The cabins are basic but have everything you need including an excellent fan and a fridge. You are given your own balcony area with outdoor table and hammocks, we enjoyed spending time soaking up the peaceful surroundings and hoping the dogs and cats would come and say hello.

Secondly, the owners are wonderful. They are kind and very accomodating even when we cancelled a night of our accomodation last minute.

To add to this, they rescue dogs and cats and house them all on the complex. You can see how much care and attention they have given to each individual animal and it really is magical to see. We were welcomed home everyday by lots of dogs and cats all friendly and full of character.

This is not a normal hostel or hotel vibe but is cosy and heart warming. We really enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here with my boyfriend in december, we truely loved our stay. the hostel is at the other end of town from the party hostels making it a really relaxing and quiet place to stay. however although it is away from the party area it is only a short walk to the bars, maybe 10 mins max and the area is perfectly safe. also its close to the beach and has a few small shops on the other side of the block. the hostel its self offers a swimming pool, big garden, hammocks, kitchen, wifi and a choice of breakfast, we allways went for scrambled eggs, which were great. Also if your an animal lover you'll love this place as the owners have 10 rescue dogs and a cat which are all adorable and very well behaved. the price is also very reasonable here and if you stay more than a few nights they will give you a discount. The couple who own this place are terrific, they are so friendly, and will help you with onwards travel plans as well as ordering mototaxi's, food deliverys etc they will also give you plenty of local info and info on prices of moto taxi's to certain places like the mud baths. they really made us feel at home and always had a smile on their faces. if your lokking for a friendly relaxing place in mancora this is most definitely it. Top Marks *****

We stayed here for 4 weeks as we stopped our journeys for some serious R&R at our first beach destination in South America. We found references to this place online and it sounded a lot more relaxed than many of the other "party" hostels in town.
The location of Guacamayo is at the north end of town in the more local neighbourhood- slightly away from the noisy action centre and closer to better part of beach, however the noise does tend to carry over the whole town.
The rooms are a good size with private bathrooms with hot electric showers and the beds come with mosquito nets. All rooms have a hammock outside.
Price wise I think it would definitely be the best value in town (there are a couple that are cheaper but much more basic and many that are more expensive offering less).
The grounds are really nice and Sylvia and Martin the owners put a lot of effort into it constantly planting new trees and flowers (will look great when all mature). There is also a terrific pool which they clean everyday. There is a communal kitchen with dining area and free wifi.
The owners were terrific - Sylvia and Martin - have put a lot of effort into creating this place and are wonderful to speak with and are always on hand to help and even let me watch their tv when wimbledon was on :)
Our first week here was absolutely idyllic - there was only 3 couples staying in total and we were all similarly just after peace and relaxtion and we felt we had found beach bum paradise! If I had only stayed one week I would definitely have given a 5 rating and probably said it was my favourite place in south america.
However after this first week when other guests came it did show some of the problems of the rooms. The majority of the rooms are part of the one construction (made of bamboo) and the walls dont quite reach the roof so if your neighbours leave their lights on (all night) this spills into your room, sounds travels very easily as does smoke. Unfortunately the next 3 weeks were very busy and there were a number of inconsiderate guests who didnt respect the owners and smoked in the rooms, brought non paying guests to the rooms, played music all night, didnt clean kitchen after use, didnt wash before using the pool, leaving rubbish all over the pool etc - it really destroyed the ambience of the place and what the owners want it to be (quiet and chilled) - very strange as there is an almost unlimited supply of party accommodations in this town. While these types of guests are not the fault of the owners they did highlight the construction problems of the rooms and the owners for some reason turned a blind eye to some of the serious problem guests (heavy drug takers for eg) and seemed to turn on some of the guests who were trying to do the right thing.
A great place to stay if you get lucky with your fellow guests.
TIp - the beaches south of Mancora (Vichiyato) are awesome - whiter sand and cleaner water. The accommodations looked more upmarket but might be worth investigation if you are after "relaxation"

I was here in late December 2012. It is a nice relaxed hostel with very friendly helpful and multilingual owners. We stayed in a single room with a matrimonial bed with a large mosquito net and fan and ensuite bathroom. There are hot water showers and a swimming pool and a great cooked breakfast with fried or scrambled eggs. It is a relatively quite and relaxed hostel in low season and the prices are very reasonable compared to elsewhere. Decent Wifi too.

There are 10 rescue dogs there including a large black great dane dog. These have got to be the quietest dogs I have ever come across. Seriously not a bark out of any of them in 6 days. You can get a bit of a discount on the price too if you stay more than one night which is great. We spent a whole day checking out all of the hostels in Mancora and this really is the best one.

If you go to Mancora you will be missing out if you don't go to this hostel.

The facilities was badly buildt with thinn bamboo walls = loudly between the rooms. Breakfast was poor. Location was far away from city centre. Electric heated showers that look wery dangerus with bad wirering, you got electric shock when you are showering. It was still very nice hosts who was keen inte everything was fine.

We had the most amazing 5 night stay in Guacamayo B&B! The owners, Martin and Silvia, are brilliant hosts. Our bungalow was perfect, with a private bathroom and lots of space. We particularly enjoyed the hammocks and the swimming pool! The beach is a few minutes walk away, and the place is quiet away from the busy strip of Mancora! Excellent breakfast every morning! Lots of dogs also which I loved!! There's a kitchen and TV room too if you want to cook for yourselves! Lovely, clean and excellent services!

Stayed at the hostel with my boyfriend and got a double bed room with private shower. Rooms were clean, comfy beds, equipped with a fan ( which you will definitely appreciate in mancora) and best of all you own patio space with a hammock and wood bench. The owners Silvia and Martín are extremely friendly and helpful. And you must be a dog lover because these wonderful people take in stray dogs in bad conditions and give them a loving home at the hostel! Best of all, there's a clean and well kept pool here! Love love love this place!

So we arrived in Mancora on a bus at 3am and needed bed. We were takes here and really felt like we landed on our feet. $30 or so for a private room for 2 with breakfast. There is a nice pool and chairs outside the bungalow to relax in, nice late check out so we could be lazy and catch up on sleep.

Breakfast was ok, fairly standard fare but tasty enough.

Be warned they have quite a few dogs, all very friendly and not in your face if you don't fuss them, also at the moment they have a very cute kitten who may come to visit you in your room!!!

Great place, great hosts.

When staying at the beach there is nothing quite like a nice rustic bungalow to set the mood.
When you arrive don't let the barking dogs put you off as they are extremely friendly and love a good pat. By the time you leave the dogs and the super friendly owner will be your best friends. Guacamayo is a short walk to the beach and the Main Street with all the restaurants and bars, but even better it's far enough away that the thumping music is more like background noise. You will hear the club music from everywhere you stay in Mancora, it's unavoidable.
At breakfast your rolls come with topping options which is a nice change. There is a great pool to relax in when it's too windy at the beach and a hammock and chairs out the front of you room.
If like us you choose to take a tuk tuk around to find somewhere to stay, make sure he takes you here as one of the options. After seeing 4 other places we were sold on Guacamayo as soon as we walked through the gate.

If you like dogs, a relaxed vibe, comfy hammocks and a benevolent host, then head to Guacamayo in Mancora.

Hosts Martin and Sylvia do a delightful breakfast each day, with hunts ideal for any traveller. There's a clean swimming pool to take a dip in, despite the beach being 2 mins walk away.

True to Martin's warm nature, he began adopting local stray dogs and currently has a football team of 11 pooches. They are a well behaved bunch and make for different type of vibe from the normal backpacker abode.

Martin and Silvia sell cold beers and water at the same price you'd pay for it in the shops and he even had some medical advice for me when I fell ill.

If you want a chilled out place away from the garish commercial hub of mancora, head to Guacamayo
