Good food, great staff, fantastic adventure! Those were some of the most friendly and hospitable people I have ever encountered. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. There is lots to do onsite. We did a night hike in the rainforest, zip lined across the jungle, hiked up Antelope Falls (250 feet) and propelled down, swam in a natural swimming on top of antelope falls, saw howler monkeys and went off site for activities as well. A few of us got sick the second day, not sure if it was the water by the zipline. We all had diarrhea and they weren't sure why so they sent the water to get tested and changed out the water and filters on the property. They were very attentive to us. We were checked on constantly. They brought food to our rooms, immodium and pedialyte and took us to the clinic to get checked out. Even with all of that, we still had a great trip. If you can deal with no AC (ceiling and floor fans in rooms) it is definitely worth it. Shout out to Chelsea, Emelio, Javier, Victor, Chavon, George and Pressley. You're the best! …
Our stay at Bocawina was the first stop of our Belizean honeymoon and we are soooo glad we added this stay to our trip. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and supportive. George and Javier in particular took great care of us during our stay. We only got to stay for two nights but we got to do so much because of how accommodating they were with our schedule and what we wanted to do. We got to hike, visit Mayan ruins, and zip line all within 48 hours. It was an excellent place to stay and I highly recommend making Bocawina a part of your trip to Belize!!
The jungle is not for the faint of heart, but Bocawina has a way of making even the weakest stronger and more determined. Maybe it has something to do with rappelling down the side of a waterfall, or spotting a poisonous coral snake and elusive margay with the expert eyes of George during a night hike, but this eco-resort fortifies one's resolve to understand why places like this are so important for the future protection of Belize's nature. Emotions run the circuit with the historical tours to Mayan ruins of sacrifices and hallucinogenics to cave tubing tours of the Mayan underworld and somber beauty right under our feet. Just when you think you're going to burst with all this experience, Javier and the Bocawina kitchen staff quiet the soul with local, organic, thoughtfully prepared meals at the Wild Fig restaurant, while Javier graciously shares stories about the birds and butterflies flitting around the property. After some quiet time and delicious food, George emphatically will help to recharge your soul by providing all the facts you could ever care to know about flora, fauna, food, and life antidotes about the country he obviously loves and will help you fall in love with as well after visiting Bocawina. …
The resort was somewhat nice, the people were friendly however they failed to be transparent about how dinner/breakfast should be charged. Upon my arrival, I was like forced to have dinner, I was awkward and didn’t want any dinner. Didn’t know how to say no as I was trying to be nice. The price was posted and in my professional opinion, ridiculously expensive. I stayed humble and ate along. The lady over there said to come for breakfast. The price on breakfast was not even posted and I had no idea. Ridiculously expensive for this kind of breakfast. The point of this review is to be please transparent at all times and expect the customers like to pay if we want, not force us or mislead me to dinner where I didn’t want to. I would not suggest anyone to stop by unless you don’t mind paying more and be firm if you don’t want any meal of theirs.…
The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The staff was amazing, especially Chelsea, Yasmin, Esley, Javier and Mr. Presley. They were extremely accommodating. It’s a great location , It’s also near the bus drop off route. The food and the drinks were amazing. Will definitely recommend and return here.
Bocawina was such an amazing adventure! We spent two nights here and that certainly wasn't enough. We caught the Floralia bus line to get there and the staff were kind enough to pick us up from the terminal. We arrived a bit late to do some of the main activities, so that first evening was spent just walking around the grounds - which are gorgeous. We had an early dinner at the Wilf Fig restaurant at the resort and couldn't be more satisfied. The service was great and the food - everything we had that weekend was delicious! We could tell that fresh ingredients were used too. On the second day, we got up early and decided to hike the shortest trail that led to a waterfall. We were inexperienced hikers, so did not want to overdo it. It's definitely easy for beginners, and they have a few trails like this that lead to diff waterfalls to explore. Once we got to the water it was heavenly. The ice-cold water was actually therapeutic for me and totally rejuvenating for the hike back. We had to leave early the following day, which was a bummer - but the staff were aware of our bus schedule and did everything to make the rest of our stay enjoyable and hassle free. Including getting our bfast order for the following morning beforehand, so they could have it ready. The hotel room on the first night was very cool and airy - didn't miss the AC at all. On the second night the air was a bit more humid, but we managed with the standing fan provided. The beds were heaven, and we had no trouble falling asleep. This was our first visit to Bocawina, but certainly won't be our last! There are so many activities to do here on-site, but they also make arrangements for other fun activities available nearby. Such a gem.…
Bocawina is an amazing spot! We traveled here for our honeymoon and had so much fun adventuring every day. The price was incredibly affordable and the staff were thoughtful and kind! DONT FORGET BUGSPRAY! We stayed in a thatched roof cabana and enjoyed it very much. The Jungle is hot and sweaty so if you're looking for fancy air conditioning and a place to relax on your phone this isn't the place for you- if you're looking for a unique stay filled with an adventure though, they have you covered! We did the antelope rappeling, zip-lining, birding and night hike on site. All were amazing and each guide was incredibly informative about the different plants and animals of the jungle. We also hiked on our own, which was easy since all of the trails are right near the resort! For our off site tours we chose the cave tubing & chocolate tour and upgraded to the ATM cave which was worth EVERY PENNY! The menu was somewhat limited for a 5 day stay and we found ourselves eating the same things most of the time- That being said they went above and beyond to accommodate a vegetarian diet on our last day which was greatly appreciated. …
Fabulous trip. Island expedition travel agency and staff was above our expectations. The tours and activities were unbelievable thanks to George. Every meal was great. George is an excellent guide and went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend ATM tour and Mayan Ruin tour. The entire staff was friendly and accommodations were perfect.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, always supportive. The accommodations were beautiful, the grounds were well maintained and the food delicious. Tours and hikes were beautiful. Great experience.
Our trip was above our expectations. The rainforest was beautiful and the activities offered were great. The care and professionalism of the adventure staff made me very comfortable zip lining and repelling. We were so appreciative of our service all around and great food. Loved our garden view hut. Grounds were beautiful. Didn’t get everyone’s names but big thanks to Jerry, Jasmine, Kayla, Chevon, George, Victor, Tony…and many more amazing staff!!!
