We booked this hotel for three nights and liked it so much that we booked it for another five. It was a great location and great staff. Our go to man was José, who seemed to be working all the time, he checked us in, cooked us breakfast and was at the door to let us in when we came back from dinner at night. He always had a smile on his face and he spoke English. We had a balcony room overlooking the ocean and it was quiet while we were there. We had to change rooms a couple of times, because of staying longer, which was fine. Good wifi, and good service. We are not surfers and the day we checked out it filled up so there was a lot more stir. Our flight out was not until 19:30 and they provided us with a room to shower and change at no extra cost. The price was descent and it was a very positive experience for finishing up a five week trip to Peru.

Barry I would have no issue recommending this small hotel.

If I had read fjelgar's review before I booked I probably would not have booked at this hotel. Our room was clean so no problem with that but the "ocean view" room we were told would be available for us was not available after all. The first room we were shown was small and very dark and when we said we did not like it, the second room we were shown was the identical one, just one floor up! We were finally given a better room with large windows, but no ocean view. The top floor of the hotel (3rd floor) where there are a couple of rooms that would have a great view of the ocean, is still under construction. There is no air conditioning, which we don't mind but it did mean sleeping with the windows open, which lets in mosquitos who do find their way through the mosquito nets over the bed. Also, the very, very loud music from the nearby bars goes on until 2am or 3am in the morning. Curtains on the windows are very light and do nothing to keep out the noise or the early morning light.

On a plus side, we really enjoyed the breakfast. The restaurant cafe has a lovely little terrace where you can sit and watch the surfers and it really is the best spot for that in Mancora. The wifi worked really well too.

Overall this is a great location if you want to be "in town" and on the beach, just don't expect an ocean view room. For the price, they need to upgrade their attention to details.

Hi there Mancora is a place for relax and also for party. The New Year is loud for sure, everywhere you go specially in Mancora. People travel, spend money and for sure want some fun. The bars and pubs are open until 3 am here and the way to do it here is simple as we recomend : After the beach, please take a nap, take a good shower, dress nice, go to the restaurant of your choice, and after a nice dinner, go and find a party, meet new friends, enjoy like everyone else does around here, On the other hand party people love us, we are so well located, next to everything and close to town, safe and secure, that is what we offer, plus class and confort. One more thing, now the ocean view rooms are ready. Anyone please ? Regards Felipe

The best thing about the Don Giovanni is the location, otherwise it is a dump. It is right on the point at Mancora where you can watch the surfers and surf school students collide on the overcrowded waves from your balcony. That's about it, the hotel is very overpriced and offers little. When we checked in we were surprised to see a cat poo on the floor of our shower. Management quickly switched our room...to a dismal interior room with only one window high above that allowed the hotel lights to shine in at night. A terrible room.
We asked for a different room and even after the cat crap incident and the interior room they still charged us for the better triple room. Very unprofessional. Shower was weak and outdated in the room though we had a nice view from the balcony. WiFi worked. Breakfast was offered, simple fruit and fried egg but the staff was kind enough. There are no other offerings, the restaurant was closed and the "gelateria" non-existent. Stay elsewhere.

We stayed in Dec/Jan for almost a week. When we arrived we found that they had given us the wrong room, we had to repack our things and they moved us to a room with no windows and a sleepless night. Yes, it is noisy at that time of year, which is to be expected and we were up until around 4am with a very clear noise of partying in the background. However, this is what you expect when you come here as it was New Year and this is where people come to party. The problem was the insistent building works which started early and went on all day, so we really didn't sleep. It's got a great location on the beach, the ice cream, though over priced is ok. Felipe is interesting, a bit 'salesy' and did insist that we leave a review. He even offered his laptop on our last day to do so. No disrespect to him, he obviously has a business to run but it felt a bit pushy when we are on holiday. We both left out stay there feeling like we had paid more then the value it should have been but it was fine. Great for surf and lots of night life near by but honestly would not recommend it and we would not stay again - unless it was much cheaper! Also it's not actually a suite, they are basic rooms with a shower room. On the plus side, the rooms were clean and comfortable. I think it would be worthwhile to be a bit more clear with the advertising and lower people's expectations as we were quite disappointed with what we found and our stay overall.

Location of the hotel is good. We stayed two nights. I guess for the standards of Mancora the hotel is decent but very simple. The room is minimalist with a bed and a bed table. You have to ask reception if your price covers or not the air conditioning. You also have to fight for another towel and also for paper rolls. Seriously!!! There is no shampoo hair dryer and the shower gel is a piece of soap Sometimes the staff is nice sometimes not at all. Good luck to come back late to the hotel as it is closed and the guard sleeps deeply. The breakfast is the poorest I have ever had in my life with some little eggs and three pieces of bread. Forget butter and jam and anything else. Coffee is water. At least the room was clean but we are not going back to it..

We visited Don Giovanni and after we ordered drinks and food, we used the sunbeds in front of the restaurant. It took 30 minutes to bring our fruitjuices and another 30 minutes to bring the nachos. I walked in to ask where the toilet was, and a woman said on a really aggressive tone that I need to order something before using the toilet. I explained friendly that I ordered drinks and food, and only after that I could use a disgusting toilet. When my friend walked in 15 minutes later and asked the toilet, she did exactly the same. But we were more shocked when they sent us away, just 10 minutes after we finished the food, because we “have to spend 60 soles on drinks, not included the food.” We went to the neighbour, called Wawa, where we had a better place and where the staff respected us.

Atentamente Luis Felipe Ricci

Don Giovanni has a beautiful view. Thats the best part of this review. The room was hot, the overhead fan ineffective. No hot water but that was okay since it was so hot. There was a miscommunication with the front desk. I paid for two nights upfront. The girl at front desk was insistent that I hadn't and I felt was on verge of kicking us out. The girl who made the original reservation finally confirmed that I did pay them up front and apologized for the confusion but the incident marred my stay there. I would never return.

I really enjoyed a three night stay at this hotel. The location is wonderful - right on the beach - and you get to watch the flocks of pelicans fly past as you're having breakfast on the terrace. The staff are friendly, warm, and obliging, and the breakfast and lunch options are both very good. I've seen a couple of other reviews on here citing problems with bugs, noise at night and cleanliness. Just wanted to say that this wasn't my experience at all - and I was staying in suite 2! Can't help wondering whether sand flies on the beach were the real culprit of the earlier reviewers' discomfort, but I wasn't there. The lack of aircon in the room was not a problem for me - you can open a window for the breeze and with the netting around the bed you're safe from the mozzies. It's great to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. I found the place very peaceful - great to stay for a few nights - and I'd recommend it. Overall I found the hotel very good value for the money you pay. Outside of the hotel though I'd probably say I'm not quite so keen on Mancora as a place. The beach is great, and there are a couple of nice restaurants in town (Sirena d'Juan), but you pick up a general slightly "jaded with tourists / can't be bothered attitude" here from the locals which came as a shock as I hadn't experienced that elsewhere in Peru, even in Cusco. So I'd recommend staying at Don G for a few nights to take advantage of the location of this pleasant hotel and of the variety of nightlife options in the town, but maybe then combining that with a stay at a more remote beach to spend some time away from the town as well. You don't have to go far from Mancora to find a different Peru - I went down to the less touristy fishing village of Cabo Blanco for lunch (bus to El Alto and then change to a combi) and encountered a completely different, much warmer and more genuine attitude from the people there.

This is the spot to be!

When we first arrived in Mancora we were staying down the other end of town - out of the action and away from the surf break. We quickly made the move to Don Giovanni's Balinese suites and luckily they were able to accommodate the group of us. So glad we did, as it made for a fantastic month.

It's definitely where you want to be - right on the surf break and kite launch. So you can sit and watch all the action while you sip your coffee (or Pisco!). It's also a close, safe walk to the beach bars and Malecon. It's quiet at night - you can hear the waves break onto the beach.

The food and service was AMAZING. So good that we never went anywhere else for breakfast or lunch. They also make a mean Pisco Sour at Happy hour.

Felipe and Eva are magnificent hosts - friendly and super helpful, whatever you need. After a month there, we felt like family.

It was hard to leave. We'd go back in a second. If you're looking for a place to experience Mancora, relax, have fun, and eat well, then Don Giovanni's is the place.
