This is a really welcome and beautiful location at the top of the Long Tom Pass. Room was nice but the food was really imaginative and excellent quality with an Afrikaans twist. Excellent beer brewed behind the bar. Despite being middle of summer it was nice to sit in front of the open fire as the cool mists came up the escarpment in the evening. We had a a great morning walk up the koppie (small rocky hill) behind the hotel with one of the friendly house border collie dogs joining us.

I did not stay here, just visited the pub on my way. The food was good, bit overpriced, the stout beer was yummy! Tried the draught but didn't really take to it. There are two other variants to try so next time... Watch the road when looking for this place, easy to flash past it and turning off can be a bit tricky at speed (loose gravel at the edge of the tar). All in all though a good rest stop on the way and of course new beers to sample.... Cheers!

Like others, we stopped for brews only and did not stay here. If you are seeking a quiet hotel between Joburg and Kruger, this would be one to consider. It is an attractive place, the owner was congenial and helpful, and the beers were good. Not all of our group liked all of the beers, but we all liked some of them and we all enjoyed our stop very much.

For our drive from Johannesburg to the Kruger region we planned a stop somewhere en route that would offer some overnight rest and relaxation and allow us rime to enjoy the Panorama route next day. We like to visit breweries when travelling so what better than the highest brewery in Africa up on the Long Tom Pass?

The booking was made months in advance directly with the hotel so I was a little surprised to find that we weren't expected when we pulled in. No worries though and we were escorted to a room looking out over the gardens. Apparently they were fully booked the following night so I'd rather not think about what might have happened if we'd turned up then. It might be worth confirming bookings before arrival because there's nothing else for quite a few miles around. Have to knock a point off for this I'm afraid.

Anyway, back to the facilities. We arrived on a hot day so the hard floor in the room was refreshingly cool. There is heating for cold nights though. Plenty of room and a comfy bed plus the usual facilities so just the job.

We didn't take long to get ourselves to the brewery itself. We were taken through a tasting of each of the available beers before selecting some to take into the garden and enjoy the sun. More beer was taken later with a tasty dinner. Service was friendly and efficient.

After a restful night and a good breakfast we were soon on our way. I can only think that our lost booking was an unfortunate oversight but everything was fine in the end. If you're looking for a place to pull over on the Long Tom Pass this is where you should be heading.

Welcome to the Highest brewery in Africa! (Second-highest in world)

RED RECEPTION

Adorned in boutique red with cattle horn mountpieces, this discerning atrium has character and a modern vibe.
The 2 family dogs rest peacefully and calmly at the entrance here, familiar with visitors and ignoring us completely.

LOCATION

Situated on the Long Tom passway on the way to/from Lydenberg (22km), this GEM BREWERY was a lovely surprise. As it was almost noon, we decided to stop for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful country house, which also functions as a B&B.

RESTAURANT BAR

Ntshangasen?/Colin (forgot name) is the master Brewster onsite, and enthusiastically gave us a beer tour. He was cheerful, bubbly and charming, giving us advice on choosing the 2 beer bottles we purchased. They also offer beer tasting in 5 mini-shot glasses. We ordered burger and fries, which were BIG mouthfuls and Amazingly DELICIOUS! The diet fries were astonishingly crispy and tasteful for their size and presentation.

It was winter and the lounge looks like one just from the ALPS with a massive centre fireplace. Would be cozy and comfortable at night or when the weather is colder. The design of the restaurant is European/German, and quite fitting for the BREWERY.
AWESOME INTERIOR DECORATING!

CRAFT BEER

Light, crisp-flavored beer emanating the full flavor, aroma, body, character which tasted almost floral and hoppy. The mouthfeel was fresh, refreshing and easy. This mini-brewery combines experience, science, art and passion!

GREAT BEER!

BEER OASIS!

We had planned to stop here for lunch en route, taking the longer more scenic route just to taste new beer. As we pulled into the drive, the mist was heavy and we were looking forward to the roaring fire and tasting some new craft beers. The parking lot sign said "Welcome, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays". It was Tuesday. We were very very disappointed. We'd read the reviews and checked out the website but nowhere had we read that they were closed on Tuesdays.

We stayed in Hops Hollow on our way back from Kruger to JoBurg. We were lucky to find this place as a last minute booking over easter.
The room was clean and fully functional. Maybe a bit overpriced...
The beer was really good, as was dinner, too. Overall a good place to stay one night if you want a nice break on the panorama route a bit away from the crowded touristic main spots. Take a walk to the top of the hill behind the house...this offers a great view over the area.
The hosts were great and very friendly, too, and we felt really welcomed there.

We had the privilege of stopping at this beautiful spot on the way back to Nelspruit from Dulstroom. We had some great food and beer tasting trays. The staff went out of their way to keep us happy and comfortable. Food was amazing and the beer even better. Looking forward to our next visit

Great place to take a break from driving, Dullstroom to Hazyview. Hard to find an IPA in South Africa, but we found decent beer. We had a taste, enjoyed the fireplace, and view... then continued to Hazyview.

We had such a fantastic overnight stay at Hops Hollow. The accommodation was fantastic, got upgraded to the superior room which was just fantastic. The food was really good and the drinks awesome (it is after all a brewery). Would highly recommend for a fantastic time!
