If you are going to Zanzibar and can afford something a bit more than Sandies, spend a bit more. Sandies was just ok and a bit of a letdown. I am now surprised it's rated as a 4 star hotel. I'd recommend not doing all inclusive because it's about 80 USD a day and there are some great restaurants down the beach, and the food at Sandies is buffet food and it's busy and it was sometimes cold. It's just ok. The buffet staff were very nice, though. Rooms are basic - no robes, no fridge, no tea kettle, no TV, no internet, no duvet/comforter, nowhere to sit but the bed. The AC works very well which was a plus and the housekeeping staff was very good. Also, if you are looking to relax and sleep well don't stay here....they have live performances most nights which meant loud bumping music until late into the night. Wasn't really the beach vibe I was expecting. The beach is nice and it's a good location but if we ever return we will pay up to stay somewhere else.

The beach this resort is located on is one of the best on the island. The resort itself is nice but lacks intimacy due to the size of it. This hotel was populated mainly by certain crowds that go for the all-inclusive package and lay down their towels on a beach bed as a way of claiming it before breakfast. Pretty sad to see this kind of antics still being done but then again, this certain crowd is notorious for this kind of behavior! We didn’t go for the all-inclusive package, simply because we are not all-inclusive people and like to venture out instead of staying put in 1 place. The staff from the restaurant are sweet though. They really made our stay better! I call this place a money grabbing machine. As there was no TV in the room we had to buy the in-room internet…something their marketing team must have come up with, with dollar signs in their eyes Breakfast was simple and maybe my expectations for a 4-star resort were a bit too high, but we got fed up with the same breakfast choices during our 5 night stay. As we had a late night flight we requested what the cost would be for extending our check out by 6-7 more hours Reception gave us the runaround for 2 days straight. Telling us to come back later, or the next day or between such and such time. On day 3 they tried again and that is when I got fed up and wanted to know what the price is for a late checkout. Clear and simple. This is where they tried to shove something down our throats we didn’t want. And they kept saying, this is a fixed price and food and drinks are included. We don’t care about the all-inclusive formula and we’re not about to pay for it. But the reception kept insisting this is how it is and that there is no other way. When I asked to speak to the manager about this, he was not on-site and they had to call him. I waited until they did and was told, we can extend the check out with 6 hours only, for $100 Was pretty shell shocked when they names that price. My husband weary and wanting to have a proper rest and not wanting to fight about this, agreed to it. That must have been the easiest $100 they made! This is where we regret ending our vacation here instead of the previous place we were at, as that place did NOT charge us anything extra for a late checkout! Like I said, this place is a money grabbing machine! Beware!!!

The location of the Hotel is awesome and just located at the beachfront of Nungwi. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a pool and a private beach where you dont get offers from beach sale all day long. The food is okay but not very special and a little expensive.

After a very impressive Safari we stayed in this hotel for a couple of days. We had all inclusive and the breakfast and dinner they offered on a buffet was always very good. People were really friendly and helpful. They had some really impressive evening shows with really good artists. Chapeau. The only downside of Zanzibar (not related to the hotel!) was that there is quite a lot of waste in the streets. But as we stayed most of the time in the hotel that didn't matter too much. Again, the beach side and the buffets were hightlights!

Doesn’t deserve a 4 star rating. Paid a lot of money to stay here, only to get here and experience the following- 1- as soon as we walked into the room it was hot and stuffy, and there was a horrible damp smell that stayed throughout the 3 nights of our stay 2- after a long tiring journey we looked forward to a hot shower (a basic amenity for a 4-star hotel)- My husband had to get out of the shower 2 minutes in as the hot water ran out. 3- realised it was hot and stuffy because the AC was dripping water and not working. Called maintenance and overall took 1.5 hours to fix hot water and AC by which time it was 11.30pm 4- Finally got to bed to realise that there was no duvet and we were expected to sleep under a thin sheet? Asked for a duvet and got given travel blankets. 5- woke up to no kettle in the room- extra charge for this BASIC amenity which I have had in 3-star hotels in the past. Bit annoying for people like me who like to enjoy coffee on the balcony first thing in the morning before showering and going for breakfast. 6- no fridge in the room- extra charge for this, again, considering how much we had paid this was ridiculous. Didn’t even expect it stocked, just something to keep our water cool. 7- Wifi was weak in the resort and there was an extra charge for wi-fi in the room- I mean COME ON it’s 2021 and an expensive 4 star resort. Ridiculous!! (The extra charges weren’t expensive, I was just disappointed by the principle of charging for these things) 8- Sockets were completely different from everywhere else in Tanzania. We have stayed in 3 other accommodations in the country during our trip and have only ever used British 3-pin sockets. Being from the UK, didn’t bring a travel adaptor, and was told they didn’t have any at the hotel. Asked another member of staff and they miraculously managed to provide us with one. 9- manager made no effort to ask us how our stay was when we checked out, knowing full well we weren’t content after receiving our feedback form. Just to note- would be unfair not to list the good points. The location was brilliant, the grounds were nice and the breakfast was spot on. Pool was decent and staff were friendly too. HOWEVER, the downsides really did let it down and weren’t acceptable for the amount that we had paid to stay at sandies.
