The Danna Langkawi is celebrated for its vibrant and opulent atmosphere, often enriched with live music and elegant decor. Guests commend the service as exceptionally warm and attentive, though a few note occasional delays. The luxurious and spacious rooms earn high praise for their views but aren't without the odd mention of cleanliness or soundproofing concerns.
The hotel's amenities, including a sumptuous pool, diverse dining, an acclaimed spa, and a private beach, are consistently lauded. While the hotel is deemed good value for money, some guests point out the steep food prices. Its tranquil location is perfect for scenic relaxation, albeit slightly secluded.

Our 3-night stay at The Danna was one we'll never forget. It was spectacular! It was our anniversary trip, and it was just perfect. The staff are very friendly, extremely service-oriented, and very engaging. From the moment you arrive, you are pampered and spoiled. We stayed in one of their Grand Viceroy Sea Rooms which had a huge private balcony we enjoyed during the day and at night. The room itself was huge, and the shower in the bathroom was soooooo nice. The hotel is very clean. My husband enjoyed a spa treatment. The poolside service is spectacular. It's right by the beach which was very clean and beautiful. Langkawi is beautiful, and staying at The Danna just made it all the more wonderful. We'll definitely go there again.

We recently stayed at the Danna for 4 nights and it was absolutely perfect. We upgraded to a 5th floor sea view room when we arrived and it was worth every penny. All rooms are large but the views differ depending what side of the hotel you are. The room had a bath ( overlooking the sea), a rainfall shower, two sinks and the most comfortable super king size bed.
The position of the hotel is not one of the best in Langkawi but the service puts it above any other hotel we have stayed in ( we have stayed in lots of 5 star hotels) and would definitely return.
Food and beverages are expensive for Malaysia but it we couldn’t fault our meals at Planters and the Terrace which were exceptional and prices were probably on par with uk prices. They have happy hour (50% off) between 5-7pm and 10.30pm - 1.00 am so there is plenty of time to drink at reasonable prices.
The hotel is situated next to a marina where there are a few shops and restaurants but it is run down with quite a few outlets are closed . However we did have a lovely meal in the Italian restaurant there one night.
The pool is enormous ( 52 m wide) and plenty of sun beds, with excellent pool service. They even come around and clean your sunglasses!
The beach by the hotel is pretty and quite private. Drinks were served to you there too .
The hotel is only about 5 minutes drive from the cable car so we took the opportunity of doing this one morning organised through the hotel and would highly recommend it.
I am writing this review from another hotel in Langkawi where we went to after our stay at the Danna. Whilst we are now staying in a hotel that definitely is situated in a more stunning location we are missing the exceptional service and food that we had at the Danna.

Our daughter had stayed at The Danna and said it was ‘the best’. We were happy to try it particularly as we reserved a lovely suite for a competitive price, but having stayed in quite a few hotels weren’t sure how it would stack up. Well it really is one of, if not ‘the best’ places we have stayed. Yes, you can argue that there are better beaches on Langkawi, although the one at The Danna is lovely, the elegance of the hotel, the location of the hotel (not too far from anywhere) the food, the Spa service and overall staff service more than compensates. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed with broad smiles, welcoming drinks, towels and massage easing our travel weariness. Everywhere you go and for our entire stay we were greeted with friendly smiles, a can do attitude, little ‘surprises’ (sunglasses cleaning and more!) and a genuine interest in ensuring your stay in Langkawi is great. The place is extremely clean, has a great gym, spa, pool and at all restaurants are of a high standard. A couple of issues experienced during our stay were rectified with caring and efficient staff assistance. We booked a number of excursions with the concierge desk and staff not only remembered them but had towels and water ready for us to take with us on our journeys! We were farewelled when we stepped out & warmly welcomed upon return - it really felt like returning ‘home’ to friends. A wonderful experience at The Danna contributed to a fabulous Langkawi holiday.

This is a truly beautiful hotel and we’re already planning to return. I deliberately selected The Danna here to celebrate a shared family Christmas based on one review I came across but what I didn’t appreciated is just how wonderfully they did celebrate it.
Although very glamourous in its design and décor it maintains an authentic ambience. Staff are genuine and so kind, other patrons are culturally accepting and although I wasn’t sure how “family friendly” the place would actually be I had no reason to worry. We had a 7 and 5 in our group but they were happily entertained. The pool area is shared but the tiered depths and the side set spa area make it friendly for families and couples alike to find their own space with no crowding even when full.
Kids club was open from midday to 8 pm this allowed family time in the morning with respite from the hottest part of the day as well as allowing the adults the option of a kid free lunch or dinner. Kids club was mostly craft or game orientated play with some movies scheduled from 6 pm. On Christmas day the kids were able to decorate gingerbread houses with the chefs themselves. At the different meal times, staff provided the kids with fish food to allow them to feed the numerous koi in the various ponds which became a fun task
Overall the food was delicious and caters for such a wide range of tastes and cultural needs. Christmas Eve buffet was sumptuous, staff sang carols at different times and Santa and Mrs Claus arriving on Harley Davidsons on Christmas morning making for lots of buzz and fun. Santa also handed out presents to children staying which was unexpected. We didn’t join the Christmas Day Dinner buffet but it also looked magical being hosted outside around the pool.
Our small group had standard merchant rooms which are large, airy and just beautiful spaces to relax. There are many spaces to find and enjoy whether that’s the Library, Verandah Bar or beachside of the Terrace. The beach is clean and peaceful with no hawkers and you can still have table service for food and drinks

LONG REVIEW ALERT- We had the most amazing time on the island of Langkawi and stay at The Danna. You feel like a VIP from the moment you land at the airport to the moment they drop you off at the airport. They greet you with a chauffeur car, give you a much needed cold bottle of water and take you to the hotel which is just a short drive away. When you pull up all the staff come out and greet you, so very welcoming. Once you arrive they introduce you to the relevant people, like the concierge, the cashiers desk etc, the manager greets you(who is wonderful) and you receive a wonderful shoulder massage and drink. They give you a very thorough tour of the hotel and take you to your room, and your bags are their waiting for you already. As we were there for the Ironman event as well, the manager informed us if we needed anything in particular to contact him right away and he will sort it (if you’re going for the Ironman event btw, this place is brilliant, athletes breakfast, press conference was held here, roll out of bed straight down at the starting line and T1, shuttle service to the expo and finish line for athletes and family, it’s excellent for both).
We have stayed at amazing hotels in the past, and The Danna is certainly up there, even surpasses in a few areas. The level of service is impeccable, the staff are so attentive(they even clean your sunglasses for you) the grounds and pool area are maintained well, the rooms are beautiful and well kept. When staff enter your room, they take off their shoes. The room service they bring you a table and chairs, it’s like dining in a restaurant but in your dressing gown. The food choice was amazing, even for my daughter who is fussy(she adapted many meals) which they accommodated quite happily. The wine and drinks choice at the hotel was very good, one point they could do with some non alcoholic beers. We went up to the cable car, 5mins drive away, the hotel ring for you to see the visibility and say whether it’s worth going or not, top tip pay the extra and go on the glass bottom cable car as there is no queue.
Upon leaving our flight was delayed so we would miss our connecting flight, the hotel again surpassed expectations and were very accommodating, they let us use their phone and we got our flight pushed back 24hours so that we didn’t have to sit at the airport for 9hours. The manager sorted us out an additional nights stay and even upgraded us to a suite, we cannot thank the Danna hotel enough for what they did for us in a stressful situation. This hotel felt so quiet even when it was full, truly amazing, and cannot wait to stay again. Every single member of Staff carry on doing what you’re doing, as we can’t fault you, and we can’t speak any more highly of you, You’re all amazing!!!! Hope to see you again next year!!

We were collected from the airport in a beautiful car and transported to the hotel within 20 minutes. We stayed in a Viceroy room with an amazing sea view. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. The shower was the best we have ever experienced on holiday. Twin sinks and a huge bathtub completed the bathroom.
Breakfast was superb, I do not know how people can pick fault, however small with it. A menu is presented from which you can choose a variety of cooked to order options. Then there is the buffet which is huge and of very good quality.
The pool and beach area are meticulously maintained, both have sun loungers with mattresses for comfort. Minor gripe is the mattress keep slipping down the lounger!
We hired a car for 2 days, arranged via concierge. We planned to take towels and water on our trip but shouldn’t have worried about this as these items were already placed in the car for us, excellent. The car supplied was brand new, it’s easy to drive in Langkawi as they drive on the same side of the road as in the UK.
The service provided from start to finish in the hotel is impeccable, all the staff are wonderful without exception.
I will name a few people who deserve a special mention Parul, Evon, Hafiz(assistant manager) and our favourite Radzaliha who works in the restaurant at breakfast time. She is such a wonderful caring , genuine person who we were very sad to leave when our holiday ended.
The hotel have a number of Indian people working on internships, they were the most polite people we have ever met. They are a credit to themselves and the hotel.
Thank you to all the staff, you make this hotel what it is. We will return in the future.

This hotel is simply amazing. The facilities and design are beyond beautiful. The breakfast at the Planters was incredible. What makes this place very special amongst other 5* in the region is it's amazing Staff. Thank you.
Definitely recommended and we would come back.
The only request to this amazing hotel is to be more eco friendly. At a time when people are becoming more conscious of what they can do to minimize their environmental impact, hotels should respond by rethinking their long-standing reliance on single-use plastic. Glass water bottles with filtered water and refills for toiletries are a must to preserve the beautiful nature in Langkawi.

Dear galynalynnyk, We are pleased to have had the opportunity to welcome you at The Danna Langkawi. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, and for your suggestion as to how we can be a better friend to the environment. We have already started the process of taking these initiatives and gradually we will be removing all kind of plastic from the resort. We started first removing plastic straws and other initiatives require time and planning and hopefully we should be able to achieve them in future. Thank you again for your review and we look forward to serving you soon on another great stay in our beautiful resort. Warm Regards Aamir Khan General Manager

We had a very memorable stay at The Danna from the moment we were warmly welcomed upon arrival and taken for a tour within the majestic setting of this beautiful hotel. All of their staffs take pride in ensuring guests are well served and we truly felt like home as everyone was extremely accommodating throughout our stay. Their specially prepared breakfast orders were extremely generous and delicious, coupled with morning champagne to start off our day :) We specially enjoyed lounging by their magnificent pool overlooking a calming private beach coupled with hornbills chirping above us, it was truly a relaxing getaway. Housekeeping rounds were promptly made twice daily to ensure our room is always spick and span with nothing short of amiss. My son also enjoyed feeding the fishes very much. Special thanks to Salim (for the lovely grapes), Kevin (for taking our son on a buggy ride) and Arifin (for your warm welcome) and sincere services extended to us. We definitely look forward to returning again soon :) Warmest regards, Jessica Tan.

My wife has stayed here with work colleagues, we’ve stayed here as a couple for an anniversary break and we’ve used the Danna as our vacation base while exploring Langkawi.
For every situation, the Danna has come up trumps. Comfortable and spacious accommodation, amazing service and pleasant and professional staff make it a relaxing yet fun place to stay. Food can be a little expensive but you get what you pay for. The curries on the dinner menu are very good.
For families the beach is literally a few steps away from the swimming and bathing pools and the sand and water is clean. There’s even a little island further out to swim to if you’re feeling adventurous.
The front of house experience has been well thought out - when you arrive, your baggage is whisked away and you are taken to be seated and given a cold towel, refreshing drink and a short massage as your details are confirmed. In these COVID times it’s reassuring to know that everyone at the Danna is fastidious in their compliance with regulations, so you are assured of a safe stay.
We normally stay in a room at the Danna, but this time we were able to book a villa. If you can, try and book one - you will not have any reason to grumble when booking a room, but the villa takes the whole Danna experience to a new level.
From a lounge with three glass sides, you look out onto your private pool and garden and beyond that the sea. Bedding is sumptuous and the bathroom connects to a private outdoor massage area. My kids really enjoyed themselves, swimming every day and then reading or watching Netflix on the large TV when it rained. When you check out, you have the use of a ‘hospitality room’ for an hour to freshen up before your trip home. This is especially useful if you stay around and use the pool for the rest of the day before leaving! Little things that really make a difference.
For the family it felt like a real break and the quality of service and the helpfulness of the staff made that happen.
Possibly the only disappointment I’ve ever had at the Danna is quite a small thing. The Verandah Lounge is an impressive setting with lots of colonial artefacts and many bottles of spirits on show. However, the cocktail I ordered was really not up to standard. I’m quite fussy with my drinks though, so I said nothing.
As with many great hotels, the bar should really be a place of excellence. From my cocktail barman days, I wonder if the bar is not large enough or well equipped enough for the venue. The lounge is a great place to sit and relax with a whiskey or a cognac, but it would be good if the standard of mixed drinks also matched the very impressive venue.
Anyway, that is a single, very small, and very personal reflection that does in no way affect my overall view of the place.
The Danna - the hotel is great, the staff are wonderful and the service is impeccable.
If you come to Langkawi and don’t stay here at least once, you’re missing out.

We have returned for the 3rd time to this hotel but had a 3 year gap between the last visit and now. The Italian restaurant was new since we were last here and is delicious- we highly recommend their homemade pastas! Still a lovely hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the room and pool however some improvements could be made- single use plastic bottles are still being given in the rooms (whereas other 5 star hotels we have been to have changed to glass bottles that are sanitised and refilled) as well as individual toiletry bottles rather than big refillable ones too.
We would highly recommend the spa- the Balinese massage is great and would have had another if they weren’t already busy with other guests booking! There is an offer on for 2 for 1 which has helped get guests to the spa which was nice to see.
The Veranda had a fun addition of 151 gins to try and the staff were so helpful with where each came from! The main female toilets in the hotel next to the Veranda are due some maintenance as none of them flushed properly and took several attempts.
Overall still a hotel we would come back to but would be nice to seen some minor improvements made to bring it to 5 stars!

I've been to Langkawi many times and on this occasion we are staying at The Danna (previously The Berjaya) in 3 weeks time. We generally hire a car to get around (it's pretty cheap) and they drive on the left too. Taxis are cheap too. Plenty of restaurants in Pantai Chenang to check out a short drive / Taxi away. We also like going to Wonderland in Kuah town (excellent seafood and great prices). Also check out the food at Bon Ton. Small family restaurants on roadsides are worth supporting too....incredibly cheap and excellent food served up too. Hope this helps.
As others have said near the Danna there are not many restaraunts. However there is the roving night market which comes near to the Danna on one of the nights. We didnt have all inclusive at the Danna - in the evenings we took a grab to cenang beach area where there alot of restaraunts and cafes and things are open until late. By grab taxi its about 20/25mins there and its so cheap to travel by grab around the island…
