oppiduin Venue. Enough space to accomodate up to 60 guests. We had guests in the birds nest, the guesthouse, the house and the dunes. All lovely places to stay. Best sea view you get when you use the accomodation on the Dunes. Guesthouse is very comfortable in winter time with the electric blankets. Superb breakfast each morning and the most friendly staff. Grootvlei, thanks again for hosting us at our most special day!

We stayed at Oppiduine in rooms 2 and 3. There were no other guests so we had the communal kitchen, dining, sitting room for ourselves. It will not be nice to share this with unknown people as it is right next to the rooms and impossible to use without being in one another's face. The rooms are fine although the shower in room 3 is extremely small and uncomfortable. Not great sea views from these rooms. You have the beach to yourself. We had breakfast at the guest house and it was good. We found the staff friendly and talkative.

Stayed at Oppiduin. The building is clad in strips of wood painted white and cement walls are decorated in the most beautiful way with shells depicting flowers. What a lovely place to just relax and be on the beach and go to sleep hearing the waves and waking up to hear them again. Magic!

This is a family farm that morphed into an events facility. Main house has plenty of charm and a very hands-on host who has done most of the development work himself. In a lovely secluded setting, a short drive to Lambert's Bay. Very quiet, but can imagine that is not always the case. Be sure to take in the lunch or dinner across the road at open-air restaurant Muisbooskerm, as well as the bird sanctuary in downtown Lambert's Bay. Grootvlei has a private beach which is very nice, and an additional sleeping facility right on the beach.
