The Albergue is quite good, as you would expect an Albergue on the Camino, or even a bit better. The Restaurant named Hilario which I understood is not of the same owner, is just too expensive and not to recommend at all. Not the service nor the food. We had much better value in a lot of other places on the Camino. So if you have a choice, just forget about it.
The walk out of Coimbra is quite unpleasant so it’s just nice to find a place to rest for the night. And Residencial Hilario is just another nondescript stop on the Camino. It’s fine for the night, but you won’t remember anything about it.
Difficult to find a better place to stay. Very comfortable room with ensuite for Eur20. Good restaurant next door. Excellent service from both. Bom Camino. Clean. Laundry facilities. Right next to the Camino. Highly recommended by grumpy old man who normally finds something to grumble about.
The gentleman who checked us in was VERY friendly and offered us water on our arrival. Our private room was clean and roomy with great air conditioning. The 3 euro laundry service was a great deal on the Camino. The restaurant is run by different owners.
We ordered fresh roasted pig and instead got served a plastic tasting microwaved dish! We even asked before we ordered if the roasted pig was freshly made, twice to make sure, to wihich we were told we'd have to wait a bit more for the dish since it was just getting out of the oven... These are dishonest people trying to make an easy buck out of mealhada's traditional famous roasted pig... stay away please!
