If you are looking for a place to recharge your batteries, then book one of the Kingfisher Cottages. You will not be disappointed. The cottages were opened in December 2019, made of 90% natural clay, 10% stone, sand and straw so it is naturally cool or warm depending ont he weather. The built in cast iron fireplace was such a saving grace since the weekend we booked was rather chilly in the evenings.

There is no cellphone reception at the cottages, so it is the best way to switch off from the pressures f life, social media and rest of the world.

They Harms Family have built these cottages that are completely off the grid. The water is from the natural water in the mountains, there is solar polar and they even have a hydro turbine. They recycle and the cottages come with dry compost toilets.

There is an eco pool built out of an old reservoir, the water comes form the mountain and is filtered 3 times naturally in sand filters. The pool has tiny fish to subr algae growth and they even come to nibble on your toes if you stand still for long enough.

We had such a relaxing stay, it was like a special retreat away fromt he hustle and bustle. My 3 year old loved hiking and exploring the different trails.

We hiked, enjoyed wonderful flowers, watched the stars and we amazed at the innovation and determination that has created the trout hatchery. We caught a beautiful trout, cleaned and vacuum packed for us to take home and bought a full house of superior trout products. The trout and flowers made this a trip to remember.

We stayed for 2 nights. The area is beautiful. You can do some nice MTB rides on some jeep tracks. Kids were entertained by the fishing in the farm dam, one of the farm dogs who stayed with us most of the time, the peaceful eco pool. The cottage was great and remained reasonably cool during the day. The trout farm is also very interesting, with its intricate water filtration & recycling system.

We had such a wonderful stay at Kingfisher Cottages. I was very impressed how well this eco-lodge has been set up. Our stay was very comfortable and exactly what we were looking for to unplug and recharge before taking 2021 head on. We only managed 1 hike, but had the best star gazing night. Their eco-pool was perfect to cool down in (remember that it is eco, so don't let the little bit of algae put you off). Overall loved our 3 nights there and would definitely return and recommend it.

The most impressive thing here is that the entire establishment is environmentally friendly and "off the grid"! How refreshing!
The effort that the owners have gone to in order to create a unique, pristine and beautiful place is evident in every area. The rooms are fresh, neat and comfortable. The road there is stunning and you feel as if you are the only people for miles around. The friendliness, care and professionalism of the staff cannot be faulted. I cannot wait to go back!

We really enjoyed the weekend we stayed here. It's so peaceful and quiet. Accommodation was very cozy and clean, my son enjoyed fishing in the trout dam and the fishing tips from Grandpa Uwe and the little fossil hunting trail. Our dog was very pleased by the friendly reception of the two household dogs too. We look forward to visiting again.

This was the best gem that you could find to stay ,The chalet was beautifully furnish with every thing that we needed for our stay. It was very peaceful, quiet and off the grid with amazing views. Our chalet had a hot tab and we love that. Great fresh water to drink.. We order smoke trout to enjoy and it was delivered to our chalet. Went for walks on the different trails..

Wow.....all I can say is the photos really don't do it justice. We have stayed near by so are not virgins to the surrounding beauty that is Montagu, however this time was something different. an eco cottage with a touch of finesse. The decor, the attention to detail was really appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble, will extra logs for sale, recycling and rubbish facilities and even the hot tub drained and cleaned for you every couple of days. The entire place is so well thought out and beautifully done.
If I could offer one suggestion, not a criticism is better pillows and a few cooking essentials (salt and pepper and some cooking oil), just for when you arrive.
That said we will DEFINITELY be back if not for the chilaxing stay then for a few more cuddles with Anni the adorable German Setter.

We spent 7 nights over Christmas at the Pied Kingfisher Cottage (best location in my opinion as at the top end of the row and closest to the eco pool).
My 72 + 66-year-old in-laws managed the walks to Echo Pools, East Sundowners and Leopard trails with their walking sticks and we all enjoyed the tour of the sustainable trout farm, learning about the area and fish farming.
The cottage is finished with everything you need, and the quality of the furnishings are top class. The view from the house is next level and we enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets from the porch, braai'd often and only went into Montagu to stock up on groceries.

Order the trout for a delicious treat on warm days, as well as for when you are home!

Do you recharge yourself,as much as you recharge your phone. Then Recharge yourself at Two Dam,wake up with the smell of fynbos, and relax in the Eco pool, with a free fish spa treatment.
The only thing missing is a fan,for those warm summer nights.
