Situated on Zanzibar’s picturesque North East coast overlooking the turquoise Indian Ocean, it is as the name suggests, a little piece of paradise. From your arrival at Zanzibar Airport, the resort is a meandering 45-minute journey through un-spoilt scenery, passing typical African villages where the way of life has changed little for hundreds of years. At Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa, you will be greeted by a blaze of colors as you sweep down the imposing driveway passing through the entrance gate. You will be captivated as you arrive in the reception to discover a view over the resort and the azure blue sea. Mature coconut palms swinging in the breeze, white sandy beach, beautiful landscaped gardens, traditional style round chalets with pitched makuti roof, a stunning waterfall feature and one of the largest swimming pools in Zanzibar are just some of the sights that await you. A big smile and the greeting of “Jambo” will be the first words you hear, as you begin to feel the warmth that the people of Zanzibar are famed for.

We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful hotel. What made it very special to us next to the fantastic food and the beautiful location was the kindness of the staff, it felt like everyone wanted to make us feel comfortable and create the most amazing holiday for us. We never experienced this level of honest service orientation before. Special thanks to Scott from Scottland who is doing a fantastic job managing the Food and Beverages department and beyond. The highlight of our vacation was the marriage proposal at the beach - the full team supported intensively on this and created a wonderful memory for us. Thank you so much! Highly recommended this hotel for couples who wants to spend a relaxed time together.

We arrived to find our superior garden room beautifully decorated with flowers and a bowl of lovely fruit as it was our wedding anniversary ! The rooms are large well equipped and kept spotless ! At night there is a turndown service to spray the rooms and position the mosquito nets (hardly saw a bug anywhere in hotel for entire holiday ) We were all inclusive and Food was excellent starting from breakfast which was served at the Ocean restaurant on reception level ! At lunchtime it was al a carte in the main poolside restaurant or on some days a barbecue at the beach front a fantastic selection at either ! Afternoon tea was served by the beach between 16.30 and 17.30 . Dinner was themed buffet also at poolside restaurant with fantastic entertainment ! Service was excellent everywhere ! The hotel has its own area of private beach where the sellers are not allowed with ample shade and a fantastic waiter making sure your drinks are topped up ! The Bahari bar up at reception level has a great relaxing atmosphere and was perfect for an evening drink or watch a film if you wanted ! We did the hotels own two trips to the local village and out on to the reef with the fantastic Festo . Just two points to mention could do with more toilets for beach front and a equipped courtesy room for late departure ! Thank you all for a fabulous holiday and please stay safe in these challenging times !

We enjoyed our stay so much last year after our Safari that we decided to return just for a beach holiday this year. We certainly weren’t disappointed and the hotel provided fruit and flowers in our superior room on arrival a very nice touch and much appreciated. Being on the ground level is definitely worth the extra. My only negative about the room is the shower curtain would be better with a shower screen. We stayed on an all inclusive basis which is worth it. The food is very good and varied with a different theme every night. The lunch is a la carter and all cooked to order. The service everywhere was superb and my compliments to all the staff who were so helpful and efficient must make a special mention of the beach waiter Venusto who always remembered what we liked to drink nothing was too much trouble. We walked along the beach every evening and were never unduly troubled by the Masai as long as you were polite to them they left us alone. We visited the local village and took some exercise books and pens and pencils for the school which were gratefully received.
We would love to return in the future to this little piece of paradise.

On arrival late evening the welcome was warm and very accommodating to arrange a meal for us. The ambiance is excellently in context to African style, our room was tired decoratively however kept very clean.
As all inclusive and access to a minibar in the room, the contents were not replenished daily even though we hardly utilised the service. Meal times appeared rushed to remove finished cutlery, getting another drink was problematic at these times and within the pool bar a lack of resources was evident.
The staff were extremely friendly throughout our stay and the food varied each day was very tasty.
A different band played each evening and a pleasure to be entertained by, even with the constant need for the animations guy to keep getting on stage with them a great guy but why?
Upon the Ocean Beach was spoiled when venturing beyond the safety of the Hotel border. Beach Boys and Massi prowling even waiting for people to come out of the Ocean to try the hard sell of trips or local produce.
We had a wonderful stay at the resort, sadly the services are impacted by lack of great resources.

Dear Martin0564 Thank you for taking the time to write a review and sharing your experience with your fellow travellers on this platform. We are pleased to read that you have enjoyed your stay at Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa. Thank you for bringing the matter of the slow service at the bar under our attention. We will bring this matter under the attention of the Food & Beverage Manager Our team aim and efforts are 100% guest satisfaction to alleviate any concerns on the spot. The local “Beach Boys” and “Massai” is part of the local community living in poor circumstances trying to make a living selling their handmade artifacts alongside the coastal regions. All beaches in Zanzibar are public beaches therefore it’s beyond the control of the hotels and resorts of Zanzibar to restrict the movement of “beach boys” along the coastal regions as it’s against the law to restrict movement in public areas. However we do have a private beach area within the resort restricted with a railing between the public beach and resort beach area to allow our guests private relaxation while gazing over the turquoise waters of the Indian ocean. We will share the message with the team. Thank you for choosing Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa. Asante Sana. Warmest Regards Bernd Brandt & Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa Team

I'm always a bit grumpy after travelling for 14+ hours. And arriving at a resort at night, tired is never good, especially when you are trying to have some food when service is about to shut....

But this was the only negative of our 6 night stay.

The OPRS is not new, probably about 15 years old and in terms of refurbishment levels, could do with a bit of an upgrade. It reminded me of the Carribbean 30 + years ago - aboslutely no bad thing!

But it's location is excellent, the buffet food, varied and the staff as friendly as any IO have come across in any part of the World. Stand out members include Grace, Jane and Venus....

Yes there are a few Masai hawkers on the beach, but be polite and have a chat and they really are no problem. The beach gets a bit of seaweed now and again, however the pool area and the sand near the beach are pristine in condition.

We went AI and this was worth it as prices are a little high and I would recommend.

A super trip to Stone Town a must and also why not go to Mnemba Island and the Rock Restaurant? All in all a great stay and yes, would go again without a doubt if ever in the area again.

I have never bonded with hotel staff as I did in Ocean Paradise Beach Resort. Every place I walked into, the staff was always cheerful and very friendly. I really had fun on my birthday dinner, thanks to the animation team who made everyone around join in for the birthday dance. The same team was also active during the day with lots of games to play .

Service was very good and the security is guaranteed 100%. The manager was always there to listen and was so considerate.

The rooms are spacious and super clean. After dinner, I’d always walk into my room with bed spread, curtains closed, mosquito net down and lights on bringing that warm and cozy atmosphere.

The maasai security at the beach was so friendly and was always on the look and would stop the beach boys from interrupting the guests.

Also, the pool bar attendants were so indulging and funny as I could ask them if it was too early to order a cold one lol. They could always remind me that I’m on holiday and I should feel free to order anything anytime. After all, it’s always 12 o’clock somewhere in the world lol.

I actually shade a tear as I was leaving. I didn’t want to leave the hotel as well as the amazing staff I had bonded with. I highly recommend Ocean Paradise Beach Resort and y’all should thank me later. Will be back soon, God willing 🙏🏾

We chose this hotel due to the good reviews. After a 6 day Safari in Tanzania, Zanzibar was the ideal place to relax. The resort was lovely. Food was excellent. The evening shows were great. Make sure you take enough essentials as the on site shop only stocks limited items. The resort is not ideal for kids or those who find it difficult to get up and down stairs. The breakfast is served in the main building. If you are staying in the Rondaval type lodges then you have a fair few steps. The staff were great. I recommend going all inclusive. Every day at 10am there is activities arranged. We did the village tour and reef tour. Make sure you have beach shoes, sea urchins etc in the sea. When the tide comes in the sea is a few feet from the boundary. However when it's out there is a 1.5km walk to the reef. The only excursion we did was a visit to StonecTown. Considering it's world heritage place not really impressed with the town, other than seeing Mercury's birth place.
The one thing that really annoyed me was the fact they wanted to charge us $95 to keep the room on till 6pm. Checking out was 12pm. The fact there was nobody coming and people were cancelling due to Coronovirus, and it had the feel of a ghost town I would have expected a bit of common sense and good will considering what was going on in the world. We were fortunate to get home just !! I hope the remaining guests managed too.

As a family of four, we spent 10 nights at Ocean Paradise and absolutely loved it.
From the minute we arrived till the minute we left, there was never a dull moment. We met some of the most lovely, friendly and warm staff, always eager to please. Namely the Animation staff and Angelina, my new best friend :)

There were planned activities each day, which was a delight. I especially enjoyed how the staff interacted with the guests, whilst also encouraging us to take part in the activities.

The resorts section of the beach was pristine and nicely fenced in from the main beach, so locals could not venture in. I enjoyed relaxing there under the shade or trees. There were more than enough sunbeds, no need to reserve any. There are also sunbeds by the pool, a short distance away.

Breakfast was good. Lots to choose from. Freshly squeezed fruit on demand. Would have been nice if they had a coffee station, rather than someone walking around with a coffee flask.
Dinner was always a treat, with live music and cultural displays. The food was great. Each evening was themed i.e seafood night, Asian night etc, but there was always something to chose, if you didn't like the evening themes.

Our room was spacious with a balcony and two chairs and a table, at the back of the resort, up a hill, but with good views of the resort.

The resort is quite a distance from any other restaurants or markets etc. You would need a taxi to get around.

Some of the things I think could be improved upon would be, the cleaning of the rooms, though done, but not thoroughly. One time we returned to the room to find it had been cleaned, but there was still sand on the table and desk as well as the bathroom floor. I had to clean it myself, but the sand in the bathroom was never cleaned until we left.

The toiletries were not what I would have expected. The soap did not lather neither did the shower gel, which was quite disappointing. There was no body lotion, which, I also thought was a bit odd as there was shampoo & conditioner. Luckily, we brought some with us.

Perhaps the resort could provide the cleaners with some buggies to wiz around the property to help with the seemingly heavy loads of dirty towels and sheets I would see them logging uphill with wheelbarrows.

Overall, our holiday, was one we will also remember and look forward to returning someday.

The resort is quite hilly, so I wouldn't recommend someone with mobility issues, stay in the rooms at the back of the property. There are bungalow style rooms nearer the beach with easy access.

The resort is well catered for in every aspect.
I stayed in one of the houses and it was perfect. Cleaned daily and beds turned back with mosquito spray in the evenings.
The food was excellent and we had a good choice. I stayed half board.
The staff couldn’t do enough for you and were not pushy.
The resort has plenty to do if you want entertainment around the pool and there are places to park along the beach if you want the quiet.
We had a great week relaxing with a few trips out. Boat trip out to snorkel with the dolphins was well worth it - I was lucky to have a real close up swim with them. Stone Town also a good day out to see the local life.

We had one of the most extraordinary experiences at this resort. We were there during mid-September 2020 and the resort was not at all busy and staff was more than happy to see us. Beach area is divided in 2, the public part and the private part. The private part was always protected by staff and from what we could gather from a walk on the beach is not the case of all hotel/resort in the area.

Staff made sure we were treated like royalties, arranging special stuff at every turn (diner all alone on top of the fountain, changing the date of the Swahili diner so that we could try it before leaving, etc.). Staff also made sure we were respected in our "privacy", as there was not a lot of customers it would have been easy to always disturb us but they were really respectful but always present if we needed something.

Food was always good with a lot of varieties and portions were always huge. Accommodation was clean, recent/well maintained. All the small detail was always taken care of and I cannot recommend this resort enough, if we could we would have double our stay to it enjoys it more!

If u don´t have AI it´s can get more expensive of course especially if you are buying beer oder wine i think it was something about 4$ for water and 5$ for beer but i´m not sure.

Thank you for your question. Yes, knee length chino shorts will be permitted with a polo or golf shirt, button shirt, or t-shirt. However, tank tops/sleeveless shirts, and barefoot are not permitted. Shoes will always be required to enter the restaurant outlets for safety reasons. For ladies, a minimum of a knee-length summer or evening dress covering the breast area in a respectable manner Revealing, transparent dresses or high-cut, revealing shorts are not permitted. Shoes will always be required to enter the restaurant outlets for safety reasons. Although inside a holiday resort, it is advisable for all visitors to the island to still respect and observe the local norms, traditions, and culture of the local staff and their multi-cultural fellow guests and visitors.
Answer from OPR_Management
Thank you for your question. Most prefer to do the online route so that there is no need to stand in the cashier's queue due to separate queues for cashier and entry. Although the queue lines waiting times will depend on how many flights have landed at the same time, Sometimes up to four flights may have landed after each other, which can cause delays and a long queue. Depending if your transfer is booked via your booking agent or directly with the hotel, each company has its own policies on waiting times. Please check this with your booking consultant, or if you booked directly with the hotel, contact the hotel directly. In general, the drivers will wait until almost all passengers from the flight have exited the building and will start following up at the airport or with their office to check if there is any updates on the passengers in case they did not come through.
