The place was clean and staff was friendly. I enjoyed my stay there. The food served during dinner was delicious. I will visit again should I be that side of the world. Great place, you can improve on the hot water. The water was luke warm in the bathroom from the shower to the basin water.

The service was great, the rooms were very clean, and the outside environment was quite relaxing. I was there for only one night, but I enjoyed being there, I had a great night. The place is just outside town, as someone who likes to be in touch with nurture, it was an ideal place for me.

I only have good comments about the friendly staff, excellent food and friendly management. Myself and two colleagues were staying for two days to attend a farmers day in the area and can really recommend this hotel to all visitors who need a safe haven with excellent service!

Response from Wessel V, Owner at Amani Boutique Hotel & Conference Centre
Responded 06 May 2015
Safety in tourism is extremely important to us. We have done everything possible to secure the perimeter of the property and installed cameras around the buildings. We are grateful to report that all our guests have always commented about the fact that they feel safe at Amani. We look forward to your next visit.

... which was really good, this place gets two stars. For the rest, something to forget soon. I get it, it is not a 5 star hotel, but still you can make it a lot better than it was.

Observations: strange reception, immediate comment my creditcard did not pass.. I book 60 rooms a year, and never heard this, but anyway, if at all, first welcome people.

The cd player played a cd of 40 years ago, first album of Smokie, for 4 hours, and the next morning at breakfast again. Spotify exists!
No shades in the rooms, so it gets light at 5 am. No airco, nobody in dining room when we came for dining, no white wine that was cold, only a bottle that was 30 degrees. Really?
A dog, or actually two, that were constantly barking, no pillows at the beds around the pool, a pool itself that looked really dirty.
Very noisy rooms, you could hear the owner talk downstairs all the time, bad dinner, nothing attractive for breakfast. Let me stop here

So, advise, skip this one. Advise to the owners, really easy to do better than this. Most of it will cost nearly nothing to improve.

Worst accommodation experience ever. Extremely unfriendly staff. Unwelcome from arrival. Room very dirty and smelly. Felt like a servant's backroom. No food or drinks available. Definitely looks NOTHING like the pictures. Decided to leave and find alternative accommodation after half an hour. Not even worth 1 of the 4 star rating this establishment claims to have.

Made and paid my booking through Booking.com a couple of weeks ago. Drove the 4 hours to Lydenburg. When I arrived at the hotel one of the ladies of management informed me that they didn't have a room for me. When I said that it was not what I wanted to hear she said it was also not what tourists wanted to hear after being 14 hours on a plane. It was the worst reception I ever received and I will not recommend the hotel to anybody... You might not have a room that your booked and paid for and you might get a cocky attitude...

Amani Boutique Hotel is a new spot in the suburbs of Lydenburg, away from the noise of the main street. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble and plan to do even more. They're currently busy installing a swimming pool and want to build a spa onsite too in the future.

I arrived at Amani before my husband and parked under one of the carports that have been erected inside the property for guests. I was told that because there honeymoon suite was not being used, we'd been upgraded to it from one of the business suites. The room is beautifully furnished with a jacuzzi bath ensuite, as well as all the little extras one expects from an upmarket 4-star establishment.

I was offered a cappuccino and when I asked if they had decaf coffee available, the owner said she'd run out, but quickly popped down to the corner store to get some more for me. I'm always impressed when people are willing to make the extra effort and at Amani, nothing seemed like too much trouble for the owners and staff.

There's no WiFi in the honeymoon suite, so I sat and worked in the conference room, which was also well kitted out with anything a business group might need. Being an animal lover, I was glad to have the company of a purring cat, although the staff were willing to shoo it outside if I wished.

The garden is new, so it still needs to do some growing, but the effort that has gone into it is already apparent. The owners are clearly animal lovers too, with horses, dogs, cats and buck on the property. We were there in winter, but I imagine the view out over the fields in summer is magnificent.

We opted for dinner at the establishment, as Lydenburg has little by way of restaurants. The owner was quite apologetic in explaining the cost of a meal (I can't quite remember, but I think it was R140pp), but we felt it was well worth it for a three-course menu that included a glass of wine or soft drink.

The dining area, like the rest of the building, is tastefully decorated. Candles were lit, soft music was playing and we felt like we were on holiday, despite being on a business trip. The food was absolutely delicious - real winter comfort food. The chef was pleasant and helpful and our only complaint was that the menu was not explained beforehand. As we are not fussy eaters, this was not a problem, but I imagine that for people with food allergies, it might be an issue.

We absolutely loved our short stay at Amani, and when we're next in Lydenburg we'd certainly choose to stay there again. The owner is (very) talkative and tends to gush, but she is incredibly helpful and all the staff have been well trained to makes guests feel at home.

As with any very young establishment, there are little things that need fixing, but the owners are open to feedback and willing to change things as necessary.

We arrived at Amani after a five hour drive. We stood at reception for a while and no staff came to see to us, even though people could see us standing there. Eventually we phoned Amani so that a staff member would be forced to come to reception to answer the phone and therefore we could speak to someone. The owner ignored us; walked straight past us without saying a word - not even a greeting. A receptionist then came (to answer the phone) and told us that they had overbooked and therefore there were no rooms for us. We were then directed to alterative accommodation elsewhere. We were forced to return to Amani for dinner as it has already been arranged by the travel agent. No table had been set up for a group of 4 people and were 4 people that they knew were coming for dinner. We were forced to move the tables around ourselves so that we could sit together. The drinks we ordered never came.

Very serene place to get away from the big city. Enjoyed my stay. Friendly staff and a good breakfast menu. Ample parking space available and probably one of the best sleeps I've ever had. We will be back. Thank you!

We had been been booked into atrocious accommodation over a long weekend and needed a place to stay - fast!
Luckily, the kind folks at Amani squeezed us into the two double rooms in front of the establishment.
Even though slightly removed from the main hotel building, we had no complaints.
The rooms are nicely equipped, with flatscreen TV, large bed (note: 2 singles stuck together) with good mattress and FANTASTIC toilet & shower (no bath). Coffee and tea are also provided, as well as a fridge.
We had dinner there on the first night and the food was perfectly acceptable and service was attentive and friendly.
The breakfasts are a treat - the usual suspects are all there - well presented and tasty. A Jura coffee machine with decent beans made a huge difference from the usual "sludge" offered as coffee in most SA establishments.
We had two breakfasts and both were excellent.
There is also a pool in front of the hotel and we had a lovely swim one afternoon.
I would very highly recommend this establishment, particularly since the proprietors make huge effort to ensure that every need is catered for.
Considering the other accommodation available in the area, this hotel outperforms!

Finally, AVOID THE ROAD BETWEEN LYDENBURG AND MACHADADORP (R36) - it is badly potholed and incredibly dangerous.

Two small points for the proprietors: down pillows in the bedrooms would be a welcome addition and dimming the lights in public areas (dining room and outside area facing the pool) would enhance the ambience greatly.

hi is yhis place pet friendly
Answer from Wessel V
Lydenburg, South Africa
At Amani we love pets. We have 3 horses, a yorkie and 2 cats at Amani. If arranged ahead of time we can ensure that you get a room at garden level. Obviously we can only cater for small pets that are controlled by their owners. We do not have staff available that can take care of the pets, but you and your pets are welcome.
