I booked through booking.com having failed in previous days to speak to anyone - messages left but was not called back. On booking an automated welcome email was received. I replied, asking my questions about showers and access to the pool (we are elderly and one of us is disabled) but no reply was forthcoming.
In my room (7) there is no light in the toilet, just a fitting dangling from the ceiling.
Went for a walk without my key (housekeeping had it); bell on gate not working; just heard a message saying it needed to be reset. Fortunately someone heard me and opened the gate.
Free WiFi is offered but is really inadequate.
The soap dispensers in bathrooms are not checked though the bathrooms are well designed. Likewise the fridge: had I needed ice, I could not have accessed it as the ice compartment was frozen solid.

Modern hotel rooms and adjacent stylish old guest house with very helpful staff, lovely breakfast and only one other couple there besides us. Almost too quiet: the hotel rooms were closed, only two rooms in the guest house were occupied. A little eerie... The bath tub is IN the room and a toilet in the closet (not entirely what we expected...). Showering means you shower the room as well... But the beds are comfy, the location is wonderful, the staff extremely nice, the breakfast very tasty and the price not bad at all.. and here is a great restaurant (22 Church) next door. So: quirky but comfy, a good place to stay.

My family and I visited Montagu over the December 2023 holidays. Despite it being peak season and all family rooms being occupied, MonteVista Boutique Hotel was able to accommodate us and make an arrangement for our daughter to share a standard room with us. The hotel was immaculate, beautifully decorated, serene and the staff were very attentive yet discreet. The grounds were full of lovely flowers and fragrant herbs and the sparkling pool area was the perfect place to spend a lazy, hot afternoon. Breakfast the following morning was a delight and served beautifully to suit each individual's needs. Keep shining Monte Vista!

We booked directly and paid upfront for 3 nights after seeing great reviews and pics posted for this hotel. When we arrived we were told hat they could not provide a full service and that the hotel would effectively be closed from 6pm that night. This was not disclosed when we booked. We were obviously disappointed and complained to the manager who was away at the time. After several emails and eventually posting on Fb they responded and refunded 2 out of the 3 nights.

This Boutique Hotel is perfectly located to explore everything Montague has to offer. The gardens are immaculatly kept and very inviting.

The room is spacious with coffee station and large en-suite bathroom. The lights and wifi are provided on a back-up system during loadshedding which is a really appreciated.

The staff were professional, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was scrumptious and served by the friendly staff.

I highly recommend a stay at Monte Vista for a relaxing, treat-time !

We spent 3 nights there. We liked the relaxed atmosphere and the unobtrusive manner of the attendants. The pool was very good and the surrounding was clean. The hotel is perfectly located in the center of Montagu, the cleanest town in whole South Africa. Short ways to other places where we went to.
I would recommend to offer Kleenex tissues in the bath room, what we consider as a standard for a hotel of that category.
Congratulation

We have spent quality time for the second time at the lovely, well run Monte Vista Boutique Hotel at Montagu. This is without doubt one of the finest establishments of its kind in the Western Cape.
All units are very tastefully - and intelligently - appointed, you can clearly see the handwriting of the charming and hands-on owner-architect Amike. The mattresses and the bedding are absolutely top notch, very comfortable and luxurious. We slept like babies.
Then the lovely garden and pool, what a nice surrounding to relax and recharge.
The breakfast was one of the best we ever had, the waiter was warm and professional at the same time, and we had the chance to exchange ideas with the owner, who is constantly putting so much love and effort into this house, clearly the project of her heart!
All in all, there is nothing to fault, we shall not only be back, but we shall recommend this wonderful house to our friends as well.

We're seasoned travellers to South Africa. We've stayed in some pretty smart hotels and some pretty awful ones over the years but we found something special in Monte Vista.
Previously we'd just passed through Montagu but this time we decided to stay for a couple of nights and were made welcome by Amike and her team in the middle of a power outage. We were shown to our room which could have graced any five start hotel - simple, stylish and very comfortable following a recent refurb.
The rooms overlook lovely gardens with a pool, right in the centre of the town.
We were very well looked after without the feeling of intrusion.
They only do breakfast but they do it well and there's an honesty bar for the thirsty. Amike recommended and booked us into nearby restaurants which were half the price and twice as good as in the UK.
it's a delightful little town and we'd repeat the whole experience like a shot.
This has to be one of the best small hotels in South Africa.

What a pleasure it was staying a night at Monte Vista Boutique Hotel in Montagu. The property’s central location in Montagu makes it super easy to walk to most of the town’s nicest restaurants.
The hotel’s rooms are exceptionally clean, beautifully furnished and decorated, and remain wonderfully cool inside, even when it’s nearly 40°C outside (and it can get very hot in Montagu). The sparkling pool surrounded by lush lawns and manicured gardens is also a great place to beat the heat. To top it all off, the friendly hotel team always go out of their way to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

We stayed one night in Montagu at this hotel, which is modern and on one level, with easy access from the parking area. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with a very comfortable bed and good shower. The gardens and pool area are very pretty - the lawn is exceptional !! A very adequate breakfast was served by order, freshly cooked and tasty. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall a very pleasant stay.
