Great place! Owner with colleagues makes our time even more enjoyable with their friendly support. Never had a kite rental with such new (2022) and such a high class gear.
Enrique even put more effort while there was lower wind at Mancora and took us further south for epic downwind sessions. It turns out amazing ride along jumping humpback whales.
Many Thanks for everything and also awesome BBQ our last day.
Would definitely come back again.

My wife and I decided to stay here for two reasons- first she enjoys yoga more than I do, and second, we wanted to relax at a nice place on the beach our last 3 nights, of 22, in Peru, before we had to return home. And relax we did. We knew very little about Mancora other than it was a surf area and had a nice beach. Due to the distance, we needed to take an overnight bus to reach Mancora from Chiclayo, therefore we arrived at 4 am of the day we were to check in to Samana Chakra. No problem they said. We grabbed a moto-taxi and arrived at their doors at 4:30 am. By flashlight (they were only running their generator during set day-time hours) they lead us to our bungalow. We had brought flashlights (always good to be prepared) and found our way once inside our room to the front french doors that swung open to the ocean. Mancora has a good surf, and the sound of the crashing waves was music to our ears. Fortunately for us, we realized the Leonid meteor shower was peaking this night, it is completely dark out on this deserted area of the Earth, and we watch for another 30 minutes before we fell asleep. We awoke, had breakfast (this was the only meal we ate here so we have no feedback on other meals), and went to enjoy the beach. Since it was low season the place was very quiet, soon we realized we were the only guests for the nights we stayed. Which meant no yoga. No problem, since we had the experience of enjoying this lovely place all to ourselves with a great pool, beautifully simplistic, yet extremely comfortable bedrooms with lovely tiled outdoor bathrooms and large showers (we quickly learned to get hot water, you have to wait for the generator to be running). With the french doors swung open to the beach, surf crashing 50 yards away, the sound would lull us to sleep each night. The price was also discounted due to it be low season, but apparently the temperature is similar year round. Mancora is a great place to surf, you can take lessons, and it really is a quiet, sleepy little town. Only draw back for some might be the location, as it is North of Mancora (5 minute walk on the beach or 1-2 sole moto-taxi ride); and most of the resorts/hotels are on the South end. This just added to our seclusion and privacy. So now we know what it is like to be rock stars and renting out a whole resort for privacy.

We saw the website and immediately fell in love with the place. The pictures were amazing, and you know that a picture is worth a 1000 words...

This resort is placed in a remote beach called Mancora. A great place to fish, surf and relax. We booked Samana Chakra because we needed a place for relaxation, yet... we got the opposite.

When we reached the resort we were glad with the accommodations. The rooms were rustic, nice and tidy and the decoration was suitable with the atmosphere it wanted to create. The bathroom was roofless and smartly designed ( just be sure not to leave the toiletpaper or your towels out there or the wind will blow them away). There is no tv in the room which is fabulous when you are trying to rest, but I found it weird that there were no phones in the rooms, therefore forget about the room service, it's non-existant. I have no complains about how the room looked. However, I do have complains about the rest of the resort.

The dinning at this resort was sad. The dinning room while being visually appealing lacked in all other aspects. The wait staff are the same girls that tidy the rooms, basically house maids. It took 20 minutes for one of the girls to take our order and then she kept forgetting over and over again what we wanted and would bring the wrong drinks to the table. Not only that, while taking our order she would be eating infront of us. While the girls seemed nice, when you are paying that much per night you would expect much better service. They are no waitresses and lack any training on customer service. Finally we got our meal, the first bite tasted great but when chewing it more we found that the crab raviolis were not only filled with crab meat but also with their shell, so basically we went to bed with an empty stomach due to the bad preparation of their food. And as it turns out the "chef" was not even there that night so the dinner was prepared by the people who ran the hotel, and still charged full price. After that we decided never to eat there again and we went out for every meal to the town's restaurants that were miles better and way cheaper. Additionally, the juice that accompanied the continental breakfasts tasted more like water with a hint maracuya's juice as opposed to pure juice. They also claimed that they changed their juices daily, but that was not the case.

On the 2nd day of our stay we tried to start the day with a happy mood and see what the day would bring, and think that that night was just a bad day for the resort. Wrong. We go out to do our visiting of the town and strolling down the beach, and when we come back the cleaning ladies just started to make our rooms. They had all day to tidy them up, but just as we arrived they decided to clean them up. And it was already 2pm by then and there were only 2 other guests at the resort. There's only 8 bungalows in the resort, I don't think it takes more than half a day to clean 8 rooms. So we waited outside until they were done while the owner and the administrator sunbathed by the pool not caring about the bad service. We also inquired about the massage, to which they replied they would gladly turn on the hot tub near the pool... And no it wasn't a language barrier, we speak Spanish fluently.

On day 3, we went fishing which was the highlight of the trip. We decided to opt for a local fisherman instead of using the recommended $275 charter service. The local fishing guide charged s/.50 for 4 people an hour which is $17 an hour. It took us 20 minutes to get to the spot and we caught fish nonstop from the time we arrived until we left. Even though his boat was small and you fished using only your hands and fishing line, it was a far more authentic experience and very satisfying ( the gentleman's name was El Rojo, if you are interested in contacting him we think he is well known around the pier area, however we found him through one of the mototaxi drivers). He also recommended a restaurant that cooked the fish we had just caught which turned out to be the best meal we had during the entire trip. We returned hoping to shower and relax in our rooms only to find that there was no hot water. Upon this discovery we found the administrator once again sunbathing by the pool and informed us that she was sorry and that there should be hot water in 2 hours. While my husband took a cold shower I decided to wait even though I was covered in fish guts, so 2 hours later we checked the water and there was still no hot water. So I ventured back out to the pool were the administrator was still sunbathing and explained the situation to which I was told to wait another 30 minutes and there should be hot water. So 2 hours and 45 minutes later I was able to take a shower. After this we discussed our options with the rest of our party and decided unanimously that for the prices we were being charged, that the service we were receiving was not as advertised and not even close to being worth the money and that it was time to leave the very next day 1 and a half days early and go back to Piura. I guess maybe it sounds picky, but would you stay at a resort where you can't rest, eat or shower?

All in all, unless you enjoy throwing money away stay in any other hotel/resort in the area. For the money being paid, you would have received internet, phone, room service, a respectable dining experience, a respectable staff and other general amenities that most hotels/resorts offer. This resort is no resort, it is basically like renting a beach house for the weekend or staying at a campground that has cabins at an outrageous price, but a beach house or cabin with no kitchen, no phone, no nothing... just a bed and a bathroom. Stay at this resort at your own risk, some people seemed to have had relatively good experiences while others like us have not. All complaints aside the reality of this resort is that it has very few resort-like qualities that would be associated with a place that charges that much money. This coming from people who have stayed at more than one resort in more than one country.

Well.. we booked our stay at Samana Chakra for the end of our 3 weeks trip to Perou. We wanted a nice place to relax and just enjoy the beach. The property is quite nice, the pool is beautiful, but the overall stay was just far from our expectations.

When you go to a fancy hotel, you expect a fancy service. That was not the case. We didn't find the staff very attentive or proactive. We had to figure everything on our own. There was no hot water in the 4 days we were there.. and when we complained, we got a free meal and they told us it would be back the next day.. well it was never back and no one cared to come and tell us it wasn't going to be back at all.

We read that they clean the sheets and towels every 3 days because they want to save water as an environmental concern. At first, we thought it was great that they valued the environment and we were supportive of it. But when you are sitting on your dirty beach towel and you realize they drive a huge SUV (totally un-eco friendly) and they spend HOURS every day to water the grass on their property in front of us.. you just feel like the environmental concern applies mostly to the guests and the things that saves them money and time and definitely not a way of living.

We were not impressed with the owners. Every place we went (and this was not the fanciest nor the most expensive) the owners or staff were very friendly. At Samana Chakra, the owner (man) was basically almost rude to us. The first morning he saw us at the pool he didn't bother to say hi or acknowledge our presence, he was too busy setting his kite surf. After a while, we realized he just didn't care about our presence at all. But he was always around the pool, his daughter was throwing fits every 5 minutes, they were working on their marketing tools in front of us and we were never acknowledge. Their staff were a lot more concerns with attending the owner's every little need than attending ours. We felt like we were in their life but invisible. We did not appreciate that and it made us feel uncomfortable on their premises.

We then proceeded to stop going to the pool (we were too uncomfortable) and to eat every meal in town (even breakfast) and to stay in our room at night. This is not what I call feeling good somewhere. I would not recommend it to my friends as I know they would expect a lot more from the service than what they seem to be offering.

The feeling we had is that we were there to ensure they lived a life of luxury and not the other way around. .

We decided to save the best for last on our recent trip to Peru. We are so excited to get to the beach resort, to get some sun, get a massage, maybe learn to suffer, and just relax!!! Sadly Samana Chakra wasn't at all the place it was promised to be. Yes the location was beautiful be the 4 nights were stayed there were miserable. It started the night we arrived- granted we got in later in the night around 10:30pm there was NO ONE there to greet us but a "security guy" who spoke very little to no English. We assumed the cab fare would be included or at least added on to our trip but instead we were demanded cash on site in the dark by the cab driver with NO warning from the hotel on how much the cost would be. 2) the sheets weren't clean on arrival, and the lights outside and bathroom didn't work. (remind you we got there late so there was plenty of time to get this done) 3) when we woke up we have to show ourselves around the property and figure for ourselves where to get breakfast since NO ONE greeted us or bother to explain anything to us. 4) we get back to the room after breakfast only to find out door wide open and staff "changing the light bulb 5) On 3 different days we tried book a massage. the first time we were told 45 minutes after our appointment time that we couldn’t get a massage that day. So we spoke with the owner, she said she would set something up for us. The following day after the owner herself got a massage she comes up to us to tell us how great her massage??? what happen to customer service oh yes and we were told we the lady didn’t have time to give us a massage- but she would come back the following day. No big shocker she never came and we weren’t told until 10 minutes after the said appointment.6)the owners kids not only brought animals into the public dinning area but threw there "homemade milkshake" of coffee water and rice on us at the pool 7)staff member showed us their swollen tonsils at the dinning table 8) staff lied and said they didn’t know I was a vegetarian when we told the cook the night before, and at lunch that day 9) when we tried to talk to owner about our issues during the trip all she really had to say was that she choice to be a happy person and they tried- never did she try to fix anything or say she was sorry
It seemed like she had the "resort" more like guest house so she could hire a staff to take or her and kids (to clean up, and cook for her) Clearly customer services is not a concern of samana chakra or the owners and staff
seriously don’t waste your money. This is NO resort, all they do is take your money without much "service" in return

No hot water - cold shower was dreadful! Inadequate lighting, no desk, no chair, no television. Room too small to unpack suitcase. No place for items from suitcase. Bathroom too dark to shave in morning. Isolated with very limited amenities. Internet did not work in room. Marijuana odor in restaurant was disgusting.
Reserved for 3 nights without deposit. Paid in advance upon arrival for 3 nights. Checked out after 1 night to avoid another cold shower. Clerk refused to refund charges for 2 unused nights. Price for room is way too expensive for quality and services.

To appreciate this hotel, it is critical to arrive with a realistic set of expectations, which you will not get from looking at the pictures on the website. This is not a glamorous or refined hotel as you might assume from the sexy and shiny photographs. However, if you are in Mancora, one can assume that you are there for the bohemian chic and slightly 'edgy' environment. That description fits the hotel perfectly and I can guarantee that you will go a long way to find such wonderful personalized customer service. The reception team and owner are both fantastic and so eager to make your stay memorable. Match this with stunning sunsets and you will have a lovely stay; but don't go expecting cutting edge cuisine or top notch luxury villas or you ill end up a little deflated.

I spent two weeks here less than a year ago and promised to leave a review but never seemed to have the time... however after recently speaking to my friends and family, reminiscing about my time in Peru, I couldn't stop thinking about this wonderful resort where I spent two weeks of bliss.

I don't often make reviews so don't really know what to say, but i do know that my time in Mancora was the highlight of my six months travelling in South America, and all thanks to this resort. My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the bungalows in the garden, which was clean and beautifully decorated. The ambiance was friendly, very calm and we felt tremendously at ease. Of course the surroundings are out of this world. Seeing as the resort is just on the beach but away from the touristic area we could easily find a quiet spot to sunbathe and relax. This being said we were never far from the town centre and could make it home at night on foot.

The staff were wonderful, and the main reason our stay was so enjoyable. They were extremely friendly and always there to help, always going the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our time at Samana Chakra. I can't stress enough how much I loved my time in Mancora, nor how desperately I want to return there. All I can say is if you are considering staying here - do so. It'll be the best decision you've ever made.
