Stayed at mancora in March 2015! the place was awesome. Great staff, the hostel was nice and clean, the pool was awesome and the bar had a really good atmosphere as well. It´s right on the beach which you pretty much have to yourself. was there for the full moon party as well, which was unreal. Theres tuk tuks out the front as well for whenever you want to go into town centre for 3 soles.

Expensive, horrible staff, super basic, everything is extra, towels are extra, a locker is extra, pool is dirty, payment system is not working, no mosquito nets.

A really really really really really bad place to go.

This is for LOOSERS!

Firstly, I'd like to start by saying we chose this hostel over other highly rated hostels in Mancora on the reviews of two previous volunteers at the point. We were really looking forward to our first night in Peru after travelling from Ecuador until the early hours.

The pool at the point is great, common areas great, bathrooms clean, showers hot, drinks and food reasonably priced. Seemed like a perfect hostel to us. Right on the beach in a nice quiet spot. We were really looking forward to spending some time in this hostel but an early night was in for us order. My boyfriend and I got into our bunks. Within 5 minute I was bitten. I lifted up my pillow only to find an adult bed bug. I know it was a bed bug because I'd been travelling with some people who went through a similar situation at a hostel in Colombia. I approached the reception to let them know and was promptly moved to a different room. Ten minutes later, a friend of ours was also moved. Guess why? Bed bugs. One hour later another friend moved to the same room with several visible bed bug bites.

The next morning I decided to go back into the room to wake my boyfriend who had managed to sleep through the bed bug fiesta. He woke to 20+ bites over his back and arms. We instantly chose to check out.

Whilst collecting our belongings we begin noticing bed bugs on the sheets of other beds in the dorm. Next to our bags and in my boyfriends case on his bag which had spent the night under the bed. During this time men from the hostel start removing the infested mattresses and we are able to further inspect. I cannot describe to you the sight that I saw, the only word I can use is infestation. The Woden bed frames, the pillows, the seams of the mattress, the areas surrounding the beds. Hundreds of adult bedbugs, small clear juvenile bed bugs and hundreds of what looked like nests. We lifted one final mattress to witness a flock of bedbugs disperse in several directions. One boy who had slept in the room for 4 nights lifted his mattress only to find the same. He was also covered in bites he assumed were Mosquitos! Needless to stay he was devastated and checked out instantly.

During the time spent packing away and inspecting our things the manager from the point comes to see for herself. Whilst stood looking at the infestation she exclaims 'this is a surprise' and asks us if we had anything to do with it. The manager initially appears concerned but then becomes progressively annoyed at us as if the problem was caused by our small group. She tells us no one has ever complained and begins bringing people (mainly volunteers) into the room to ask them if they had any bed bug issues whilst staying there. She continues to tell us she's very shocked and surprised because no one else has complained. She even goes as far as to insinuate that we may have brought the infestation with us because this is very 'surprising' to her.

We're annoyed but more concerned about any bed bugs in our clothes or bags and begin asking the manager of she is prepared to clean the items that have been left out overnight. After much persuasion she offers to wash our clothes that have been on and around the beds. My boyfriends bag had been open and under the bed as I mentioned and found with 4 translucent bed bugs crawling on it. All of his clothes needed washed. End of.

We check out of the point and leave our bags in storage to find another hostel. We later go back to the point to find the bed bug infested sheets in the bag store room laying on top of all the guests bags. The beds had been stripped and bedding had been stored right next to guests belongings. Perfect.

The manager at this point brings another person over and asks them to explain they stayed in the particular room for several nights and had no problems. She is now extremely in denial about the issue and refuses to acknowledge the bed bugs she was staring at two hours earlier! She then asks us to pay for the night spent at the point. I refused. Under no circumstances should anyone be made to pay for the stress a bed bug infestation causes whilst travelling. Because of this the manager is very annoyed and quite insulting towards us. We decide to leave and are told to collect our washing at 6pm the following day. The manager apologises but tells us she doesn't know how this can happen in her hostel. The infestation had clearly been there a long time, I can only assume she has ignored other complaints.

The following day we arrive to collect our washing to an extremely angry manager who tells us the laundry service have told her a few items of clothing we had washed were dirty. She tells us she wants to get to the bottom of this, she says this repeatedly. We tell her we washed clothes that had been left on our beds in her bed bug infested hostel some clean, some dirty, all possibly bed bug infested because of her hostel. My boyfriend entire bag contents needed washing because of her bed bugs, not because they were dirty. After a solid 15 minutes of her insulting our group about the few items of dirty clothes she then declares we have taken advantage of her and the situation she then states 'you slept here free of charge' which, yes my boyfriend and I did but our friends did not. Unfortunately they paid on arrival the manger argues this fact and claims they did not pay. The receptionist who took there payment is sat beside the manager (who is still withholding our washing). The receptionist says nothing during the commotion even though she is asked several times if she took the payment. The manager keeps saying 'the payment is not in the system'! And insists our friends pay again.

We're finally given our washing much to the managers disappointment who is still trying to understand why some of our clothes were dirty. I'm not actually sure how she knows my clothes were clean or dirty. Quite odd actually. We go to leave and are called back due to the missing payment once more, the manager has one final attempt to get our group to pay and we leave, confused and annoyed at the ordeal.

Nice one! The Point, Mancora has just become the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. The manager is extremely rude and aggressive she actually blamed us for the bedbug situation as if we had gone looking for bed bugs or planted them there. The room was infested and by the looks of things had been for a very long time. The manager told us the room was cleaned in December and the issue had 'happened fast'. I'm not sure what that means. This is an outrageous situation that no traveller ever wants to be in let alone blamed for. It was handled disgustingly by the manager of The Point and I will genuinely not stay at another of The Point hostels. I will continue to warn other travellers of this hostel and the extreme version of customer services we experienced.

This hostel is all right. Some of the pros include
+price-good price for dorms and privates, considering the location and the amenities provided.
+beds-comfortable, slightly small for singles, but good pillows and mattresses for the most part.
+pool- they keep it quite clean and it's in sun all day so it is a nice temperature.
+good happy hours- at several different times during the day they have excellent 2for 1 happy hour prices.
+kitchen staff. The kitchen staff are polite, helpful, and great prices for good portions and good quality meals. But no kitchen to cook your own food in.

Unfortunately this hostel absolutely loses it when it comes to the managers. We wanted to volunteer for a couple weeks, figuring it would be a nice place to reset, to get some beach time in, relax, and serve some drinks. The point manager was an arrogant jerk, attempted to steal money from the bar while we were working, and when I confronted him about it he attempted to pass it off with a smirk and basically told me to pay more attention, which is ridiculous. The bar manager was relatively nice, but she had a little clique of friends, so the instant any of them appeared on the scene, she dropped any conversation 100%, froze you out, and ignored you completely. This happened every single time and she often changed into speaking French. Then she has the temerity to accuse us of not being social enough. I have worked in several bars, during university and while travelling, and not once has that label ever been assigned to me. Some of the workers were very nice, but the clique of snobs quite ruined this hostel experience for us. So as a place to stay, it's ok, but don't expect to be treated like family, rather like paying cattle.

I stayed one night at the point hostel in mancora, it is a nice hostel and the working staff is friendly, the hostel has a good atmosphere and its fun staying there

the only downside was that i got robbed by the "security" guy who works there at night, i woke up at night and saw him in our dorm and the next day my money was missing, when i called the manager for the first time she told me that it was my fault because i didnt have a locker even though it was "her" security guy stealing my stuff and not a random backpacker.

for me its a shame that i had to solve the problem myself and talk to the security guy to get my money back, i talked to previous guests and they told me that they got stuff stolen too at that hostel hence it was not the first time that the "security" guy stole something. was the manager really too blind to realize that it was the security guy stealing stuff? i dont know, i just think its weird that she didnt fire that guy right away if it wasnt the first time that something like that happened

This place would have gotten a one star review. However, we went in knowing it was a 'party hostel' and that we weren't really 'party hostel people'. Therefore, we take some of the blame for our nightmare stay, but not all of it. Also, the staff who worked on the reception were very nice and helpful and the food they sold was good and reasonably priced.

We were going to stay for New Year but cut our stay short after one night. The place was full of Peruvian teenagers on holiday and only about three other travellers. This meant lots of shouting, arguing, crying, stomping around and general immaturity.

Also, the music went on all night long and started again early in the morning. We went to bed at 1am our first night, with the music due to go off at 2am, but this didn't happen until 3.30am. At that time, the teens came back from the bars and the motos they came in blasted music for a few more hours. They also played their own music at the nearby beach or simply talked loudly and argued in and around the room.

The rooms were hideously small. Eight beds were crammed in with no room for backpacks. The teens all had massive suitcases taking up loads of room too. The rooms were also without even a fan so were baking hot.

The bathroom facilities consisted of three horrible showers and toilets for 70-80 people. The bar staff cranked music out all day at maximum volume despite nobody wanting to listen to it. They threw each other in the pool and generally acted like idiots, whilst getting your order wrong because they were too drunk to do their job properly. Finally, it the blazing heat of Mancora in summer, this place offered very little seating or indeed any shade from the burning sun.

We got the hell out of there as quick as we could, hopping into Ecuador earlier than planned. But anything was better than one more sleepless night in this dump. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Really far from town. The staff was really unfriendly. I had to leave in the night. I paid a full night to stay several hours longer. The girl who was working complained because apparently there is not suppose to be check-outs after 9:00 p.m. (senseless rule) They took forever to check me in and even longer to check me out.

BE CAREFUL GIRLS!!!!!
Righ away we arrived at this hostel, It looked so comfy and beautiful!!
But unfortunately, there's a guy, who said to be the bar manager, called RUBEN. that ruins everything in this hostel, I really doubt he knows anything about his job, he just flirted with my friends since our arrival, It was so annoying but he does it with many more girls -esp the ones that travel alone- we saw many times how he wanted to take advantage of drunk girls-esp at night, even once he tried to put a
drunk girl into a room -apparently his room- but the girl didn't want to and left inmediately, this was a clear example of S. HARASSMENT, the poor girl was just throwing up in the bathroom, my friends and I tried to helped them and wanted to contact the boss but I think there is not a true boss at this Hostel, we also tried to call the police but we didn't know the number, we went to this hostel because a friend of us recommended the view... which is priceless but besides that I highly recommend people not to stay at this Hostel.
This guy harasses girls and take advantage of them, and this is so annoying when you just want to relax and have a good time.
I hope the owners do something, because locals where so friendly and easygoing with us that It's a shame that just for one person? (as far as I know from Venezuela, that's what he said) the job of others is ruined because the other employees were so good that I feel really bad for them.
This was our most horrible experience in this beautiful country.
We had more nights at this Hostel but after that night we were done.
