Peru's beaches are not world class nor are they known for more than surfing and deep-sea fishing. However, if these activities or another reason take you to Peru's northern beaches, then Las Pocitas in Mancora is among your best bets.

Mancora has some of the best weather conditions in the region (warm waters from the El Niño current) and is less windy than Vilchayito, a beach south of Mancora. The waves are mostly knee high, except for high tide. The beach has soft sand and provides for miles of walking opportunities both ways. Plenty of palm trees create a tropical ambiance against a dry mountain backdrop.

While now Mancora counts with over a dozen good accommodation places, Las Pocitas offers the best balance. 22 rooms, all front row with direct access to the beach just a few meters away. 140mts of beach front and with enough beach so that even at high tide you have plenty of sand to lie on. (Note: most hotels in the area are too close to the water and don’t have a beach once high tide sets in! Las Pocitas and Puerto Palos are the few exceptions!). Abundant palm trees to provide a refreshing shade and a generous pool (a little “foggy” when we were there). The rooms are simple, yet clean and with all the basic amenities including hot water. The food is reasonable and priced accordingly.

A 20-minute walk north along the beach will take you to the port of Mancora, where you will find plenty of affordable restaurants and shops (mainly for tourists). Among the 2 best restaurants in the area and located just south of the port are: Cucina Amore at the 6 –room Sunset Hotel (good Italian yet quite expensive at about S/.110.00 per person without drinks) and Donde Teresa at the Hotel Hotelier (good Peruvian food, mid-price range).

Note that in the summer months (Dec – March) you’re likely to get short bursts of rainfall almost everyday and in the winter months you will need a windbreaker and light sweater for the evenings. The sun is very strong and you will need at least SPF 50!

Las Pocitas is a veritable paradise. Beautiful beaches, wonderful staff, good food. So near the beach! Stayed a week and wish we could have stayed longer. Best part of our trip to Peru.

This place is lovely. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the hotel is right on the beach. There is a hammock outside for each room, and plenty of beach chairs on the sand. At the time of our visit, it was not terribly crowded, which made for a peaceful, relaxing time.
The hotel restaurant remained open past their closing time for us when we arrived to the hotel a little late from town. The food was great. We had almost all of our meals there.
The pool was nice as well, and there's a bar right by it.
The rooms were clean. No air conditioning, but we had a ceiling fan and windows, which were fine. You can hear the waves crash from your room.
Overall a really delightful place. Walking the beach, we saw many other hotels, some of them quite luxurious, but frankly I'd choose Las Pocitas over any of them because it's rustic, charming, and just a very welcoming place. I definitely recommend it!

We have been here with whole family.
Nice front beach location, each room with a balcony and chairs.
Rooms decently decorated, basic breakfast (coffee, milk, bread with butter and fruit jam), need a mototaxi to get to the town, just few minutes ride.
Overall a good experience

Hotel: Fair service. No hot water. Good food. Basic room.
Mancora as a location: Cold Pacific waters. Beautiful sunsets. Relaxing place. Mancora little town is filthy and not worth visiting at all.
Beach: If you have ever been to the Caribbean you will not find it as nice. Otherwise, if you haven't. It is all a matter of what is an enjoyable beach place like to you.

We stayed here (south of mancora) after a friend insisted we NOT stay in town. Thank goodness. Mancora is dirty, and the beaches are gross. Here, however, it's lovely. There is no garbage in the water or on the beach. The staff keeps up the grounds. The bungalows sit 50 yards from the ocean. My only "complaint " is that there are tiny , tiny ants that get in the room and on the bed. After inquiring at the front desk, my husband just used DEET and sprayed it around the window and doors where they were coming in. Another issue for some could be that the rooms have no insulation. Fortunately we had the very end unit, and our kids were next to us. But when they turned on their tv, I could actually here the words. So, it wasn't a problem for us, but if we had been in a center room, I would have been troubled by hearing from next door. However, I'm sensitive to noise. Overall, this is a great place to stay. It's about a 30 minute walk on the beach into town , or you can take a "taxi" for 5 soles. We got a little tired of eating hers, so we frequently went into town.

First time in Mancora and I'm glad I went to this hotel right on the beach. Nice rooms, they are all located facing the ocean where you can see whales with a litlle luck. The service was great and the staff were friendly and always helping to make your stay even better. The food was awesome from breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can always relax right outside your room, at the beach or the swimming pool. At night you can enjoy a nice conversation and drinks around the fire pit.

We were a big group of family and friends, all our rooms were oceanfront, rustic yet very comfortable, we had a tv, wifi and all had their own terrace in front with 2 chais and a hammock, it was so relaxing, we slept with the noise of the waves crashing as the only distraction:) Very clean, excelent service, good breakfast included, we had ceviche served to us on the sand, it was great. We walk all over the beach to the north and south, rented jets skys, you could ride horses at the beach, I would come back happily

I was several times in MANCORA, is the best beach and town in the world!!!!!!!, and in this hotel like 3 o 4 times, the service is increible, the food amazing!!!, the staff didn't speak english, but is OK, they understand the basic.............
The bungalows are beach fornt, literally, you are steps from the sand, and at night, you can listen the sound of the waves..very quiet place, and relaxing......just be sure, to get inside your bungalow, before after the sunset, because is mosquito time!!, put some repelent and a very light sarong or cotton pant, and you are going to be OK, from here to town is a 10 min ride, in a "mototaxi" they call, very cheap, and adventure trip......you are going to love this place, like I do.

Incredible, every bungalow faces the beach. 10 minute rickshaw ride or 30 minute walk to town (not the prettiest stroll). Literally steps from the sand in perfect beach climate - no humidity, 12 hrs sun. Perfect beach, temperate water. First class service - mostly spanish only - they'll bring food to you on the beach. Ladies will drop by offering massages on the beach. And Mancora is one of the coolest towns in the world.

Not easy to get to, but you won't want to leave.
