A few of us came here for lunch, although there is very limited options for vegetarians, the vegetarian sandwich was good. My mum also commented that the cobb salad was lovely! Great location and not too bad on price.

Would like to see more veggie options in the future.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch and the view was fabulous! We had fresh smoothies, hot cappuccino and empenadas. It really hit the spot after a surf lesson at their surf school, run by Pilar. The staff were friendly and low-key as you expect for the beach. Loved the vibe here!

I stayed here for 3 weeks. I needed a relaxing break and did this historical hotel deliver. Del Wawa named after a world class surfer who purchased this hotel right on the beach he surfed. Front rooms h--- yes. The ocean rumbles all night long and that is surfing music. I did the same as another traveler. Stayed the first night somewhere else then strolled down the beach and
wham, a gem from the past. Out my front door I could watch the surf and surfers ride by. The sand is white and the price appropriate. Compared the price to places in town and without the view, this is number one. Quiet because most of the young back packers are staying in that hedonistic chain hotel and I guarantee you the noise there will keep you up till 3. If that is what you want don't stay here. The food by the on site chef was better than any place I ate at in town. ANY, and I tried most of them. The best part was the staff. All of them. Not a friendlier group of people anywhere. Even the neighboring restaurant, hotel and surf shop was friendly.
If I could I would make this place home and all those I met my family. Yes, I am living in Canada and this place, these gentle and happy people, and the fabulous food makes me wish I were there. This country has it's governmental and financial problems yet they try and overlook all of this, to help us more fortunate, have a great time. Even the other guests were of like mind sets and that, I believe is because of the spirit of Wawa which still resides in his baby, the Del Wawa. Not a single complaint about anything. I will always miss being there.
Your brother from another country, George, I love you all.

Stayed here for 4 nights with my girlfriend.
Has the best spot on the beach and has it's own sun loungers, but...
We stayed in a bungalow on the front, we shared it with some cockroaches and hundreds of ants. The shower was poor, more of a trickle, the air con was a joke, you needed earplugs to sleep with it on. The room was £45 a night which is expensive for Peru. It does include breakfast which is just coffee, juice, bread and jam. I traveled all over Peru and I got much better accommodation, service and breakfast for half of what i paid here. Also even though the sun loungers should be for the hotel guests, the hotel seems to let anyone come in and use them. This hotel is only really any good for one thing and that's it's location...

As someone who has run bars and clubs in various parts of the world, it is always disappointing when you realize the venue you are in is scamming you on their supposed "happy hour."

My girlfriend and I were on holiday catching up with old friends she hadn't seen for ages, and we wanted a nice, chill place to drink some good drinks, kick back, laugh and talk.

After wandering the main strip, the beachfront area of Del Wawa seemed to offer the most promise, and it was happy-hour! We went for Mojitos, and basically got some kind of minted lemonade. It was impossible to taste any alcohol in any of these four drinks.

Even at "Happy-Hour" prices, these drinks were 12.50 Soles (about $4USD). The drinks were a disaster. We sent them back, and the guy (begrudgingly) squeezed a drop or two more alcohol into them, with a sour face to boot, in the process.

These clueless bar-operators actually think they are going to "win" something here, by conning people with a totally fake happy-hour scam. (As if the margins on the alcohol they're using aren't ALREADY high enough!). They have forgotten the golden rule ... and that is, that a bar is supposed to be a place for people to have a good time. If you know you're getting ripped off and tourist-scammed, a good time is pretty unlikely. And that's BEFORE you get attitude when you call them on it. :(

So we left after those drinks, and the place was basically empty apart from some young kids who appeared to be friends with the staff.

As a result, the venue immediately lost us as customers, and has now reaped this review, which I implore people to heed. Sometimes, if you are in a avenue that is honestly trying to boost its business and give patrons a little better value ... happy-hours can be fun, and worth it. But for the most part, especially in tourist-traps like Mancora, they are inevitably a scam.

The truth of the matter really, is that in such places, you're probably better off drinking artesanal beer or something which is quality, and the alcohol content is known. But needless to say, this is kind of a depressing solution, for those who enjoy punchy, well-made cocktails of any description.

Anyway, as an ex-hospo-pro, I can tell you that usually, when that kind of credo/attitude has been handed down from above, and is so evident in the bar ... that that kind of "rip-off-malaise" will generally extend throughout the venue at all levels, in many ways. Sad, but true.

So, keep this information in mind when considering this place.

This hotel is located on the best spot of Mancora's beach, the hotel integrates the beach into the hotel area so you feel connected to the beach in a private area. The surf point is a stones throw away from the rooms. You can the ocean crashing the shore from your room. They have amazing and friendly staff. I spent over two and a half weeks here and was thoroughly happy with my decision to stay here. The location is within 5 minute walk of the downtown Mancora area will you will find amazing food, chill lounges, or dance parties if your looking. The hotel has good vibe, not loud party party but once in while a dance party just might break out at the beach bar.

You wont regret staying here.

I came alone, i am a thirty year old Canadian man, I met countless friends at there in house beach bar and then we would stroll the town together, many good times, many good people.

We luckily stumbled upon Wawa after arriving at midnight. It was only when we woke the following day that we realised that we had happened to choose by far the best place in Central Mancora.

The hotel is on the southern side of the beach and is within about 100m of all the main beach bars (but still quiet at night). It's the third last hotel on the beach before the hotels become a bit more spaced out from each other and the beach becomes a bit less attractive. There are surf schools next door which are reasonable and well worth a try.

I learned that the place has been under new ownership for about a year and a half and looks as though it has had a complete revamp since the lukewarm review in the 8th edition Lonely Planet guide to Peru. Rooms were beautiful, staff were amazing, food was outstanding but most of all the space for eating / sunbathing / hanging out at Wawa is streets ahead of anything else on the beach.

Price wise, they quoted 170 Soles a night for a beachfront room but gave a discount as we were staying 5 nights. If this is in your price range and if you don't want to be miles from town and have to brave a bit of quiet beach at night, then Wawas is for you.

French owned hotel right at the beach in the centre of Mancora

Pros:
- good location
- nice room interior

Cons:
- although we made a reservation nobody knew about it (fortunately got a room anyway)
- staff is pretty unfriendly and seems not really interested in the guests
- to get food / drinks in the restaurant you have to go to the kitchen to order it, since nobody looks out for guests
- prices for food / drinks significantly higher then in surrounding places
- owners seem to be there for the surfing only, without caring about the hotel / restaurant
- floor in our room was so dirty that you got black feet after a single step on the floor
- construction site around (hammering noises all day)
- although wifi in the room is advertised, it was virutally not available in our room (at the back side)
- unlike stated in lonely planet not all rooms are on the beach side

Would not go there again

Everything about this place was horrible:

1. Showed up and the receptionist was too stoned to think. Took half an hour to figure out if there were rooms available.

2. Prices are in dollars and a very high exchange rate is given for soles. Hello this is Peru!

3. Receptionist is unfriendly and needs to change careers. Not a friendly person. Rude about the smallest things. Speaks no English.

4. The food is overpriced. There is horrible breakfast menu.

5. Check out is at noon but the cleaning lady will nock on the door all morning making it impossible to sleep.

6. There is little privacy. My room was missing a curtian... Everybody could see in. You can hear everything people are saying in the rooms next door. Very clearly!!

8. Was missing lightbulbs . Fan was broken. Toilet wouldn't flush. Basics.

9. Beds are horrible. Only a foam mat on top of a concrete platform. No springs. Hips and shoulders always pressed against the cement. Mosquitoes are bad.

10. My camera was stolen from my room. Nearly 1000 pictures gone! Very very sad.

10. Last bu
