This is a great hotel for the price. The rooms are lovely and it has a great pool. The hotel in is a great location - near to both the beach and the high street.

We did however experience a few issues with our reservation and also service of some staff.

Reservation:We booked the room via the via the reservation page online and an email came back to confirm availablity . I then tried to re-email however, this kept bouncing back. On arrival, the staff had no recollection of our reservation until we showed the email print off - to jog their memories. Apparently they had IT issues but noone got in touch with us to let us know. Luckily there were rooms available. At first, we were put into the wrong rooms and asked to move. As such, we didnt stay in the bungalow as wished, instead our group was separated into 2 x rooms.

Breakfast is included but it very limited, to bread and jam, 4 days of this was enough for us. When paying for bed and breakfast, I would expect more choice than this.

With regards to the service, the Peruvian girls were great. However, we were less impressed with the manager (Chris) , who we felt could have been more attentive. At breakfast day 1 , we were sat waiting for breakfast and no acknowledgement was made to our presence (despite us and him being the only people on the tables). We had to ourselves walk into the kitchen to ask the staff for food, whilst he was on Facebook next to us. This was then also repeated the next day. He was argumentive with regards to our reservation mix up, no help was offered with luggage when we were asked to change rooms and generally lacked customer service skills. The customer was never right !

There was little atmosphere to hotel, as such we did not spend too much time there, nor did we eat lunch or dinner there (the breakfast service putting us off).
We did not realise until later that this was a big kite surfing hotel - nothing was mentioned to us, no one discussed classes. This would have been something we would have taken part in such this been discussed with us.

There are also lots of cats around - some people may / may not like this. We didnt as they seemed to climb everwhere and would get into your room if you had your door open .
Overall good value hotel in good location but service could have been better.

Sorry for the experience you had with Chris. He's excellent at managing hotel operations, but definitely needs work in customer service. I have taken over the ser vice side of the Hotel and I can guarantee the atmosphere and attention is much better, as it's what I enjoy the most. We are a family owned business, so we want everyone to feel welcome as if they are our personal guest. We also are working on putting in place a better reservation system, so hopefully the IT issues won't occur again. The next time you are in Mancora, please stay with us a again and you will have a very different experience. Happy Travels! Sincerely, Roxana Greene

My new husband and I made an impromptu honeymoon trip to Kites and we were so impressed by how awesome the staff treated us. They were more than accommodating and pleasant, making us a special honeymoon breakfast and getting me a coke in the middle of the night when I didn't feel good. The place is lovely, with kite inspired arched roofs and natural building materials. It was super clean. I definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic mini-resort next to miles of beach. Great place to relax, run the beach and bodysurf - our learn to kiteboard with the hotel's own school.
Great breakfasts with real coffee and fresh bread. I was given a large cabana for the price of a single with lovely hot showers and fresh towels.(You can tell that I've got used to much lower standards in the Andes and the Amazon.) Lovely friendly owners and staff who invited me to use the resort facilities until my overnight bus left. May try kiteboarding when I come back....

We spent 3 nights here at the end of January 2014. Our experience at this Hotel was a very negative one, even after we left!
We made our reservation via email to the manager of the hotel (who is based 10,000km away in the USA) after being recommended this hotel by friends. She sent us an email containing contradictory prices, and never mentioned anything about their cancellation policy. We agreed to the higher room price, guessing that the hotel would be really full (it wasn’t), because it was Peruvian holiday time.
Service: Non-existent, and the major downfall of the hotel. Breakfast was included in our bill, which consisted of a piece of cold bread with jam, and a pot of tea or coffee, and sometimes bacon. Amazingly this took 30-40minutes to arrive each morning, despite only 5 people eating breakfast. One morning they forgot about us- even though we were the only people at breakfast and staff walking around, in the end it was the gardener who had to bring us breakfast!! The attitude of the staff was awful, and the vibe of the hotel was very negative.
Our room (sea breeze): In need of a re-vamp, fairy old and basic. On the first night the mosquito net was completely filthy, and had multiple blood stains from previously squashed mosquitoes, and obviously hadn't been cleaned in some time. The mosquito net is necessary because the roofs are made from thatch, which is home to a colony of mosquitos, the net also had holes in it, making it fairly useless. The next morning we told the housekeeper, who promptly cleaned it. Though I don’t know how it was allowed to reach this condition in the first place.
So.. we decided we didn’t want to stay here for our full 7 days in Mancora, we gave Kites 3 days notice (fairly reasonable I thought), and cancelled the last 2 nights of our stay to go someplace better. The lady at reception told us this was no problem at all and entered it into the computer and onto the white board at reception. On the morning of our departure the site manager saw us walking out with our bags and she confronted us with absolutely no idea that we were leaving early. This came as no surprise to me, given what we had seen in the previous 3 days at the hotel.
The next day I sent an email to the USA manger, saying that we’d left, and that we owe them money for a night we hadn’t yet paid for, and if she would she like us to transfer the money to the same account as we’d paid the deposit into. The email I received back was a jaw dropper! She said that we needed to pay for the 2 nights we’d cancelled, that day, or else she’d report our passport numbers to the police for theft!!! The ensuing emails from her were just as horrible. It turns out they have a 4 WEEK CANCELLATION POLICY, which we were completely unaware of and was never included in any of her previous email correspondence when we were booking. The policy is utterly ridiculous given that the hotel was basically empty when we were there. It is nothing more than a way to scam money out of tourists.
In the end we paid the ransom, basically because we didn’t know what our legal obligation is under Peruvian law to pay, when one is not aware of such a policy.
All in all, there are many, many better options to stay in Mancora (like the hotel we went to after Kites, which was very nice – for the same cost per night).

When my fiancé and I visited this property we negotiated a rate with the lady at the reception desk. When we came back later to move in the guy at the desk told my fiancé that wasn't the rate and gave her a higher one. He was quite rude about it. I didn't hear about this from my fiancé until later. If I'd heard what that man had said to her at the time we would have never have stayed there.

I will say these bungalows are pretty to look at but they were obviously built by someone who isn't used to building stuff in hot buggy areas. The windows are all glass with no mosquito netting so keeping the room cool was impossible unless we opened the doors but then the bugs all got in.

We also had a rude awakening on the last night of our stay by the resident tomcat. Sometime during the night he started meowing really loud. So loud I wondered how is it possible for that cat to meow so loudly. That's when I looked up to the balcony area of the room and noticed he had gotten inside. Now I'm wondering with the doors and windows all closed how the heck did that cat get in here? So I go up to get rid of him and he runs out of the room where the roof meets the wall. Oh great, so on top of everything else there's a huge gap in the wall. So not only can the mosquitos and cats get in but also rats mice and cockroaches.

The final deal killer was the lack of internet. It had been sporadic on the 1st day of our stay and completely out on the 2nd day. When I first spoke to the lady at the front desk I told her the internet was vital to me and does the hotels work? She said that yes the hotel internet works. When I told her it was out she insisted it must be ok because she was able to use her Skype. She kept arguing this and insisted it must be my computer. She then asked another guest about his internet and he confirmed that it wasn't working.

This is when she gets nasty. She insists she had told me the hotels internet was not working ok (untrue) and that I had told her the other hotels internet didn't work either (irrelevant). Finally I just said, señora I don't want to argue I want internet. She had no comeback to that and walked away. Later on I learned from one of the onsite workers that the internet had been out for 2 weeks and no one knew when it would be fixed.

My fiancé and I checked out the following day.

The night we arrived we were asked to come back the next day because the "manager" was off. Needless to say asking someone to not stay in your "resort" when they have a reservation is more than a bit off putting. The staff was for the most part respectful and the place is clean but NOT secure they only had one key to our room and it took a day before they were willing to give it to us. We had to ask to be let in and out when we wanted access to our room. They advertise that they are a kite surfing destination and in a way they are. They have kite surfers hanging on the wall but to actually take a lesson they tell you to go into town and look for a instructor because they don't have one. Breakfast was very hit and miss and one day they just plain served the other guests and ignored us to the point we went across the road and purchased breakfast because they wouldn't serve us. I wouldn't suggest it as a "nice" place to stay but it's better than a tent.

We stayed a couple of days there in low season. We booked through a web page. The two double rooms were reserved as asked for, and were spacious, clean, modern, and relatively quiet. The place is marvellous: a good location to the beach, this part of the beach being very clean and attractive when we were there. And the garden with pool and palm trees really looks like on the photos, much like paradise.

The construction of the bungalows is also very special, modern, made of local material like wood, sugar cane and palm leaves. Air condition is by fan only, and you have to keep the room doors and windows very close, otherwise all kinds of animals will enter (including the cats).

The Peruvian staff was very friendly and helpful, though not really trained as professional hotel staff. But the rooms were always clean, and they also helped us with calling mototaxis and such things.

We had booked rooms with breakfast included, but this was only rolls and marmelade, however, they prepared us also eggs and fruit salad when we asked for. Sometimes it took a little longer until all parts of the breakfast arrived. We did not try to eat there, as we were nearly the only guests at that time.

Some times we took drinks at the bar, but the administrator (Christoph) who tried to make the drinks was not the real expert in cocktails, and did not have all the ingredients even for the few ones that were listed on the menu. He also did never mention to us that there were any kitesurf trainings available from the hotel, he seemed not too interested in guests.

I came to Peru for a surfing holiday. Stumbled upon Kites quite by accident. This hotel is just gorgeous. This place is comfortable and super stylish too. The staff are all very sweet, accommodating and helpful. A big highlight for me was the excellent food served in the onsite restaurant. You need only walk out your door for a fine-dining experience.

Very good place to stay in Mancora. 10min by walk from the city center, so quite calm, and very closed to the beach. Great swimming pool and hamacs. Room were large and comfortable. Only negative points : the towels were not changed. We had to request them every day at the reception. Some soap or shower products furnished would have been great too.
